Broken Wings

She watched him go early this morning,
her dreams shattered and spirit low -
on broken wings, a wounded sparrow.

Her tears fell like sudden summer rain,
gone is the love she thought was so true -
on broken wings, a wounded sparrow.

Promises made that he could not keep
left her with a wound that went so deep;
the door she opened with so much care
had crumbled down way beyond repair.

There she stays in the corner crying
just by herself and her own shadow -
on broken wings, a wounded sparrow.
