Seasons

With a chill still in the wind, spring arrives
Clutching her white coat that slowly melts
In Sun's warmth, coaxing blossom's birth.

Humidity heavy with the scent of Jasmine
Announces summer's steamy footsteps
As ripe strawberries share sweet savors.

A harvest moon greets lovely autumn, smiling,
When her frosty breath changes verdant leaves
To glorious hues, drifting down, dancing to death.

When winter white fleeces her snowy shawl,
Maple trees share syrup from their vitreous veins.
Hearth's smoke rises above naked trees at rest.

Joseph
and Mary
traveled on a

donkey
to give birth
in Bethlehem,

but there
was no room
in the town's inn

In the
silence of
the starry night,

born in
a manger
the dear Savior

Angel
announces
to the shepherds:

"Today
nearby is
born a baby

God's son
the Savior,
Jesus the Lord

Angels
sing: "Glory

peace to His

Shepherds
came to the

to the new

Magi
came adored
offered Him gifts

A Tale of The Last Dance

It was the last dance ever
                                      Orders from the Kingdom Come
The one with the most golden crown
                                      A dancing queen announces
The last dance will be thrown
For all who want a chance
At the grandest gala ever known
                                      The kind that never ends
They’ll wear tap shoes and dance
                                      Hardwood floors stomped on
                                      By flamenco’s fiery trends
                                      To the rhythmic guitar
                                      Bollywood prancers sing along
                                      To music of the sitar
                                      Ballerina’s leggy, their silhouettes long
Pivoting and pirouettes in all ten dens
                                      Symbols clicking in their hands
                                      Belly dancers do back bends
                                      Glittered shiny dresses twirl
                                      Day to night transcends
                                      The sky angels are prancing
We need not have any fears
                                      Feathery, white-pearled wings dancing
                                      A grand illusion it appears
When in heaven we are two
You’ll play the flute of love
                                      My arms above my head
                                      Cries of happy tears
If it were the last dance
I’d want to dance it with you

The Ice Cream Truck

the ice cream truck

do you remember in fourth grade when it was the end of the school year?
kids running around in class, volunteer parents planning for field day events, teachers grading tests.
a year's worth of crafts and colorful displays filled the walls like wallpaper.
you can hear singing from the kids in room 4b, ms. mcdonald's class.

the weather outside was a balmy 80 on this june day.
text books, paint brushes, and the obligatory pre-chewed bubble gum filled the desk cavity.
the assistant principle announces something inaudible on the speaker system.
and we are fast approaching the anticipated summer break.

summer. that's when spring lovers finally kiss and the butterflies leave their cocoon.
birds singing and the flowers are saturated with their red, blue, and pink hues.
the last day of school is finally here and the children ride the bus for the last time.
vacations. swimming pools. ocean city. the smell of hot dogs, grass and humidity.

jersey summers are hot. really hot where i grew up. you sweat just by looking out the window.

then one day, the familiar sound of circus-like music faintly approaches town.
louder and louder until everyone knows its the ice cream truck turning the street corner.
the famous mr. softee, or good humor truck, or some local self employed bearded man.
whatever it was, ice cream in all kinds, flavors, colors, and shapes was 25 yards and 25 cents away.

the music kept playing as children seemingly sprayed out of their homes in rapid succession.
a gathering soon followed with parents and children standing all against that delicious truck.
chocolate. peanut butter. vanilla. strawberry. cookies and cream. cookie dough.
sandwiches. bowls. cones. smoothies. sundays. sprinkles. nuts. oh so yummy!

i miss that ice cream truck. i miss those days...

...and i miss you just as much.

The Class Guide

Me....,
a shy ..,
 and
bashful guy
always kept me.,
confined to last bench..
down my head,
huddled heart ,
blenched my breathes and
arms always clenched..

Staring with a thief eye
to each one
around me
but confrontation
was not my forte .,
this fragility always
kept me away
from my very interest
and invariably
was a thwart ..

New day in the class,
New teachers and
Classmates too.,
but for me
each day was new
and each one., who?

Newly painted class
curtained each side .,
The Teacher announces
our new class guide...

In actual fact
I wasn't a beauty gaper .,
but this time
she forced me too sharper...
hardly I lavished my time
in any admiration..,
but this would give,
drive to my contemplation..,
breaking the ice to her
difficult and caffeine beauty
eyes were clear and watered ,
lips were glossy and frooty..

Tallest and
her collar in the same way.,
I stared alot but
kept her eye away..
walk like breeze
silent and cool
smile like blooming lily.,
none of her company
can stand by her
she was the perfect dilly..

Crowd would stop
while she starts
mostly buring in vex.,
she wants pin drop silence
 in the class .,otherwise,
 bitter pills to suspects..

The same rain
I got whole year .,
Whole year
I got ,
teacher will start ,
we all will set ,
and I will get lost .,
The last day of
this beautiful phase
I was loosing carelessly.,
No courage,
No rescue ,
The day cutting readily ..

God miracle or
some boon ,
when she came ,
in her black shoon..,
shrinking and shy
asked me a favour.,
Reaching to the seventh heaven
I started quiver..

Yea....Yea ....
I did it
and then asked my will...

Very courageous.,
honestly it was
to utter such word.,
but......,I knew
It was the
last chance
and never again for
me.....,
such a coward..

So....I did
did it fast.
listening it....,
she got locked.
'No Words'
 she said
but I .....,
I did it.
did it.
Yea...,
I do.

                                                                                                by-Shagun

Premium Member The Cougar

Lady liberty, hold your flame light high,
Beware the path thy cross, in the wild undiscovered
Wilderness of the U.S.A.
For it is here a fierce native predator,
Stalks the rocky ranges bad lands,
Behold the American mountain lion.
Known as the cougar.
Nature's solitary soldier, walks with
Silences stealth and predatory cunning.
Beneath the thickets underbrush,
The beast does savor, upon his preys weakness,
And relishes the hunt of engagement.
Secretive creature, an apex hunter,
Wearily observing, his natural habitats
Surroundings, this king
Survives by tooth and claw alone.
Once hunted to the brink of extinction,
At the hands of mankind, and greed's bounty.
Nobility's instinctual majesty, has reclaimed
His mighty throne, on the cliff tops high.
The cougar, represents a come backs promise,
We as American's shall leave none of our
Own behind, has recovered and announces
His arrival with a mighty roar.
In the heights forbidden realm, the big horn sheep,
Smacks his antlers against his reveling foe,
It's soundings echo is heard for miles,
Abreast the whitening fallen snow,
But the great feline lord, has now returned,
To his ancestral territory, a shadow flash,
Of golden brown, a royal phantom to
The art of war, clashing with basic instincts
Desire to survive.
Behold the pride stands tall, upon the
Red bands of freedom, nay liberation’s
Symbol soars above the lion's den,
Beneath the night's sky shines with
Old glory's stars hanging in beauty's favor,
We honor him, this the great American lion,
The Cougar.

Premium Member Outside Looking In

The more mature ladies sit aside
Engrossed in conversing
Contented in perusing dance
Some their feet rehearsing

Such a seat up high with a view
Alone upon the hill
Longing once again to dance
And tap out those fancy rills

In a plain Calico day dress,
A coat once rich now worn
Dreaming of spring, as peach dress swings
A spring day newly born

Different shades of springs clear blue sky
White apple blossom gown
Spring green decorations line hall
Peach blossom dress the crown

Off in the distance, the sound of the train
The whistle announces
It has stopped here in this young town
From train master bounces

There's a package over his shoulder
Sealed in a fancy bag
He mounts his horse that is waiting
Behind he did not lag

The lady that sits high on hill
In a gazebo hoping
Unaware that riders from town
Approach as she's coping

He tells her of observations
Of her strong courage
In the bag he brought a gown
One that matched her virtue

The belle of the cotillon ball
Dressed in emeral green
A velvet dress made just for her
One fit for a great queen

Premium Member A Siren's Serenade

The sun is slowly fading and it’s almost twilight time.
The ocean’s strong vibration beckons me to rise from deep.
The ship announces its approach, its horn an ocean chime.
Waking me from slumber in the ocean where I sleep.

I move with lightning speed emerging quickly to the top.
The sailors all come out to hear my haunting siren’s song.
I swim around the vessel as it slows and then it stops.
From that time, and forever, to me they all belong.

My lovely iridescent tail will sparkle in the night.
I serenade them with my tune while diving in and out.
A potpourri of colors that will dazzle and delight.
Before too long they will be lost inside my spell, no doubt.

I’ll circle all around the ship and mesmerize each one.
Then slowly hypnotize each man until the morning sun.

The Glow of Dawn's Horizon

Daybreak usually greets me when it ascends each day.
Yawning, I drowsily rise from the comfort of my bed
as the horizon glows with colors in resplendent array.

Dawn announces, "The warmth of Ra is on its way!"
Soon, over land and sea, aureate beams will spread.
Daybreak usually greets me when it ascends each day.

Sunrise shines on foxes in meadows where they play,
illuminating their coppery coats of orange and red
as the horizon glows with colors in resplendent array.

In shallows, sunlight dances with waves as they spray,
creating prisms in nuanced tones of variegated thread.
Daybreak usually greets me when it ascends each day.

It does not matter where I wander or aimlessly stray.
Mornings are idyllic once somber darkness is shed
as the horizon glows with colors in resplendent array.

How I'd dread a cause for the rooster's crowing delay.
What a folly if the moon continued her reign instead.
Daybreak usually greets me when it ascends each day,
as the horizon glows with colors in resplendent array.

Premium Member Her Name Is Winter

She rides into town with a storm as her steed
With clicking ice spurs, and rattling reins
With somber delivery and the bleak look of gloom
Bursting with pride as the old year must end

She shoves her way into the house out of spite
A dooms-day gray cloud, who brings her own blight
Leaving a trail of footprints and mud
Building a nest out of leftover crumbs

Flapping her wings and spinning the clock
Strutting her youth at the stroke of midnight
She stalks on wet feet, with some snow on her boots
She shouts out the news that your taxes are due
No care in the world that she makes us feel blue!

Her windows are dark, and her doorway is bare
She holds a firm grip, till the end of her stay
Yet, slowly and surely, against good advice
Intrudes like a flood, as she watches creeks rise

At last comes the sun, to shoo her away
To thaws her cold grip, and her frown of surprise
With remorse, she announces... it's time for goodbye!

Premium Member Our Friend, the Sun

When morning comes and grass is dewed,
one looks beyond the window's view
The crimson sky, announces you
You spread a warmth, with revelry,
You take our breaths, you awe the eyes
Old friend, possessor of the sky,
you tint each cloud while passing by
O' morning friend, O' rising sun…You never fail to come !

Over the rooftops, over my lawn, over the crest of early dawn

Warming,………greeting,…………….skimming along…….

You come each day, to blush my face, your gentle fingers know the way
From morning’s path, long past noon, from east to west, a well worn task
You race across the time and space, an ancient clock, while keeping pace

And as the twilight comes too soon, you blaze a trail with redder hues
And ‘tho I know how soon you’ll go… I wonder why I miss you so…?

My brilliant friend, O' setting sun, it’s time to wave a sad farewell
I wonder why, when fading dim, you play for me, a sadder song?

Yet, still I’m here, in silent awe, to watch you burn away

Slowly………fading………………………………………gone

Flashback To Present

The continuous memories scattered inside my mind
All the laughter and loving scenes are left behind
Leaving a life of bad possibilities where I came from
Never getting a chance to show how I overcome

Although it was bad I left something more important
A mother’s smile a little brother and my childhood
The moments that made me hide and stay quiet
Never understood but always wished I could

I wished and watched my life past before my eyes
Hearing lonely nights of my father’s cries
All the women who watched and waited
For the chance their love’ll be overrated

The beating of your heart crashing your chest
Hope dad knows how much I tried
All the women in and out and never get the best
He tried to hide the feeling with lies

Flashback to the present to resist
pain and a missed checklist
A little girl who was 4 and now 14
Looking at the past to see what it means and what she missed

I’m sorry for not helping when I could
you say it’s not my fault but it should
The countless things that way tons and ounces
Becomes the burned wall that my life announces

My life in the present is a closed book of rejection and regret
I Work harder in the present than in the past,
without a chance to wipe off the sweat,
Without a chance to make the good memories last

All I’m told is to let it go and let the past be the past
But how am I supposed to forget so soon and so fast?
As much as I try I continue to flashback to those moments
Knowing that even if I do forget, my life won’t have enjoyment

I continue to flashback and come back to the present
There will be no change without consent

The Nuts Fall Close To the Tree

In the dimmed theater, the stage is set
not for a play though, yet a performance
one of baton, brass, notes, timpani
the performance I have waited for has come

As the stage lights grow brighter like sunlight
the theater grows dimmer yet, almost dark
but for the brilliance of the stage lights
then out you come with French Horn in hand

Along with thirty of forty other musicians
you take the stage, you are first chair
therefore you must be at your best tonight
and I know that you will be, you've practiced

The Conductor arrives on stage and announces
Welcome to the Black Hawk County Honor Band
I am sure you will be pleased with our selections
The Conductor takes the podium, opens his arms

With baton in hand he signals instruments ready
You raise your horn along with the others
ahhh the sound is fervent with excitement
the theater is alive with Parker in G flat

I can pick your horn from all the other instruments
you are playing the best you have ever played
you are caressing your horn like a fine jewel
and it sparkles in the light brilliance unimagined

Like your brother the writer of poetic beauty
you also have talent, musical talent like I
you now can hear a song and play it, by ear
like I you are learning the guitar, teaching yourself

The next song, Bach, such beauty to my ears
you and your fellow musicians have mastered the master
two years you have played, it sounds like many more
I film the whole concert, to preserve the moment

The concert ends with a Beethoven, in B how lovely
again you played masterfully, never missed a note
You even hit high G, and you thought you couldn't
well done son and it's all on tape, and in my memory

Red faced you leave the atrium, you worked so hard
I hug you and tell you how proud I am of you
all you want is a drink of water, you drank and
the redness is leaving your face, well done I hug you again

I wish your Brother could have been here to see and hear
he would have been proud too, and would have hugged you
You see, talent runs in our family, Me, you and Jared
all have it, So I guess it's in the gene pool, must be for you see

The Nuts fall close to the tree !
