A BRIAN STRAND FORM 3x5 (2012)
The highlights of the Jersey Shore
like a bone beach, they were no more
along with the loved Ferris Wheel
that kids looked forward to with zeal.
The sounds of music, loud and clear
along the boardwalk, all would hear,
and to the Wheel, the kids would run;
for generations- had such fun.
Most kids and grandkids knew the thrill-
that Wheel spun round- was never still.
Until one day, Two-Thousand-Twelve,
the old-time joys would then be shelved.
When "Sandy Superstorm" arrived
not much within the park survived.
The sound of kids and music stopped-
with roars of wind and sea were swapped.
The howls of wind did make their rounds,
replacing joyous, happy sounds;
made a bone beach of storm debris-
that moaned and groaned for all to see.
This famous park's old Ferris Wheel
that kids looked forward to with zeal
the highlights of the Jersey Shore-
like a bone beach- they were no more.
I wished for love to come and find me and that’s how our story began
You invaded my world with your charm and understanding heart
I knew you were different from the start
We had many ups and downs, with a few bad falls
Just being with you, we have been thru it all
You listened without any judgment and did your best to stay
We are friends with so much love between us, yet seem so far away
How did we let everything go wrong when our connection was so strong?
You would always come back to me and pick up the pieces, put them together to make it complete
I’m afraid you won’t come back this time that you closed that door on our relationship
My time with you I have always cherished
Our time apart helps me remember how much you are missed
You always make me smile at everything with the smartass things you say
And the goofy things you do, with things like that, that is what makes you YOU
All we have been thru has been worth it to have gotten us this far
Just know I still have love for you
Kalona, you are the spark in my life that I’ve longed to have…according to everyone’s lovely behalf
Kalona, you are the lark in the park and I have plenty of stories to tell you to make you laugh
You are the year 2012…it’s amazing that you are yourself…
The most precious friend and niece I could ever ask for myself
You are ten…going on eleven…
That, again, is way older than our cat Ben
You’re a February child of happiness
You’re a wild and mild kind of progress
Your kindness shines like the sunshine tonight
You are a happy camper with so much delight
You are a miracle child that will soon be twelve
I will always remember you in the year 2012
It's like a traditional meadow,
Mixed grasses tossed and blown
Bobbing and swaying until the day
It's high and ready to be mown.
There are thistles, buttercups, clover,
Such a mixture to make a tasty hay
I do hope it won't be wasted come
That eventual harvest day.
The little Hawthorn sapling
Has blossomed a shade of
Of pink or maybe even red
Am not good at Colours but
I can see it in my head.
I sit on the seat every week
After my long slow walk,
Sometimes I play her music,
But always I talk:
Tell her how I'm trying
To get on with a life
And how I still miss
The companion of my life.
Every week, although I try
tears stream down my face
When it's time to go and leave
her in this peaceful place
Where the deer graze the roses
Birds fly haphazardly to and fro,
Where insects hum and buzz and
Windblown grasses sway and flow
Not a wood yet, just sapling trees
with the circle of friends around,
mostly plots still unfilled but here
and there a freshly turned mound.
And it’s here she rests
where she asked to be
under wide open skies
and the shade of a tree.
And it is such a peaceful place,
a pleasant walk
when I visit every week and
just sit and talk.
There is a small herd of deer
that I’ve never ever seen
but by their hoof mark tracks
I can see where they’ve been.
They graze on the roses
cropping them low
but the roses fight back
and in time will grow.
In this pleasant place I sit
and think of my wife,
all the good times together
in our long married life.
I know in my heart her going
was for her a kind of release:
in this not yet wood with the deer
and sapling trees I leave her at peace
im a bathtub full of luke warm water.
tic tac toe in red crayon on the kids menu
mom never lets me win.
itching the mosquito bites on my legs.
eating frosted flakes out of the box
sugar gets stuck in my nails.
morning eyes that never go away
no matter how much you rub them.
they say don't paint your kitchen red
because it will make you hungry
but red is a beautiful color.
Dad talks to Shakespeare's ghost,
“Make me like romeo.”
Mom reads his books,
“Make me Juliet.”
Broken Dreams Bended Knee June 1, 2012
broken dreams, bended knee
Black or white, you and me
Seven minutes of pain-free again
Goodbye my life it was insane
The promised land has failed us all
Dreams have gone, we'll still walk tall
We stand united to fight the fight
United together we'll make it right
Human rights and color blind
We're gonna win and save mankind
No more tomorrow, we're here to stay
Seven minutes of pain-free again
The young, the old, black and white
We'll stand together bring on the fight
Extend our mind, extend our hand
Join together take back our land
Broken dreams, bended knee
Black or white, you and me

It was long since I had learnt to think about you. A kite showed us the path of heaven where we walked.
There was a blue sea; we bathed like birds.
Climbing up trees and eating fruits we slept in the same dream.
Shade, green leaves and air looked after us like good servants.
Our own nest was built.
But-
As soon as you stepped out, the sky grew black.
Now sun, moon and rain touch me in the dark house of my heart.
The lines were too dead for urgency
The shaman couldn't be reached
The celebration is an emergency,
My heart was finally breached.
The crime scene, darker, meaner, time slower,
A pandemonium should have happened there
But it was outside, and my line was dead
Or it was just this party has no power,
The ghouls tried while I had a spinning head.
The call was nearer, clearer, the light brighter
The master could be easily reached
The place, better, cleaner, safer, prettier
The celebration couldn't be impeached.
The garden with lights that forever burn
Welcomes me with songs of joy,
I can fly now, I giggle in my every turn
Here, I don't need a kind of toy,
One last look..Tears. I will never return.
January 11, 2017, bestrevolver.
Time to rewind
Its 2012 again in my mind
Fragrance and black lips
Let me fill in your holes of emptiness
She's so beautiful I proclaim it but in no arrogance
Just some unadulterated confidence.
Time is stealing the days of our youth what a menace
Would you go with me to prom I asked by chance.
She fills the emptiness of my existence.
Because I day dream of her sweet lips
While playing Chazwick Bundicks Causers of this
She makes me dream of the day we melt lips
What am I feeling?
She's the causer of this.
Final verse
I enclose this
Like an eclipse
But overall love and peace
No other girl does it like this.
Last plank
in it's place
with it's own nail
like it is inborn error
making theater out of everything
fatal error
congenital error
you can't expect that putting the diapers to Cheetah
won't result in monkey rebellion
Senior citizen wakes up
Looks in the mirror
What's happened here?
Time has caught up
The end could be near
Nothing to calm the pending fear
So much left to do
A feeling of dread
So much left unsaid
Must be a dream
This can't be right
Visions of Heaven's eternal light
Here the children
Their beautiful laughter
Wonder what comes after
Memories of life come rushing back
Like a sideshow; a play
Wishing for one more day
Too bad the young don't know
It's all fun; They don't care
Life happens; not always fair
Twilight is here; No more time
Fading out like the setting sun
No matter our plans, our life is done
The urge is to die and not withstandbeing
killed
The conspiracy is to demise our
knowledge
But I will not let it swallow me and
I watch as the hands on the clock
Form a repeating angle and I stare
The reason is to try until ad nauseaum
I cant take it anymore!
No longer will I accept an onslaught on
cerebro
I'll get up. Go and never stop to care
Or listen who explains or who got it right
I rise to leave and as if by force
Am subjected to sit and continue a cruelty
To myself. I saw the year; wasted listening
to what I call stupidity.I shall sit and
watch
time run off the clock then leave this
dreaded room and pray for the marker.
