Best Bird On The Wing Poems

Premium Member Silence and Happiness

It snowed lightly last night.
I venture into the woods,
hear the silence reigning supreme.
Mutely a light breeze weaved its way
amongst the moss-covered trunks,
the high branches swinging serenely,
the verdant leaves of evergreen trees.

Occasionally a snowflake fluttered down
onto the white path that winded its way
across the solitary forest.
I felt peace in silence
despite the cold that griped
my arthritic old bones.
A few tears of happiness bleared from my sight.
The mist lifted like a silken veil,
all around shone in utter splendor:
a masterpiece of an ethereal painting
of some great master of olden times.

I felt your presence everywhere, O Lord,
I was exhilarated as a bird on the wing,
elated and consoled in utter harmony
with nature's song of praise,
a heavenly sigh to its Creator.

Premium Member Dancing On the Wind

"In the absence of complication,
trials and tribulations become distant memories.
Above sapphire skies delight sanguine eyes -
inspiring forthcoming musings of the mind."

 Simplicity flows in poetic verse
 weaving the flight of butterflies
 dancing on the wind,
as ink flows on the page

 No webs of deceit
 to entangle these musings
 as silken threads of beauty
 cling to the scented rose

 And the azure sky
 presents endless possibilities
as a bird on the wing
 floats past a wispy cloud.

Premium Member Happiness

Happiness is the first rain that breaks the drought,
Seeing the joyful faces on farmers all about.
Happiness is a young child soaring high on a swing,
Feeling as free as a bird on the wing.
Happiness is a clean report of health from the medical test,
Knowing the old ticker is good, makes me feel my best.
Happiness is knowing the whole family is home snug and warm,
When thunder, lightning, hale and wind rage in the storm.
Happiness is that wagging tail, whimpers saying glad you’re home,
The slobbery toy he brings to encourage you never to roam.
Happiness is that first burst of soothing warm water in the shower,
On a freezing cold winter’s day it gives you such power.
Happiness is the first white flowers of Jasmine telling me its spring,
The beautiful perfume filling the air those tiny flowers bring.
Happiness is sitting at the end of the day with a good job done,
Just relaxing with him watching the setting of the sun.
Happiness is that tight hug at the airport that lasts for so very long,
So glad to see each other, because our love is so strong.
Happiness is my prayer of thanks at the end of the day and into the night,
Thanking our lord for keeping them safe and allowing all to go right.

Premium Member Swan Lake

With laces tied, she is up and away
With the glint of the moon on her steel blades
The clink of metal as she leaves the ice
Pirouette of glee as her soul takes flight

Swirling and twirling, a bird on the wing
With her scarlet skirt flared out in a ring
Without any strings, she flies like a kite
A vision of grace on a windless night

Carving her masterpiece there on the lake
Gaining more power with each breath she takes
Joy beneath heaven on a starry night
In a world of white drenched in golden light

A girl with a dream and a pair of skates
Swan in a ballet on a frozen lake.

Memories

A lily in the pond
A mountain beyond;
A blue sky in spring
A bird on the wing.
The rippling call
Of a waterfall;
A soft spring rain
A robin's refrain.
Fields full of flowers
Spending long hours
With arms around you
Speak words not a few.
Such little things
To remember for years;
The songs we sing
Memories with tears.

Gershon Wonders

I've always been good with a sling
And can hit a bird on the wing
But Dave hit a giant
Who was not complaint
And for that, they made him a king?

Natural Interjections

Buzz! said the bee on
the bloom; Hoot! said the owl in
the tree; Chirp! said the
bird on the wing; Thank you, God!
I witnessed all these grand things.

Premium Member On the Road From Banff To Buckie

I met a spicy young lassie
on the road from Banff to Buckie
Her eyes were full of sparkle.
I thought I might get lucky.
Polite chit chat over cola.
With a nip of apricot brandy.
Her demeanor and wit quite trendy
yet, keeping composure handy.

The short of my story is this.
I married that lass in the spring.
Her eyes are still full of sparkle.
No longer a bird on the wing.
We met between Banff and Buckie.
Now an old married lady in Leith,
as Edinburgh casts its shadow,
her tenure is framed in gold leaf.

Premium Member Summer Day

To the beach, the sand , the waves
A summer day with no sense of hurry
Feet in the surf and the cry of the gull
Appreciating a day without worry...

Beyond the blue horizon such mystery
Known to the soaring bird on the wing
With a boat and dream I'd sail away
To look for the answers to many a thing.....

Just one day, in a book of singular days
A memory now, that day at the shore
But the essence of wind and the wave
With me now, asking for nothing more....

This Lone Bird

This lone bird
flying alone,
in grey overcast,
seems so absurd

Dipping and swooping,
crazy circles,it makes
Such joy ,hard to fake,
inner whooping

For there is no season,
when to fly,
no reason,
not to try

Lone bird,
so high,
I wonder why?

Wings of grey,
match the cloud
Shades of grey at play,
mood unbowed

There is joy in flight,
instinctively right.
Bird on the wing,
is better than ground
for its heart does sing
Hear it's sound
all around

This heaving mass of air,
nature's invisible stair
The will to try
The will to fly

Lone bird,
is not absurd
Solo flight,
it's chief delight

Away from the crowd,
the cackles far too loud.
Must concentrate,
on invisible stair,
to climb to the cloud

It is fate,
for lone bird to meet,
high up on nature's seat
Leisurely pace,
murmur of wind on face

Billowy clouds,
away from the crowds.
Far in to the grey,
lone bird at play

Premium Member Wrapped In Finely Spun Silk

Within thou secret heart I dared to peek,
but entry to thee twas not meant to be.
Searching for answers that doth I do seek
No avail, thy heart locked and I no key.

I'd oft pondered what in thee would I find.
Thy love for me, wrapped in finely spun silk?
I pray no tidings of a feckless mind.
Some hindreth fault of your heritage ilk.

If only my treasure you wouldst plunder,
In my virgin garden, you shall n'ere pluck
If thee shall not put my heart asunder
This maid shall be the doe and you her buck.

O! Sweet life, hurry forth thy hands of time.
Shouldst death sing to thee from bird on the wing,
Captured then I shall n'ere put word to rhyme
Tis death shall rob my voice of words to sing.

Wrapped in finely spun silk, love hath no fear
In my verse, we shall e're be young, my dear.

Love's Wheel

Love’s Wheel

Nothing could compare to how you make me feel
Would that in this envelope were
My body, my heart and soul
In the distance I see your face and hold your hand

I hope-
I know you understand after a while
I see you don’t back down
You have taken a stand despite

Three choices given on love’s wheel

To help the blind to see
More time on the fruited plains,
And a bird on the wing,

That was me

My Heart and I - Dreams Contest

Like a bird on the wing I was homeless
Not a perch to call my own
Always searching for somewhere, something
my song was so dull and forlorn
I was taken to a nest i was promised
I would find love and friendship too
can't believe the joy that overtook me
that moment when I found you

I felt love the moment I met you
The friendly feeling you sent out to me
introduced me to the friends you knew
I felt at home immediately

I love you so
Don't ever say goodbye

You grew interested in my words
Comments from all my new friends
feel so ready and relaxed its so absurd
a day without you, I can't comprehend

I would miss you so
My heart would die

You are more than a part of my life
Don't ever say goodbye
Please never close your doors to me
My heart would die.

I love you so.
I love you....my poetry pals.

Rain

RAIN

Misty rain is falling 'round
Upon my head, a dewy crown

I watch the rain bounce from the grass
It's roots devour the liquid mass

A soft breeze flows through yonder trees
I imagine all the things it sees

Like a bird on the wing
It gets to see most everything

The thunder roars it's warning voice
I know that I must make a choice

Do I hide from the pouring rain
Or let it wash away my pain

I came out here alone today
To send my demons off to play

So I think I'll stand my ground
While the rain is falling 'round.
