Comfort zones.

We all have them. Things, times, or events in which we do not wish to challenge with spontaniousness. We take pleasure in our comfort, knowing with an acute sense of certainity that we are "safe", in this place, or that things will get better, etc.

Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with the concept of comfort, if one can imagine that. I love the way I feel when I am in a routine mode, or knowing how relatively safe I am from harm or embarrassment or failure, yet I hate how I cling to it. I mean, it's great and all, I'm not imposing any idea that we should get rid of comfort zones, but what I'm saying here is that comfort is a crutch.

I'm also not saying we should all go insane and start sky diving and jumping off cliffs, but what I want to get across to you guys is that we need to live a little bit.

Try something different in a while, like go out to a new resturant, or vacation somewhere else other than where you usually go. Take a different route to work, take extra curricular classes (I recommend Latin Ballroom!) Update your style, etc etc. you know, live a little. Comfort is great, but trying something new and exciting is sometimes even better.

This can relate to poetry too. I know personally I really stick to my guns and write free-verse, and usually talk about the same things. But I really feel like I need to step it up and change my outlook on poetry, on my writing style. I was in a huge slump, but now I realized that perhaps all the creativity in my areas of comfort are diminishing. Then I read a whole bunch of poetry from you guys and realized how many of you are experimenting with different topics, styles, and forms.

so I guess

It's time to engage in my life, in my writing, it's time to start kicking butts and taking names.
