Best Deceptive Poems

Premium Member Inevitable Withering

The truth was concealed with many branches. Countless
are the days I happily lingered in the comfort of your shade
before passionate winds revealed each of your limbs as too
weak to support natural, core growth. Your delusive roots
cannot grab substantial hold in earth while fertilized by
pretense’s charade. Only hollow echoes resound within your
skin of splintered bark and your shadows of nothingness grow
ever longer.

Under a warming sun, I joyously gave my heart in open palm
to you. At the time, I ignorantly embraced your breadth and
sum, for your apparent beauty preceded your tells of long
developed and craftily hidden inner rot, sure to disease all love
given in deep, steady, heartbreaking spurts. I can no longer
tarry beneath your deceptive branches and chose to depart with
no thought of ever returning, but I leave behind my tender pity to
witness your inevitable withering.

Sonnet Doubles:

First sonnet

Let Truth Burn Away Your Deceptive Cloak

Let truth burn away your deceptive cloak
lower vanity's shield, go have a smoke,
even if, a diamond, in love's gold crown
life shows greater rise, after falling down!

In vanity's false, self-proclaimed state
live many victims of their own dark hate,
darkness, its power holds so many keys
to locks and chains, stopping those who would flee!

Look inward to devilish chains of hate
beg mercy and tempt not, a darker fate,
seek the moment, to let kindness prevail
cross joyous oceans under, pure white sails!

Black cloud that holds, your happy life at bay
Is but selfish sin, you have given sway!

Robert J. Lindley, 11-20-2019
Sonnet, ( Living in this dark world, one should seek waiting light )

2nd sonnet

When Night Comes, Be Not Afraid Of Its Dark

When dawn sends rays of hope into your life
allow its golden glow, to wipe away strife
rise to give deep thanks and bow head to pray
seize its power to keep dark world at bay!

When new day, brings a stormy afternoon
believe brighter times will be coming soon
hitch your horse to wagon and give free reign
to trod to heart's true desire and remain!

When night comes, be not afraid of its dark
although new scenes may be scarily stark
have faith that again com'eth morn's first rays
blessings sent to all who sincerely prays!

Fear apathy that oft birth newfound woes
And world's black lies that cry-- anything goes!

Premium Member Broken mirrors crush me under deceptive appearances

Broken mirrors crush me under deceptive appearances,
mutilated wisdom whistles hesitantly,
the heron gropes, flying through fragile fantasies and follies lost in the penumbra
Penumbra that pulses,
words flow like a black river rolling shadows,
Shadows that gaze at me with empty eyes,
routine breaks my shattered steps,
meaning seeps away,
I wonder if the murmur is worth it
The gloomy murmur of the moment hides a strange beauty,
the sky cracks with lead weeping liquid silver,
bitter drops burn my skin,
wounds sprout like lost roots from trees fallen in silence
Silence that presses,
nostalgia is the ash singing of a extinguished fire,
the obsession with time pours a cold blind eternity,
eternity that crushes weak dreams,
the moment captures and absorbs everything like a sea chewing shadows
Shadows of lost ships melt into viscous waves,
echoes fall silent under the broken sky,
meaning whispers a concocted story,
Story that bites,
silent screams vibrate under my skin,
broken light rocks me gently
Gently I float through the mist, the walls breathe silence,
shadows dance on dusty and cracked floors,
Cracked like the soul,
the dry leaf glides on a nameless lost river,
melancholy caresses a thin veil between longing and oblivion
Oblivion that calls me,
the abyss growls a strange peace,
the black moon grins in the sleeping waters,
Sleeping waters whisper,
thoughts break like scattered threads,
the sky crushes the moment,
The moment crushes meaning, water runs far
Far flies the heron buzzing over the mist,
words merge with winding shadows,
routine gnaws at cold roots,
eternity sleeps under the dull shining slab,
the dull shining slab calls me in a dream

Premium Member Motionless Is Deceptive

The frost is in my toes,
                                         riming the up tilted boulders,
and twinkling the night sky,
                                                  like a cold breath blown
and whooshing clear off the plateau into the arms
of the universe.
                              Ah, standing still is spinning
all axis in step to be motion free except the heated
breath of the stars condensing and exploding.
Just diamonds or dewdrops,
                                                   a taste of eternity
swallowed.
                     Analyzed.
                                        Understood.
                                                                 And gone.
Me scrunching down, counting the meter
until full exposure.
                                  Listening for the mating cries
of crickets absent in the last dying down of autumn.
I hold onto my self, then.
                                               Great big hug and release.
Fall into the tumble of earth churned rock.
                                                                             No one
but me
to see the castaway burning through
to my side. Call them meteorite, spore, seed planted
for tomorrow traveling the empty spaces of time
wondering when, how, where the tick tick tick
of radiation
changes our bodies and our minds.
To be melted down, patted onto others, cataclysmic
blown and find a way to solidify, decorate
                                                                             and blaze.

Deceptive Sunshine

Sunshine's like warmth, an inviting glow
No jacket today let's play, let's go!!
Retreat, retreat it's cold!
Child looking outside bold
Coolness and shivers hear the wind blow.

Cocoa and warm fuzzes so much fun
The deceptive glow of the bright sun
Had an ill pill effect
On mom's total affect
No alone time today--it is done!

For John Moses Freeman's double limerick contest and all the mom's that have been
stuck inside with energetic children on bad weather days.

Deceptive Lover

I read your lover’s poetry,
And saw his deceptive way.
He manipulated your emotions,
Which makes me angry I must say.

He promised to come and meet you,
He promised you everlasting love.
Then told you about another,
Must have felt like a slap with an iron glove.

I feel your pain of love loss,
I hear you silent cries.
As you longed to be held,
Here he stands on your heart until it dies.

I know it will be hard to trust
I know you fear loves pain
My arms are open my sweet
In a hope you feel loves warmth again

Premium Member A Deceptive Poem

We deceive and we fib,
To fulfil a desire.
We tell ourselves
We aren’t really a liar.

We might be afraid
Of what others suspect,
Of being exposed
As mentally wrecked.

We might be afraid
Of being detected,
But every lie leaves
Us more disconnected.

From peace, trust , and friends
From people and repute.
Lies leave us aware
We are filling with guilt.

So don’t white lie, don’t fib.
Don’t deceive nor distort.
Since when all is done,
It’s to the mirror you report.

Premium Member DECEPTIVE BOSOM OF LIFE

This poem is a metaphor.

The crying tires,
the shattered glass,
it all happened,
so very fast.

His life it flashed,
before his eyes,
his life always swaddled,
in set ups and lies.

No direction,
for the good,
he just wanted a life,
that was nurturing and true.

The boys confused mind,
was searching for love,
It was something he,
could never find.

She always loved him,
so she claimed,
everyone else,
was always to blame.

His friends became,
his blood brother's,
they nurtured him,
like no others.

His voice screamed out,
God heard his pain,
in that moment,
he called on his name.

Now he sleeps,
bent on their whispers,
that God is good,
and his true love delivers.

After it's over,
and after it's done,
how she then claims,
her suffering son!

I'll run to you,
when I see you again,
and tell you that I love you,
like I did back then.

I'll never forget,
that cold winter's day,
you told me you wished,
with me you could stay.

Your spirit remains,
I've seen you visit,
I answered the door,
and blew you kisses.

Never Trust Deceptive Women

You think you're so good
But later I realize that you are the woman,
Who is cold, hatred, fury, Insensitive and Calloused?

You are sinfully proud and arrogant.
You think you are so perfect in everything,
But I know you accuse others falsely and ungratefully

I've trusted you but you've hurt me instead
And I don't know if I could believe you
or come near you again in my life.

You say you are Christian,
But contradicts with your words and behavior
You lack of fruit of spirit but you show signs of fruits of evil spirit.

I thought you had biblical knowledge
But later I realize that you pick and choose what you want to believe in the Bible
Behind back you are a troublemaker who enjoys hurting others
And causing much pain with your slimy vomiting mouth

I thought you had a spirit of god but dint know you had a spirit of evil
When you said you are Christian, I knew your heart was wicked
You would love to gossip as your tongue cannot be tamed
You slander, and tear down families who walk right
You are the woman who spreads misinformation, not having all the facts

By your careless and cruel words you destroy people's lives
You would love to injure and destroy good people's reputation
When you said I Love you Honey,
I know you have a lying tongue without genuine affection and love

When you say Bless your heart,
I know you curse at their back assassinating the character of another person.
You are verbally manipulative and corruptive to the point
That others around you can join you in abusive

You hate being around
So don't pretend that you miss us
Would you be called A Christian woman if everybody could know
That you have so much hatred for others.
Would you be called A Christian woman if everybody knew
your secret thoughts and feelings and everything you do?

You said you'd always be there during good and bad times
But you're nowhere to be found
You would just disappear when things got tough
You are truly unremorseful, heart less imperfect woman
Who attempt to justify sin and do not have Christ's Spirit in you at all

I'm sorry for the way you are!

Deceptive Snowflake

Soft lazy clouds push down on sky
Clinging to the heavens with solitary resolve
Heavy wet blankets the oblivious wind
Spreading an icy breath of discontent

One Deceptive Snowflake leads the exodus
Leaving the safeness of sky
Praising in dance new freedom
Giving tow to weary stitches of white

One and more descend into morn'
Following in blissful ignorance
A sea of look-a-likes
Crashing into a wall of color

Masquerading as equals
In denial of their uniqueness
Land in rest
On heels of the charge

Helpless in a frozen wall
Wishing only for thaw
When warmth melts betrayal
Into wells of forgiveness

Deceptive Calm

Tonight I'll talk too much and try to and complicate my friends.
Distant conversations, eye contact only now and then.
I try and drown myself in futile disbelief,
Only to be washed ashore by truth here on my computer screen.

The monsters hand held out, hung me by my own beliefs.
I held on tight, surviving by the skin of my teeth.
I raised my head up high and took a look into your eyes,
Searching for light I embarked into my own demise.

I gave you what you want in hopes that it was what you need
Tread the ground barefoot so all the blisters bleed.
The dog he's only learned to love and stay,
But he wants to get away, he needs to get away.

Now you know I've found a place to hide,
Got to run somewhere, leave you, girl you know I've tried.
I'm stuck reviewing the memories of our yesterday,
But I want to get away, I need to get away.

Walking the forest whispering to all silent trees.
I can feel the change, and relate to all falling leaves.
The world bears down and my legs won't seem to stand,
'Guess I'm just arrogant, too stupid to see I've done all that I can.

The Deceptive Entity

Materialistic things fulfill us temporarily...trifling with our emotions,
but their shallowness is discerned with bitterness:
when they can't save a life even with invoked mercy so tense...
as powerlessness turns into hopelessness;
can faith help us make the painless transaction into the eternal realm,
without fighting the menacing darkness bringing in a tremulous scream?

Separating ourselves from the deceptive entity
is the wisest thing humans can do, to avoid
the misleading fact that anguish doesn't exist,
or that regret isn't stronger than sympathy;
sorrow is a passable trouble, which makes us somber,
and somehow deepens the furrows on our sour faces!

Prophets, saints and holy persons thought deeply and understood this,
devoting their lives to a more rewarding vocation,
which demanded great sacrifices in return for salvation;
and today, in this era of sophistication and unbelief,
do we see any real ones, not the impostors who seek fame,
and proclaim their intrepid message to shelter themselves from blame?

Unscrupulous financiers, like Madoff, and bankers drain accounts with remorseless intent,
and when they are caught...they choose suicide over punishment;
is this the world you like to live in...with fraudulent individuals, who cause
tougher economic times to satisfy their greed at the expense of others?
Questions can become doubts that draw a negative response to any survey,
sacredness is valued more when we separate ourselves from the deceptive entity!

Appearances Are Deceptive

Now I can tell for sure,
That I know a lot about life.
I can tell you something about people
And this opinion is not strict at all.

You know, looks are pretty deceptive,
And cute faces hide the axe behind their backs.
Knowing this, I'm a little unhappy,
I won't be so naive anymore.

Man's eyes are like a pool,
There is an extreme depth of feeling hidden in them.
And hide the deception in them, I'll tell you simply,
Sometimes in our life it is impossible.

People judge without noticing their vices,
They point their finger and shake their tongue.
They never learned their lessons,
And they try to hit me with a word like a bayonet.

Looking at such people, you want to spit,
Hoping that their venom will go away with their saliva.
It's a pity that such people can't disappear,
But they can easily not be themselves.

I can't pretend to forgive everyone,
I still see the pretense around me.
It's a good thing I've only been a guest in their lives,
And broke the deceptive circle.

Stole from a random heart that couldn’t cope

Deceptive Save

The mossy green lump juts invitingly
An overhanging face of vertical formation
Moist rocks often kissed by hovering clouds
The steep trek is overwhelmingly dangerous

Fearlessly she set out for the daunting climb
A pull that attracts goal-driven people like her
Precariously hanging on its edge is the spur
The most sought after accolade of excellence

Ascending, she saw the ruthless scramble
The zealously ambitious trampling the weak
The ravenously cold-hearted crushing the strong
The wickedly nefarious slaking their thirst for blood

She saw it all, unscathed, undeterred by the milieus
She even fought to save the others, take them with her
That slowed her down, pulling everyone she can
Saving their necks from the gallows awaiting below

Quenching their thirst with the water she should drink
Feeding their hunger from her lone piece of bread
Treating their wounds despite her bleeding hands
Genuinely exultant that they all reached the summit

In the stillness at the zenith, the view is dazzling
The whispering wind, willing the tired body to sleep
Yet the cape must be worn, the ruler must be crowned
The frantic scuttle resumed as all dived for the goal

At the cliff’s edge, from the wet grass she slipped
Catching a protruding rock in time before the smash
Gripped by intense fear, not of losing but of dying
Beneath awaits the jagged valley of certain death

Looking up from the haze, she saw familiar faces
Gazing down at her; the then grateful, now unfeeling
Conspiring to ruin a rival just to reach their dream
The thankless lot twice deceitful than the enemy

Offering to reach seemingly to pull her from safety
Only to let go, fearful to equally perish from her grasp
Turning their pull into shove and into a mocking push
As she hangs for dear life, she realized her worth

She deserve to be alive more than these people
She should preserve herself for her own good
She now understands the world of the brutes
As gravity pulls, she falls, but she floats…
