Best Buddy Poems
Love is a feeling not words
To think otherwise would be absurd
But I'll do my best to explain
Although I'm sure it'll be in vain
He's as soft as a brief spring shower
He's the color in all of my flowers
He's my sun on a rainy day
He keeps me healthy at walk and play
When I'm sad he makes me smile
When I'm mad at him, he pouts like a child
When I'm happy he wags his tail
He's the wind that pushes my sails
In the dark he's the eyes that guide me
When I'm sick he lays beside me
He's my comforter on lonely nights
Lays sleeping quietly when I write
He's smarter than most human beings
Cause he's sees with his heart what I'm feeling
I cook him the meals he eats
And I tickle his freckled feet
Sometimes when I take a shower
He gets in under his own power
Then dries off rubbing a towel
Just like I taught him how
He wipes his dirty feet by the door on a rug
After going outside in the mud
At night he gives me a kiss
Then informs me if anything is amiss
He's the inspiration for the poems I write
And I love him with all of my might
He's not a dog or a pet, he's my friend
You see, I wouldn't be me without him

For "Buddy"
My best buddy, a blessed, blue butterfly
Cute, cool and colorful… kind and creative
She’s got wild words with wings to fly
She’s a darling dame, I’m highly emotive.
She is married to Steve… no trespass
I only cherish her happy heart and arms.
She loves to share and care, her kind compass
I’m cocooned in the crest of her cheers and charms.
Tirzah, a terrific talent … too tough… to tame
She’s a witty and wealthy poet… no shame
She wields wholesome words… her great game
She is flying higher, so funny and fiery… her fame.
Horsemanship, her hobby… her pleasant passion
She’s got a mighty mare, ready for the English riding
Right up in her alley, the mare is earning pride and passion,
She’s great and gorgeous; worthy of western… winning.
Ross still rides his Harley, if the weather's good.
Can't get away much, like he used to.
Thursday morning breakfast with the airplane guys,
Talking farm prices;
what the dog's been doing.
He can't stay long; she can't be alone.
"She's been fading lately.
Sixty years together and she doesn't know
who I am sometimes."
But the dog does.
He'll leave early, be home to fix her breakfast
when she wakes. She'll not be appreciative.
Doesn't think about the cost anymore,
to bent, arthritic body parts.
Sometimes she won't eat what he prepares.
But the dog will.
Ross doesn't hear the banter;
he's staring through his oatmeal bowl,
counting fearful minutes.
"How's Buddy," I ask?
Ross comes slowly back, eyes refocused.
He smiles.
"I wouldn't take a thousand dollars for that dog."
I feel like I can move forward now
I have completed what I think is my legacy ?
I've staked my reputation on it
So if you want or feel the urge to comment
Please go ahead make my boring day
As to me even criticism I do not mind
At least you took the time
I will be fine I am in my prime
Buddy can you spare a dime
Or a second of your time
To fill in my comments line
I miss you already, Buddy.
You’ve been the apple of my eye.
When I think of life without you,
It makes me cry. It makes me cry.
Oh, so many moments we've shared together,
From romping mischief and tummy rubs to those pesky fleas;
And nothing’s better than my puppy’s kiss;
You always try your very best to please.
You always curl up with me on the bed.
You always meet me at the door.
You run and jump and bark with such excitement.
Yes, Buddy, I know you couldn’t love me more.
And when all others fail me, Buddy,
My best friend is always there.
Through my very worst of times,
Your eyes and your attention said, “I care”.
Five to seven years for every one of mine
Is so little time... it’s hardly fair.
It must be God’s way of saying,
“Love them now… and well.
There’s precious little time to spare”.
But, if I should go before you, Buddy,
Love your new master without reserve;
And they will love you as you love them.
It’s what a great pup like you deserves.
I miss you already, Buddy.
You’ve been the apple of my eye.
"Buddy Breathing"
Ten leagues below
the bed of the ocean in my heart,
strange creatures exist,
they guard the gate
of all things that
have past
the sound of their existence
is strange music for strange creatures,
words are not written, nor are they spoken,
mute hearts bleeding and eyes wide open
masks are worn down here, like soft harlequins
glistening sharp diamonds
they carry forgotten meanings in ever resilient silence,
the trick in the eyes is not to open;
we somehow breathe down here
it’s called buddy breathing.
we try to think of the poetry
in life, remembering the bliss
in our purposeful being,
the oxygen bubbles God bless,
sometimes rise to the surface;
we like to think we are all friends;
some immortalise us
while we die from the bends.
we prayer for miracles
like the 2nd coming
sweet kisses
sharks teeth
colophons
and unblessed
un-nun-like
sisters

"Swiftly walk over the western wave,
Spirit of Night!
Out of the misty eastern cave
Where, all the long and lone daylight,
Thou wovest dreams of joy and fear,
Which make thee terrible and dear, —
Swift be thy flight!"
(Percy Bysshe Shelley)

"I’m blowing further away
This storm is gaining force
Now it’s tripping the waves
How can I test this water
The stars have their say
I shouldn’t admit this but
My heart starts to stray
I’ve tasted white light
Willows weeping
I’ve tasted love songs
Angels sleeping
Fever's breaking
Wild waves
Leaves are raking
I pray to the Saint of all that’s lost
And in the finding curse uncrossed
Wait for the sun to come undone
Signalling me
Out to sea
I’ve tasted Saturn
Seagulls screaming
I’ve tasted shotguns
Apostles dreaming
Fever's breaking
Wild waves
Legs are shaking
I pray to the Saint of all that’s lost
And in the finding curse uncrossed
Wait for the sun to come undone
Signalling me
Out to sea
Out to sea"
(Elysian Fields, "Out to Sea")
Here i am
watching you from across the
room,
wishing i could sit next to you.
Durring the day
I wish i could take
your hand in mine,
and talk to you about nothing.
I loved the times we had before,
I just hope we can have more.
Passing notes,
I knew it was just to talk
but also to get to
stand beside me and speak the
truth.
I heard it from your friends,
their comments and laughs,
but i never heard it from you.
....Did you love me, like I loved
you?

You’re the world’s worst hiking buddy
How did we end up so muddy
Not even sure we can scrub it!
How would I know
Can’t stick my hand in that hole
I thought you had the first aid kit
Yea I dragged a little back
Put too much in my pack
Still we came here to walk as a team
So I wore the wrong socks
Got my foot stuck in the marsh
I figured you knew a way through the stream
I got some cool pictures
Don’t forget to text me those few vintage
I didn’t have time to give my phone a full charge
What else is there to talk about
We’re in the woods isn’t that where Bigfoot’s at
You know they say he still runs at large
I know I saw a cell tower
Had to call my mom on the hour
I can’t believe you left me behind!
I’d be here till I’m old
If it wasn’t for that dog
For all that has happened I’ll whine, humph
So where are we going next weekend?
He sought all the mystery
As well as the blistery
With some of the grim
And the not-so-prim
In the city's ironic history
A story he would perceive
Seldom easy to believe
But always would back up
What came from the Cup
Of Cornucopia he would weave
He would oft-times humor
An unconfirmed rumor
Then blow it away
When he would say
A quip of his humor
She came home with her shoes so muddy
Her excuse was she went to study,
'T was the fourth time that week
Ma decided to peek,
Caught pants-down with her study buddy.
once an odd fellow named lee
liked to converse with a bee
but once in a store
it caused an uproar
sitting to chat on his knee.
Real Buddy
The spiritual zeal within,
Is gone, when earthly duress set in
Life becomes dull and messy,
And your heart turns poignant.
Whenever you feel blue,
And nobody is there for you
Just call upon our Redeemer
His love is beyond compare!
God will mend your brokenness;
He’ll renew your strength,
He stays with you, forever
And He makes you feel better.
Little black drummer
Hiding in the corner,
Playing his little drum
All the night long.
It's sounding kind of hazy;
I think I am going crazy
From listening to the rhythm
Of his little drum song.
Today I found my long lost Pet Rock
You know, the one from the 70's
I was sure years ago I'd lost him for good
Go ahead, ask if I'm happy
I found him on the side of the road
Just relaxing at doing nothing
I guess without me in his life
He was major bored or something
I picked him up and we both hugged
It was a very emotional moment
I know what your thinking to yourself
Kinda brings a tear to your eye now don't it
After exchanging the usual pleasantries
I placed him in a kerchief of silken lining
If I didn't tell you I skipped all the way home
You know I would be lying
Getting back to the house all tuckered out
We went early to bed
I fluffed a pillow up just enough
So Buddy could lay his weary head
I can't tell you how good it feels right now
To have my Pet Rock back home with me
At last my life can get back into
A mode of normalcy
Wait....You didn't honestly think I would end it here did you?
When we woke up early the next morning
I poured Buddy a bowl Fruity Pebbles
He looked at me rather strangely
As if questioning, what do you think I'm some sort of cannibal?
After that little speed bump in our relationship
To get our friendship back on track
I suggested we go somewhere special
Buddy suggested we take a nap
I'd forgotten after all these years
How much he liked to lay around
Guess nothing much has changed
On this, his side of Gravel town
Buddy and I do everything together
My Love for this rock, can't get out of my head
Where my life was once filled with immeasurable sadness
Now overflows with loads of joy instead
That is until the day we went to the park
And he wanted to skip across the lake
At that point I realize
He and I might have made a grave mistake...
My Best Buddy
My best buddy is also my best friend,
Our friendship is one without end.
If help is something you might need,
My best buddy is there at full speed.
Don’t try to measure him because he is small,
His love of God and his faith make him ten feet tall.
We’ve had hard times throughout the years,
He is always there with his laughter and his cheers.
When you see him walking down the street,
A stranger, out there, he will never meet.
Please stick out you hand and say hello,
My best buddy can cure all your woes.
He helps me anytime, day or night,
If there is trouble he comes to make it right.
I ask you; try to understand something about this man,
His being my best buddy is part of God’s plan.
