I was born and raised in northern California in the land of the glorious redwoods. My father worked in the lumber industry and my brother and I had a simple but wonderful childhood. Off to the big city to become a nurse and all these years later I still am. I was married for many years, have 2 grown boys and 2 young grandsons..Jordan and Elliot. Me proud? You betcha..it truly is the best thing about growing older. On my own now and enjoying all that I can cram into my life. I love music.. am a life long member of The Friends of Jose Carreras..poetry and music are my loves.I am a technaphobe..so bear with me while I figure this all out.

Time Contest

Hi my friends...my contest has filled and I will try to judge in the next few days. My "rules" were simple..Enclosed Rhyme..and no names on poems..I like to judge blind if I can.I have several poems with names..and MANY poems that are not Enclosed Rhyme. That is going to make judging very difficult. Im struggling with what to do here..
Please check your poems and adjust if you can.. there is still time to fix the problem..
I did not post an example..  I guess I should have. I would think that a poet could have found out what Enclosed Rhyme is if they didnt know..seems simple enough. Anyway...results in a few days..love...BG

I cut off abruptly there because I had too many words for the box. One last thing is spelling. I can understand an occasional spelling mistake of a difficult word but when I see three spelling mistakes in one tiny three-line haiku, I just don't understand that. It's good to appreciate the poetry of all poets, but also there should be a few standards upheld among us. And after all, there are online dictionaries, language translators and wordchecks galore! This should be a place to improve oneself, don't you think? Luv, Andrea

Barbara, I don't know what we can do to make our rules any clearer. I know I like a heads up if I mess up. ONce in a great while I will not read a rule correctly and I appreciate when a fellow poet lets me know in his comments. Lately I have seen people giving rave reviews to people who are not following contest rules. Sometimes it is very obvious because the person is using a completely different form and people are acting like he/she did a wonderful job and wishing him or her good luck in the contest! I wish we could all start helping each other to know when we have messed up! But i think if you warn people in blogs to check things and the poem remains posted with errors, people need to see that they cannot keep doing this and be able to win. As much as I hate to do it, I will have to be really strict in my haiku contest and try to only give good placements to those who at least SHOWED they were trying to to follow rules

Hi Barbara, I think many were confused by the term "enclosed rhyme" and thought it had to be rhyme within each sentence. However, the forms of poetry here gave a good explanation of a relatively simple form. I started writing something very complex until I checked the definition here. Best wishes to all who entered! Love, Carolyn

I like the form enclosed rhyme and it WAS easy to figure out from the poetry forms section on this site, so really no excuse, I find poets are just not reading the contest instructions~~ best of luck judging, never an easy task-- love Constance
