Gratitude for man's ability to imagine good

Blog Posted by Kathleen Kroll: 11/22/2016 9:37:00 PM

We are watching the series on Mars by National Geographic.  As we sit here in the comfort of our warm home, I'm so glad there are a community of people who are not afraid to dream.  I can remember being so impressed with the landing of Neil Armstrong on the moon.  Now we are dreaming of intergalactic space travel.  It makes me sad to think that I probably won't be here to see it ( well may be-- in 2033, I'd be about 90)

It blows my mind to think what life will be like for my grands.  But then I remember that my mom didn't have a phone or a car and certainly not a computer growing up.  I remember that she always said that if she'd known that computers were here to stay that she would have learned how to use it.

The common denominator among generations then is not the technology but the heart and brains and ingenuity and imagination.  As poets, we know the power of imagination.

If you haven't seen the movie Arrival, I'd recommend it.  Good science fiction.  Reading the story on which it's based.

I loved Arrival. It was a POETIC movie!! (I had said that in a review I did of it in FB). Love your blog. Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Thanks, Andrea! I hadn't thought of poetic as a descriptor but it really fits. After all, it was all about language. Happy Thanksgiving!! Kathy

I am often 'chained' to my bed. If I didn't have my wonderful alternative universe, I think I would go mad. In here we walk the moon, play with stars, and ride with Pegasus. It's wonderful. I love science fiction and will most definitely check it out.

I'll check out the book. I read mostly poetry and children's books (as I have a seven year old and I write children's fiction.) Since the current elect president keeps ping-ponging on his views of NASA and space travel (we need to focus on fixing potholes versus he'll keep the space program going. He can't seem to make up his mind) I'm not sure how much more space exploration is really being planned. Astronomy fascinates me. That super-moon was gorgeous.
