Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

I just want to share some fabulous news about one of my poems, which I wrote for a contest run by Eve Roper …

I was recently approached by Cambridge University Press who asked permission to use part of my poem Owl See You in one of their publications.

OWL SEE YOU

Please don’t ruffle my feathers

It is very rude when you stare

I have the most sensitive hearing

And I know you are lurking there

I mainly venture out at night

For I really am quite shy

Many people don’t even see me

For I don’t make a noise when I fly

My head can turn 270 degrees

So my eyesight is extremely good

Under cover of dark I lurk in the shadows

So you may not see me in the wood

The poem will be published in Dubai 2017 and is being used as part of a course for children learning English language in the UAE. I have been sent a pdf of the ‘proof’ and the presentation of the poem is absolutely incredible and I am so proud.

YESYESYESYES!!!! Jan, I am so totally chuffed for you! Huge congratulations and glad that you shared this tremendous news with us! There is something additionally satisfying in knowing work will be read and enjoyed by children, yes? All those eager young eyes... hungry minds! Are you interested in publishing more? If so, I know a few markets and now that you have one publishing credit under your belt, you may be encouraged to try more (?) Baby Bug is one I know of.. (my girl loved the mag! we loved to flip through this mag together...) www.cricketmedia.com/babybug-submission-guidelines -- 8 or less lines. You could reach even more kids! Again, way to go!

Thanks so much Cyndi I am on cloud 9 at the moment - I got the PDF on Friday and keep looking at it to make sure I'm not dreaming at being approached by such a prestigious publisher. I would love to publish more and am looking at self publishing a book of my funny poems - a huge undertaking as I want 366 poems but I will achieve it.
