where and when is the best place to write? - Lewis Raynes's Blog

Hi, thoughtful poetry and confronting art..... and mathematics, are my interest. Have been writing, poetrying and painting for about 20 years and mathematicing for about 25. Of course we all have thoughts about random stuff often enough, I like putting those random thoughts into verse making sense or putting them on canvas to be a provoker. I prefer all styles of poetry depending upon my mood.

By the way, unless i state that a poem actually occurred to me, then they are all made up, fiction, whimsical, not true events, they are not biographies and only touch on uncomfortable topics to make the reader question things. I believe poetry has the ability to make us question our own morals intimately, like how the bard made us question suicide in Romeo and Juliet.

p.s. the bard didn't do suicide.

where and when is the best place to write?

It just occurred to me, I love spending any spare moments during the work day writing and creating poems about whatever comes to mind. I do not have a computer or internet at my old beat up house. So the morning during the moments in between busy parts is when I feel my most creative with a type.

My question: When, during the day, do you feel most creative for poetry?

and Where, during the day, do you write your pieces?

WHEN is when I have time! WHERE: Can be anywhere that i have pen and paper on me and not having to focus on a job. I usually end up doing it either late at night or lying out in the sunshine.

My favorite place is at my computer... Placed in front of my back sliding glass doors that over look my tree covered patio. It is very peaceful. A bird bath plus feeding the birds and squirrels makes it even more so... When to write? After my Hubby goes to work and or when ever the mood moves me.

PS. I also write with my Hubby after eating at McDonald's... We come up with ideas, brain storm, and write after lunch. Before lunch we hand out our poems to the happy- awaiting fans. The people there are great people.

Whenever my muse calls to me and I have no other pressing business. Many times while driving a verse or two just comes to me and I pull over in the nearest safe place to write those down before I forget them. Later I use that stored seed at home when in solitude to call forth the remainder of that poem. Some of my deepest and best poems are written in that way.

There's no specific time for me to write. Anytime during the day is okay if there is no disturbance. Quietness alone is important for me. Sometimes, when the day is noisy, I write during the night:) Usually, I write on paper first. Night time, it's just in the mind, which I copy down the next day as soon as possible:)

Most of the recent poems I have up were written while I was on a road trip. I feel that's the only time I can write. The only one bothering me will be the one driving. LOL, that's when the headphones go on. :) I try to write, during the day, but lately, my mind's all over. Lewis, thank you for this great topic... Hugs. LINDA

I don't have a set sleep pattern, so I write at all times of the day & night. The 'Where' though, is set and is almost absolute. At my desk, on the PC, with music from several genres usually playing.
