Question on entering a contest without a name identifier.

Blog Posted by Kathleen Kroll: 5/25/2017 9:12:00 AM

Hello, I am new to entering contests on Poetry Soup.   I hope you can help with this question that puzzles me.  Most contests state that you should submit a new poem in your Member Area without your name.  I assume that the sponsor doesn't want to know the name so it won't prejudice his/her opinion.  However if you post the poem in your member area, it seems that it would be difficult to keep your name separate from the poem that you entered?  Are there some ways that this is handled that I'm not aware of?  Thanks, Kathy

Cyndi, Thank you so much for your offer. I have a better understanding. Don't think it's necessary now. Best Kathy

Kathleen, we are not allowed to ask poets to put their names on their poems when being submitted.... they feel we might show favoritism.. which in that case can be very true. Your copyright is automatically place on your poem and is not seen by the sponsor.

It helps to know that the copyright is not seen. Thanks!

It just means don't put your name in the poem text area. The site does assign your name to the poem but the contest judges can only see the text.

When they come to judge the contest the sponsor doesn't see the copyrighted name just the poem, title and form :-) Some sponsors may ask for a particular title so they do not read a poem before it is judged:-) hugs Jan xx

Kathy ,I judge my contests blind, any poem entered with a name thereon or other identification therefore is not selected for further consideration.I would add I do not read poetry elsewhere on PS .
