Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

Jan Allison Reveals All!

Ever since I joined Poetry Soup in 2014 I have hidden behind my dragonfly avatar as I wanted to be known for my poetry and not judged on how people perceive I look. However, I was recently interviewed by the local newspaper and an article with my photograph was published today so I thought it was high time I revealed the poet hidden behind the avatar

On Monday i was interviewed by the local radio station (Manx Radio) for a podcast to promote my new book. Toilet Humour and Risque Rhymes.

A lovely friend Sonya has also done a tiktok of her cute dog Stanley 'reading his poem. i hope you get the chance to watch it - she is a creative genius!

I would encourage others to take the plunge and have a go at self publishing on Amazon. Terry Flood gave me wonderful advice on how to do it, and I would gladly pass it on.

Aww that is such a lovely comment Susan, the interview was fun and I was totally at ease as Howard shares a love of Toilet humour, we chose the poems together as you have to be careful with it being broadcast so as not to offend people but there was plenty of warning lol:-) hugs jan xx

Aww thanks for the lovely comment Sandra, I don't seek fame but it was necessary to do a picture for the newspaper article - I only did a podcast with the first book. I just want to try and make folk smile with my silly poems and to make folk realise poetry doesn't have to be stuffy and boring it can be FUN:-) hugs jan xx

Glad you listened to the podcast, Howard is so lovely to chat to. I was not nervous at all (I was a little nervous with the interviews back in January this year for the 'A giggle a day can chase the blues away' book) but this interview was just like chatting with an old friend, he has such a relaxed interview style and puts you at your ease. hugs jan xx

Thanks so much Beryl, I've hidden behind the dragonfly since I joined soup so the newspaper article spurred me on to reveal my identity. the picture was very last minute. I was out at a Christmas function wearing a pretty short 'santa' dress when the journalist rang wanting the picture for later that day. Luckily I had my trousers and top to change back into lol. hugs Jan xx

Jan I was so happy to listen to your lovely voice during the interview. Your English accent made it the more nicer. Great interviewer but I wished he would have shared more of your poetry. Your picture is lovely you have such a nice smile. I loved the story of the folks who kept asking for signed copies and they bought 8 books wow. That was great story and nice to know. It's all I wanted as a gift - I chose the Amaryllis as I love the peach/white colour over the red or white ones. We want for little in life Michael, his cancer was a huge wake up call as to what really is a precious gift and that is your health - something money can't buy! hugs jan xx

Howard was great at putting me at ease and bearing in mind I write naughty poetry we chose the poems to be read out on air. I hope your wife like the book. Aww thanks Mike, the time was right to 'reveal all' I couldn't continue to hide after the newspaper article - and the journalist asking me for a picture with the book. Its weird really as i was due to have an interview about the first book but the lady went on long term sick and no one picked up the story... but almost a year later I got into the local press . hugs jan xx
