Breathe Close To Me

Breathe close to me, let not your head droop
nor your face grimace in fierce grief,
for when I must leave, all will not leave with me,
I promise....

The memories we made together
will sit safe inside your mind's nest.
I'll leave the photos too: I can't take them with me,
so you'll have the proof we were young once,
both pretty and foolish, drawn together like
two bees put in a jar, buzzing round each other
until their disparate sound becomes a kind of music.

The photos and memories can take you back to all
the places we loved in Italy and France and that
windblown prehistoric Southern beach where
our hearts first linked in tandem as flesh merged
and the monk-like sun set slowly, silently, o'er
that endless and holy ocean....

Yet they lie, those photos, static remembrances of
our youth and middle years, for no canvas or brain
can ever seize our love, the living thing it is,
unseen but tangible as a hand, vulnerable yet
enduring past anger, illness and even death...
because time cannot diminish this Being
born between us....

Keep Me Close To Your Heart

keep me close to your heart ,while you're gone
because you are the only one
which my thoughts will recall

Its those lips that'I'll miss
and your early morning kiss
Its your hand in my own
and sweet whispers on the phone

My muse a dress of mourning
without you by my side
My eyes will seek no other
till you're back in my night.

Moon-glow I won't search for
but I will watch the stars
In hope you'll watch them with me
from a million miles afar

In hope you'll make a wish
the same wish that I do
To hold me tight in your arms
So I will dance with you.

Close To You

hanging so close on the clothesline
touching like lovers new
I yours and in silence yours mine
something we never do

Our thoughts might be along those lines
in dreams are more than close
Yet on the clothesline we are fine
touching and no one knows

When You Get Close To Me

When you get close to me
I feel life within my soul
No walls to climb
No bridges to cross
Our souls best friends
My heart synchronized with yours
Beating as one
Unguarded
I entrust it to you to keep safe

When you get close to me
My skin flushes
Expectant of your touch
My heart races in anticipation
A forty year old teenager
Dancing with you in the rain
Laughter and smiles aplenty
Kissing your tender lips meant only for me
Every second spent with you
A precious new memory made

When you get close to me
I feel pure love
Never felt this intensity before
So deep and so innocent
Our love is completely absolute
You are my life
My reason to breathe
I am here now and for always
I am here and I give you my all

The Universe Close To Me

I was not alone inside my loneliness
I had company, stars flowers and birds
But when you came in my life
I saw the universe close to me.

The Nuts Fall Close To the Tree

In the dimmed theater, the stage is set
not for a play though, yet a performance
one of baton, brass, notes, timpani
the performance I have waited for has come

As the stage lights grow brighter like sunlight
the theater grows dimmer yet, almost dark
but for the brilliance of the stage lights
then out you come with French Horn in hand

Along with thirty of forty other musicians
you take the stage, you are first chair
therefore you must be at your best tonight
and I know that you will be, you've practiced

The Conductor arrives on stage and announces
Welcome to the Black Hawk County Honor Band
I am sure you will be pleased with our selections
The Conductor takes the podium, opens his arms

With baton in hand he signals instruments ready
You raise your horn along with the others
ahhh the sound is fervent with excitement
the theater is alive with Parker in G flat

I can pick your horn from all the other instruments
you are playing the best you have ever played
you are caressing your horn like a fine jewel
and it sparkles in the light brilliance unimagined

Like your brother the writer of poetic beauty
you also have talent, musical talent like I
you now can hear a song and play it, by ear
like I you are learning the guitar, teaching yourself

The next song, Bach, such beauty to my ears
you and your fellow musicians have mastered the master
two years you have played, it sounds like many more
I film the whole concert, to preserve the moment

The concert ends with a Beethoven, in B how lovely
again you played masterfully, never missed a note
You even hit high G, and you thought you couldn't
well done son and it's all on tape, and in my memory

Red faced you leave the atrium, you worked so hard
I hug you and tell you how proud I am of you
all you want is a drink of water, you drank and
the redness is leaving your face, well done I hug you again

I wish your Brother could have been here to see and hear
he would have been proud too, and would have hugged you
You see, talent runs in our family, Me, you and Jared
all have it, So I guess it's in the gene pool, must be for you see

Close To Perfection

When I am around you I can feel the truth
You begin to speak and I can only focus on you
No pain no sorrow and no regrets, Just you
Your eyes are like the peaceful forest of nature
Your smile is the smile of an angel sent down to earth
Your voice is like the wind in a dream, so peaceful
And your kiss is the most beautiful thing that I have found
I cannot reach out to you anymore
You will never again let me see you in peace
It hurts to walk a step closer, as I see myself farther away
Do you ever notice me looking your way
You are the only one that I see...

Premium Member Close To Paradise

On a summer day I say to you,
let us go to the hills and see
the rising sun paint the snowy peaks gold,
listen to surging streams serenade to the stone.
To the blue hills we go,
the snow is gone, the streams are silent.

On a winter day I say to you,
let us go to the desert and see
the fluid mirage flicker with sunset shimmer,
listen to the wind whisper to the dunes.
To the still desert we go,
the mirage has vanished, the wind is silent.

On a autumn day I say to you,
let us go to the sea and see
the silver moon spread pearls on crest of waves,
listen to the music of the breakers on the beach.
To the azure sea we go,
the wave crests have fallen, the breakers are silent.

On a spring day I say to you,
let us go to the lake and see
the blooming trees shape scenic shadows on water,
listen to the gliding swans sing to the ripples.
To the crystal lake we go,
the trees are gone, the swans are silent.

On an intimate night I say to you,
I haven’t found out there what I seek.
The less I search for ecstasy away from you,
closer I am to paradise.
The less I look for bliss without you,
closer I am to fine.

Premium Member Too Close To The Edge

I walked the garden path holding all the intimate hands,
nurtured in the impermanent world the hope of durability
of me loved and belonged, and me owning and retaining.
Times changed, didn’t know why storm of dismay surged.

The garden got ravaged, the trodden flowers tarnished,
I now walk a lonely walk in the garden turned wasteland.
The crushed thoughts rise from debris in the void mind,
blankness drags dreams down to the edge of extinction.

With the submerging spent sun in my melancholic sky,
the twilight colors of my listless life slowly sink to oblivion,
night waits for my moon at the fringe of the hazy horizon
to ascend across the insurmountable span of the onyx rift.

The wisps of disappearing cloud tinged with fading hues
weave for me the fading tapestry of the departing day.
Behind the shroud of the nocturnal gloom my stars hide
beyond the edge of the immeasurable distressing gulf.

The dust of despair drizzles in darkened supine skyline
from the descending night enveloping the ebony future.
My mangled mind can’t recover the dwindled dreams,
lost in the unfathomable depth of the agonizing abyss.

In my splintered mind at the edge of hope I search,
discover the inner light showing the reality of reason
God has given me to subsist in this life so beautiful,
there’s no cause greater, no motive better than to live.

My fragile footprints fade in the threshold of ashen dusk,
as in lengthening shadow of obscurity I walk the last mile,
hoping to feel God’s grace in the rays of the new sunrise,
I stand too close to the edge of the unbridgeable chasm.

A Tribute To Frank L. Stanton's - Lazy Chap

Rising Early From My Bed, Close To Noon

I lay about and often just wonder why
others do not rest in the by and by
Any lazy day finds me right in tune
This lazy day sings this month of June

Rising early from my bed, close to noon
stagger into the kitchen none too soon
Eat a full plate of eggs and fried bacon
so true, I am a lazy man never fakin'

Afternoon resting under my favorite tree
I never bother work, work never bothers me
About supper time I wander back inside
if I am late to eat, wife will tan my hide

The meal finished, I turn on big screen set
easy day flowed so well but not done yet
A few beers the wife faithfully brings me
sets my sails and fills my soul with glee

Late night news tells me its time for bed
to lay me down and rest this weary head
Another day will come about ever so soon
I best be ready for that early rise at noon!

Robert J. Lindley, 02 09-2015

note: Frank L. Stanton my favorite poet, a simple man that wrote
beautiful and simple poetry. I have now started to write a few tributes
to his great poetry. My friend Peter Duggan's poem inspired me to
pay homage to my favorite poet before I pass on. Thank you Peter!

Come Close To God

Come Close to God!

You’ll find God when you seek
him with all of your heart...
Getting on your knees in prayer
is a good place to start!

 A double-minded man is
unstable in his ways.
He needs direction in
life when he prays.

Come close to God and he'll
Come close to you!
His word will be your guide
in all that you do.

Hunger for his righteousness...
and be filled!
Drawing close to Jesus is
 what God has willed!

He desires close fellowship!
More than words can say!
Come to him now...
With no more delay!

Trust him with all of your heart...
not your own understanding.
In everything...acknowledge him...
and heed his commanding!

Obey his command to serve with
body, soul and mind.
Everlasting peace and love,
 you’ll surely find!

His desire for you to know and
 love him is never ending.
Come to him now... please...
no more "pretending."

Reach out today...
And call on his name!
His love for you is eternal!
And will never change!

Allow him to bring joy to your
heart and true delight!
Please come to him now…
Why not tonight?

I'll keep you safe little girl, there's no need for that frown
Let's wrap you up in my towel, and dry your hair, dripping down

Come here, please don't cry, this is where you should be
The waves are too high. Here, ... sit close to me....

You shiver and shake,....but let us soak in the sun
Some castles we'll make, while the warmth holds your hand

Let's lie down in the sand, make an angel, with wings
Spread our arms, opened wide, and we'll hear lullabies

Let's get warm for awhile and put tears far away
Exchange them for smiles, until the end of the day

The moon is a pearl, for the sun must depart
Curl into my arms, and just stay close to my heart

When it's time to go home, and the stars say goodnight
I will tuck you in bed, and kiss your sweet head

When the new morning comes, we will come to the shore
And Mr. Sun will shine down, on the child he adores

If You Are Not Close To Me

If you are not close to me......

Can I start my day without you my love
Your absence in my house dries me out
I have become my own shadow in my house
and its makes me to draw in a ocean of sadness
Day after days and night after nights
my thirst of love brings me nothing but tears
I silently think you from a distance
and I feel your love throws at me with helpless
If the ocean were not in love
then the waves will have no strength
If the sun were not in love
then the lights will have no brightness
If the moon were not in love
then the nights will have no romance
If the wind were not in love
then the music will have no voice
So, my love if you were not close to me
my life will be in dreary.
