Visions of the Night

I lay down my head upon the pillows of the night Close these almond eyes of mine And dream Dreams of poetic metaphors Dashing between street lamps Interior motives and neon lights Changing landscapes Transforming lunar eclipses Into daylight harsh bright Fluorescent goals and darkest hopes Building empires and Demolishing them All in the space between The rise and fall of my chest Politicians crash and burn Wars are weighed by the value Of the men holding the swords Women are no longer dolls And Men are no longer my conquerors The poor are the richest in life Babies aren’t thrown in trashcans And children’s laughter rings through Neighborhood odes My people no longer stalk the streets To earn more then a shadow of themselves And Poets are masters of their own Souls This is my dream This is my dream I lay down my head upon the pillows of the night Close these almond eyes of mine And dream
