Best Barking Poems
My slumber knows no measure...
There be no sleep for me.
The hounds are barking through the night
For immortality.
I toss them a leg of hubris
And a banal cliche for slight effect.
But their hunger goes unsated...
I lay waste my self-respect.
A few platitudes and twaddle
Are quickly gobbled by the beasts.
I make an honest effort at contrition
To give aid to my relief.
But my words of self-castration
Seem to energize the hounds.
I further try to appease and quantify...
But I'm losing precious ground.
I prostrate a harried confession.
My delusive sins are now a flood.
The wolf stands menacingly astride my door...
The beast has tasted blood.
Again... I apologize now threefold times
Using paper, pad and quill.
But it matters not to feed the beasts...
The hounds are barking still.

Sue’s puppy is called Tricky Woo
She’s upset when it does a pooh
There’s pee up the wall
And poop in the hall
She always finding doggy dooh
I suggested she buys a grit tray
And takes Tricky a walk every day
He can play in the park
Do its poop, have a bark
But someone should take Tricky away!
A puppy’s not right for her flat
Perhaps she should have got a cat
Not a hulking huge hound
From the local dog pound
Now why didn’t Sue think of that!

This oak tree and me, we’re made of the same stuff.. Carl Sagan
why lean on my
unmoving breast?
breathe my rest...
climb my milieu...
hull me out
an adventure.
soar amidst
the forest of my branches.
i’ve squirmed as you shimmy up
and scream to be rescued.
i’ve dreaded the hearted-blade
score and singe in my bark.
you’ve left your bloody initials,
therefore, you’ve enslaved
yourSELF TO ME
in thorns and lichens.
i wonder when you kiss
off this puppy love
will you restore my health
or leave the scars of the past?
i wait eternally for your return
with roots sopping tears of regret.
perhaps your progeny approaches -
the wind whispers such vespers to me.
i ache ancient rings of arthritis...
crows nibble nebulously i fear...
in the end’s gratitude for sultry sun
and merciful cups of rain.
goodbye my dear. . .
the lightning strikes

I stand awkward and unsure
So different from the rest
Unaccepted and rifled with ridicule
Uncomfortable yet hoping to conform
A fate that feels so wrong
I struggle to fight the urge without intent
A path I forever lament
My tribe will love me if only I can find
Those common attributes they say will forever bind
Yet, there is a different path I pursue
Bold and true to myself I burst through
Realize my destiny and prove to be great
Never looking back but only within
Being different without fear for its my fate
There are no barking birds
Unless I choose to be first
I so choose
To be a lone barking bird
My Mix-Breed "Extra Fluffy"
happy as can be
Entered in the "Dog-Gone" trials
Just one of eighty-three
Some as big as horses
some as long as trains
Some so smart they spoke to you
You'd think they had our brains
The judges they were different though
The scoring one two three
For each performing act they did
they all received a "three"
Pretty soon they narrowed it down
then narrowed it down some more
Some dogs were none too happy now
they didn't even score
Terriers didn't stand a chance
Dalmatians faired the same
When a pure bred Poodle took the gold
the Shepherd went insane
How could they do this to these dogs?
was it cause they aren't the same
The judges? Mostly poodle breeds
you think they were to blame?.....
Barking dogs and screaming kids
Can drive a person to drink
There's nothing quite so disconcerting
Worse than loud music methinks
Hard to control a barking dog
They'll bite you and rip off your leg
Beating kiddies is wee bit extreme
But it's fun watching them beg
Go ahead whomp your child
As long as you don't leave marks
Strangling is definitely illegal though
Welts are sometimes quite dark
Betcha I'm gonna hear 'bout this
'Bout abusing li'l kids and all
Really they're only minor injuries
It's a blast to hear 'em bawl!
Just kidding!!!

The Barking Dog
By Stanley Russell Harris
The new mad author
& A Poetry Soup honourably mentioned poet
When I was in the army, I trained war dogs you know.
And when I had one out with me, pure happiness did show.
Yet when we both were working, we worked as a team.
My life was in my dog detecting what he was trained to gleam.
One growl from him was enough, to alert me something was not right.
I knew if I ignored him, I might soon die that’s right.
That’s why I don’t like your dog crying, its plaintiff bark you see.
As it means something is wrong, with it, if not with me.
I’d like to take the law into my hands, but that I cannot do!
So I must just listen to your dog crying a message I know, pity you don’t do!
NB. As I lay in my sick bed with my man cold, I can hear a plaintiff cry of a large dog nearby. I cannot see it, I know not of its welfare. I only hear its plaintiff cry. And as my voice is now fading with this man cold I’ve got. I hope the owner of that dog reads this and knows he is a clot.
Form:
Irrational waves,
An expanse of flowing wails,
Ripples woof aloud.
I'm so annoyed with barking dogs.
Why don't the owners shut them up?
(Masters must have swapped brains for logs.)
I'm so annoyed with barking dogs.
They sound loud, even in this fog...
It's a shame that dogs don't stay pups...
I'm so annoyed with barking dogs.
Why don't the owners shut them up?

Beyond the din of vexatious dogs that bark,
The winds of change blow ominously.
Foreboding signs that upon us make their mark
Bring unease and much anxiety.
There is nothing we can do in this dire state
But pray someone stops our dark, impending fate.
In history's pages are precious lessons
From which shortsighted leaders may learn,
Choose when to keep our peace and when to make war,
For lives lost, we can never return.

We've hit a bump;
the melodies and notes that
resemble the feelings of our love
hang in the air broken,
and the silence looms over us
like fog in a cemetery.
It's easier to remember the
difference in all equations than
what reoccurs;
and so our hound dogs,
like our past fights
keep us up at night with eh
passing thoughts of
"should I be here?" and
"Is it worth it?"
And so we explain our case;
the lawyers inside us that
never wish to lose a fight,
all lawyers are guilty.
There never will be a time,
when two songs of
different tempos will make a
melody.
Let's start humming the same tune,
and break the broken desires.
