Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation  - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts'  was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl.  In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

TRIBUTE TO MANX FUNDRAISER BOB CORKISH

Blog Posted by Jan Allison: 4/23/2020 2:29:00 PM

I have posted a poem about an amazing 93 year old Manx fundraiser who  is trying to raise funds for the local hospital. I spoke to his daughter tonight and am trying to gain more coverage for his fundraising efforts.

So far he has raised £14,000 which is far shy of the amount raised by Captain Tom Moore in the UK who has raised a staggering £28 million for the NHS

We have had no new cases of the virus in 2 days and as from tomorrow certain sectors of the community - construction workers are permitted to go back to work, we are also allowed to make 'none essential' journeys, but apart from getting shopping for vulnerable friends we are staying close to home

STAY SAFE SOUPERS

HUGS Jan x

UPDATE... I have  been on the crowd funding page and some lovely souper has made a very generous donation to Bob's fundraising efforts - they have donated anonymously so can I say a MASSIVE thank you from the bottom of my heart for that wonderful gesture. I cannot stop smiling!!!

The total is over £16,000 - have found a facebook link his grand daughter has posted

A beautiful story. I hope he reaches his goal. I tried to donate, but my bank blocked it due to unusual activity since I usually don't do business overseas. I will call them next week, I would love to see Bob reach his goal.

Not everyone has money to spare especially at the moment when so many are not able to work, but as I said to Anne Lise they can make a difference in other ways:-) hugs Jan xx

You are welcome Jan. I find donating money is easy, donating one's time is the tough one. Hugs back to you.

Used another card and it seemed to work this time. I did reference your poem in the comment I left. I hope and pray that more will support him.

Oh Rob that is so sweet of you to try to donate to Bob's fundraising challenge thanks so much:-) His initial target was £500 and he raised over £5000 in the first day!:-) He is such a lovely gentleman, I have met him many times:-) He was inspired by Captain Tom Moore's remarkable achievement of walking round his care home in the UK - he has raised over £28 million for the NHS. Bob's money will go to 'friends of Noble's hospital. I know they have just donated over £200,000 to purchase respirators so I know Bob's fundraising will be very much appreciated:-) If you do manage to donate could you put that you saw my poem on PS I am sure the family will be very appreciative my efforts have helped with the fundraising:-) hugs Jan x

- I love (!!!) this man ... (and you, Jan:) ... anyone who can, should follow his footsteps ... - People do not bring their money up to heaven, or where they end up ... give while you live ... contribute positively ... Give the money for good and important purposes :) - hugs // Anne-Lise

- So true, Jan ... we can all contribute :) - Unfortunately, the pure facts - Everything in health, needs equipment ... medicine and research ... and it costs money ... - Everything that is free, we can give every day :)

I love your phrase 'give while you live' it may not be money you give, but your time to listen, a helping hand, or just a smile and a hello these are valuable 'gifts too and cost nothing:-) hugs Jan xx

There are other people who are fund raising but Bob touched my heart because he is following in the footsteps of 'captain Tom' I know he won't raise millions like he did but he is doing his bit for the Island community and I just wanted to lend my support by posting my poem on soup and I have seen one donation from a souper because it mentioned on the fundraising page they had seen my poem here, so its publicity for soup too!!:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Lin I am dropping my donation at the home I don't like crowd funding as they take a percentage of the money and I;d rather it went to a good cause. I would love to see Bob's face when he hears my poem on his talking newspaper!!:-)hugs Jan xx

I LOVE your pic on your page Mark its so lovely to see you and your greying hair lol:-) we have no new cases in 48 hours but sadly the virus is rife in one care home where we have had 11 deaths so far and sadly the number will rise as many now have the virus, its so tragic... I feel for the relatives who can't see their loved ones. Just stay safe my friend and thanks for commenting on the blog:-) hugs Jan xx

It was Tom Cunningham who did the poem for Captain Tom, he has raised over £27 million pounds, our manx fundraiser is so inspirational I had to do a tribute to him and get the message to a wider audience with my poem:-) hugs Jan xx

I am taking our contribution into the care home as every penny will go to the cause:-) thanks for inspiring me to write my poem I am sure your poem to Captain Tom went down so well and congrats on its publication:-) hugs Jan xx

Your comment about greying hair made me smile... I just find it so attractive in men of any height ... perhaps I'd better amend my bio lol:-) I hope no one objects to me doing the blog, I want to get as much publicity for Bob as possible. we are a small Island of 85,000 if everyone on our Island donated just £1 it would be a massive boost to the ' friends of the hospital' who have recently spent over £204,000 buying 9 ventilators for our small hospital. Stay safe my friend and thanks for being the first to comment on the blog:-) hugs Jan xx
