ABOUT ME : Late babyboomer Canadian born in the beautiful Eastern Townships of Quebec, and raised in Northern Ontario. Fell in love with Ottawa where I received my B.A. with a major in french literature. Still living in Ottawa, I'm finding out that oncoming golden years offer a very rich perspective on life and beauty.

The themes of my poetry are found in everyday life. I write mostly free verse but I'm also a member of Haiku Canada and have had haiku published in various anthologies.

Please visit often my growing collection of poems and I hope you find many will resonate with you. I'd love to hear your comments.

By the way, my name is pronounced Lynn, and my avatar is an ink painting I created on rice paper years ago. The symbol means PLAY - something I have finally learned to do in later years and poetry is definitely my favorite form of play.

Encouragement was the 'feed ' that developed me as a poet,(a 75$ win here in my first few months here! in 2007)so over the yearssince then I tried to dispense encouragement to others through my style of contests and interest in our art through my daily ,blogs Connie

Line,Not sure about being an 'institution' here, perhaps as an 'oldtimer' nothing surprises you(must say though Mark's marathon, was the most innovative imho)As for the 'heartbeat) that has always resided in two areas firstly these daily blogs(trolling apart, which sadly has caused many to leave over the years) and secondly the ' penfriend ' digital respect and love (in an agape sense)over many years despite circumstances that happen to us all,and yet our common poetic hobby remains a tie that is truly worldwide in its compass. If we were to meet face to face we would 'know' each other instantly because of our experience together here at PS.

You're very modest, Brian. Those contests of yours kept us on our toes. On the other hand, it is very true that the more connections we make on PoetrySoup on a daily basis, the more the site comes to life for us.
Date: 7/12/2019 8:16:00 PM
Thanks, Brian, for the many opportunities for us to showcase our work. Enjoy the semi retirement. I 'd sure like one of those! (from my job!!)

Keep working Andrea,(even part time) is my advice.Retirement imho is a place for 'work' and leisure but at your choosing. And of course keep safe that precious poetic poiema with which you have been gifted.

my soupie years here were mostly spent connecting with you, dear brian, either through my small contributions in your challenges, discussing about art via soup mail, or simply playing catch up... i have been touched by your dedication, poetic integrity, and kinship... thank you and keep rolling with us... huggs

Yes Nette, thanks being in PS over the years is a bit like a digital version of the snail 'penfriends'of yesteryears. We become close and yet are 'not' especially with the inherent identity theft dangers that inhibit the digital world.Have a creative weekend.

Very nice tribute, Line, thank you for doing this! And thank you so much, Brian, for the rather extensive work you have put into running contests. Yours have consistently been the quickest to turn around, and anyone who has run a contest knows how much work just ONE can be ... I personally can't imagine having to do them every day-or-so. I am still rather a "newbie" here, but I am no less appreciative of your efforts. I will continue to enjoy your selections, (have learned much there), and the other ways you contribute to our community. Blessings, my friend! :o)

Greg,my main focus was firstly to let the poet to choose as much as possible ,from their back anthology, secondly to concentrate on the poetics and the contents(how did it flow etc),thirdly I was never interested in the form and lastly to accept poems that had been entered elsewhere, thus giving folks second chances with their endeavours. From the comments and the way it filled up this approached proved popular and was interesting to as a sponsor as a convenient way (for me)of keeping up with the new talents that joined PS over the years.A win win in fact for everyone.Have a creative weekend

Brian, my participation in your contests have meant so much to me.. through your contests, I was inspired to stretch beyond my comfort zone. Your Imagist contest is one such example of where your challenge helped me to grow artistically. I am forever grateful for your time and dedication in daring us to flourish as poets. Thank you, Line, for posting a wonderful tribute. Warmest wishes to you always, Brian.. ~Susan

Brian, as I have told you by soup you and your contests meant a lot to many poets. You gave us all an opportunity to make old poems and new poems shine bright. Your contests will be missed but you have earned your semi-poetic retirement but can a poet ever really retire , methinksnot ~

Not a great fan of 'tip it &run 'Keith, but always good to beat the Aussies (at whatever,as they have our English love of sport in their genes),even with the 'tarnished trio' who damaged the Aussie name for ever, doing something no aussie ever needs to do.Next months Ashes is 'real cricket' and the true 'test' of standings between us.

Thank you, Line, for posting this tribute. Brian, in addition to what Line wrote, I appreciate your exposing me to various forms and concepts of poetry, the footle and imagism in particular. I am happy that you will continue to post your poetry on the site, and I eagerly anticipate your blog posts `as & when you feel so led to do.' Cheers! ~Mark
