When playing basketball
being tall is best it's thought
but that's not all
wearing saggy baggy shorts on the court
needs keen hand-eye coordination
plus being fleet of foot
and have no quibble with dunk or dribble
if through the hoop a Wilson you wish to put.
As for American football
boring from the sideline I find
it's more talk less action
namby-pamby as opposed to rugby
which is wilder less calmer
and without all the body armour
now there's a game with some traction.
America's pastime baseball
is another matter
whether pitcher or batter
with Rawlings or Slugger
when on the mound I have found
unlike soccer or rugger
before a ball the hurler throws
and the pitch is hit or caught with a mitt
first rearrange the private parts in public
twitch the cap and then spit.
The sport of golf demands precision
baseball, perfect vision...
Although more popular than them all

*American football, of course
Our games define us, who we are
by which ones are most popular
First comes football, all blood and gore*
#1 with those who long for war
Then there's basketball, the 'city game'
for ghetto-dwellers, a path to fame
Last and least, poor tennis
long the 'gentleman's game'
Of late reduced to barbarism
grunts and shouts ~ through a racial prism

*American football, a violent sport
~ Limerick Style ~
At an age when most men are watching their stomachs grow
Tom Brady had second thoughts about hanging up his cleats, and so
He simply unretired
And instantly inspired
Legions of balding, middle-aged men to chuck a few passes
~ and sprain their right elbow

Tom Brady is the Greatest American football quarterback of all-time.
He has led his teams to a record 7 Super Bowl Championships. Last
month, at age 44, he came within a couple of whiskers of doing it again.
He's also tall, dark and handsome; married to super-model, Gisele
Bundchen; and has a brilliant future in whatever arena he chooses
to enter -- after he wins another Super Bowl next February, that is!
The fans are wild and crazy -
It’s the name of the game…
The game that’s most watched on the planet!
No, not American football -
Why it’s the soccer match of course – what else!
You’re simply an outsider if you’re not a fan –
Everyone covets that annual Ballon d’Or
And if you don’t, you’re so very odd!
Every country is represented -
Soccer is the Olympics of sports.
One eye on the dreaded penalty box…
While watching for the bend, that feat of magic,
For the screamer to see why it’s called a screamer,
Loving that howler as long as it’s not by your team,
And when your team has fallen behind,
Is there a better goal than the equaliser ?!
Praying for a brace or better yet a hat trick
Aiming for the GOAT
Hello…! the ‘greatest of all time’!!
Where have you been ?!!
And when that final whistle blows…
The whole world will take notice
And rise for the winner of FIFA !

Sam made it into Rugby School from Bishop Wulstan,
To study A-Level English, History and Economics, days,
For entry into Loughborough University, a sportsman,
Where he took International Relations about our ways.
There he played American football amongst able-bodied,
And was spotted by British Athletics for the Paralympics,
So he competed in the 2012s in the T35 100m embodied,
But missed out on the final by only a few split seconds, 0.6.
Then in the 200 metres in 3 days he ran a PB of 28.75,
But he changed track to become a shot putter on field,
In the 2014 IPC European Championships he did strive,
Such that he’s in the Rio team and backs the CP wield.

I am Sam
I am that I am
I am the one who became the first openly gay footballer in America
I am Sam
I am that I am
I am the black man
But I am Sam who does not see my gayness as having anything to do with my professional career which was a choice until like sexuality
I am Sam
I am that I am
I am the one who does not want to be judged by the color of my life style but by my actions on the field of play and the character of my heart
I am Sam
I am that I am
I am the Sam who is connected to the Rainbow Connection and I am a bridge to help others like me to come out come out no matter wherever you are to Saint Louis
The name of the Star
I am Sam
I am that I am
I am the you and I am me
I am that I am
I am the Sam the Ram
Over the green circle it sits above;
Under the red circle it shines below;
When the traffic light goes in between
do you speed up or do you go slow?
Mix it with red and you get orange;
Mix it with blue and you get green;
Mix it in the sky on a summer’s day
and it’s the hottest day you have seen.
It’s a caution flag at a NASCAR race;
It’s a warning card in a footballer’s face;
It’s a penalty flag in the USA
thrown on an American football play.
It’s the color of snow you should not eat;
It’s a taxi cab on a New York street;
It’s a six foot eight, Big Bird suit;
It’s the outside of the banana fruit.
It’s a fever that you want to avoid;
It’s a neutral color for a girl or a boy;
It shimmers and shakes as lemon Jell-O
It’s my favorite color – a bright yellow.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL
Football fever is the billion dollar sport that rocks the land
Other sports like tennis fans complain is just too bland
Oh, but football stirs the spirit and gets the blood to pump
Think the guys are special buddies, slaphappy on the rump--
Bowl games are dreams that keep the fans all screaming as they score
And they scold a ref for wayward plays he seems to just ignore
Lusty guys will drink some beer for gusto at the game
Lucky for the players--if they lose the coach is blamed
Now American football enthrals
There are plays there are tackles and falls
It’s not stagnant or staid
And it’s usually played
By men with oddly shaped balls
It maybe the words we use
not something that we see,
that makes it seem so strange
but maybe it's just me.
In cricket you have a square leg
football teams have wings,
with tennis a forearm is smashed
and golfers play with swings.
Then there's American football
played with a ball out of shape,
and athletes run for miles
to see who can break a tape.
Boxers have a ring with corners
wrestlers use a hammer lock,
baseball is played on a diamond
and badminton with a shuttlecock.
Gymnasts always act as though
they are throwing some kind of fit,
and motor racing drivers
have to drive into a pit.
Sport was for recreation
supposed to be just a game,
now they've become big business
and they're not at all the same.
