Racing Mind - Leighann Anderson's Blog

I do not know how exactly to write this blog because each of us is different regardless of some common characteristics that people have come to accept over the time of our evolution.  Our minds are all different but some times that mind will not slow down or even empty itself of thoughts regardless of what time it is.  Most thoughts are either of plans for the next day, some might be memories poking their little heads in, and some might utterly stupid making you tell yourself off for being stupid for thinking it in the first place.

Last night I simply could not sleep regardless of it being after 3am!  My mind was wide awake making me think all sorts in a messy procession.  For no reason whatsoever a memory of my childhood, and I assume many more, popped into my head: my fear of the dark.  Many children go through a phase of fearing the dark; in my brother it was rather severe, he got it at age 5 but never got rid of it until he was 11 years old, it caused tempory episodes of endless screaming; he took hours to settle down, I don't even want to know what he imagined seeing.  Myself, however, I got it after my fear of spiders formed; there had been a spider's nest under the floor board under my bed, one night I woke up covered in them, I was only 7.  I feared the dark because of that, I got rid of my fear of the dark when I was 8 but my fear of spiders remains, I can't even look at pictures of them without my skin crawling.  If I see a fairly large one my body jumps against a wall and I freeze and cry from utter fear without even knowing it.

Many children, however, have a special toy that they carry with them and sleep with because it provides comfort; I had a carebear - grumpy bear, that I slept with every night because that meant I wasn't alone.  This memory and childhood phases suddenly became a poem within my mind but it was far too late to turn on my laptop and write it down, luckily in the morning the poem remained in my mind and thus the poem titled:  Monster and Teddy, was written.  I hope it brings back a piece of everyone's childhood as it did mine.
