Work Cut Out Poems | Examples

Premium Member Many Coffees Go Cold - Reality Explained

the things you both see
you all see
is merely a continuity safeguard
one of the laws written in to prevent chaos
we can't have multiple lifeforms occupying the same space all seeing and experiencing something different
it just wouldn't work
so we've set impulses to align where and whenever possible
sure as hell easier when you lot are on your own
takes a heap of pressure off the system
that way we suspend everyone else
they're not needed
you don't surely think they're individually living do you
no, just on hold, paused
until you're no longer on your own
then we have our work cut out again
and many coffees go cold

Premium Member Heart and Soul Miscommunication

Does the soul know how hard my heart is suffering?
I wonder because 2020 is the year for them to misread each other
if there was ever a year for a miscommunication, this is it.

Sadness and grief in the form of death
When you believe in the soul?
How can you believe in death?

The soul nurtures the heart as we sleep,
But the heart is determined to retain her anger
masking the sadness of our mother’s death.

She was supposed to be here until she was a hundred and five
like the meanest great aunt I ever had.
Yet she was gone a year after this aunt,
an evil woman who was twenty-one years her senior.
I wonder about this sometimes.

The soul is doing her best to help me get over this.
Twenty-twenty has been a rough year; Christmas is coming.
I am in no way ready. The soul has her work cut out for her now.

Premium Member Pain Built This Kind of Wall

She was rough, gravelly, sharp, brash, unwelcoming, unfriendly.
The fence she had built around herself was unbreakable, stiff, metallic,
Wire screened with burlap.
Scratchy. Harsh. Stark. Unforgiving.
Many were fearful of getting close, not understanding
This much-needed barrier was protecting her.
One man saw through her hard ass facade. Her angry voice did not dissuade him.
He sought her friendship, because he had watched his mother
Build the same harsh, metallic, scratchy, burlap wall around her heart
After his sister was murdered.
Pain built this kind of wall.
Not regular pain,
Bone-crushing, blood-howling, screaming in horror pain.
This man had a satin heart.
A gentle touch, a willingness to scale the burlap wall and
Find the little girl who had not yet suffered.
It would not be easy.
Her anger had become her friend. The anger and the wall were the two
Things she counted on to keep her safe.
You have your work cut out for you when you decide to turn burlap into satin.

Obscure Veil

A prison for me
without the bars.
Inside my own heart,
with all of it's scars.
I cannot escape,
although I want to.
I'd run to your arms.
while the wind carried me
to your loving arms of safety.
I see no simple way out
of this one woman prison.
There are chains holding me,
but I still have my vision
of you and I alone on a hillside
and a field of sweet lilacs.
My vision of you
it always breaks through
the breeze gently hums a love song
that is glimmering with tones of you.
You reached right into my heart.
You found the real me not just some crazy girl
in several parts.
In fact you dared go one farther...
you attempted to fix the parts and place them together
into a lovely array.
Like a master tailor
you had your work cut out for you.
Stitching all of the hurt away
and getting poked by the needles of my words and temper at times.
But you never gave up.
You blew the wistful wind my way.
I feel your breath upon it today.
Please never let your wind stop crying for me
Please give me kisses in moonlit places.
And stroke me with your silken veils of rapture.

My love, set me free.

Two Points of Note

The sun is a machine which broke down last year.
I talked to the dream king who has his work cut out,
And he said 'who do you think keeps humans hopes alive at night.'

Better Than I Am

Ten years old and she's got so much girl power she just can not be beat
Attitude as tall as her dreams and her determination does back flips like
No one else has ever seen

Telling her which way to go is like directing the wind
Or instructing flowers on how to grow
She is the definition of a mind of her own

She has a slight problem
One I am working on without demolishing that awesome spirit God instilled
She thinks she's better than the rest of the world

Maybe she is,
But I want her to be

Compassionate
Empathic
Better than me

She has her work cut out for her and so do I

First I have to be better
To teach by example.
That is how I learned from my mother.

He's No Weiner

Each day it is get up before the sun, prepare the cart
Stock until it’s full and it is on with the day.
Mr. Johansson now has his work cut out for him
Selling dirty waters on the corner of 5th and Broadway.

For 34 years now, this has been his trade,
The vendor of food for the passers-by.
He never really made a lot of money it seemed,
But, he still never stopped and I know now just why.

His family had all for which they ever asked.
His time, he had given to them with love and ease.
A bank would never know him as a rich man,
But it’s through family and friends, that he succeeds.

He is a quiet man, just wishing to make his way,
Doing whatever it takes to provide and just get by.
An honorable man, no one could ever deny.
Truly more successful than you or I.

He never asks for help, independence he has.
He, however, is always willing to lend a hand.
If you are ever near the corner of Broadway and 5th,
You better stop and say hi to the hot dog man.

5th Line 3rd Stanza

Every poem he wrote
on every page of his book
in the fifth line of the third stanza
a mistake
a spelling mistake
pointing out some word or just the letter

to him the missing letters spelled a word
the added letter spelled another
and the words the letters were found among
or without were sentences

If you ask me
in the fifth line and third stanza
one mistake per page to hide a paragraph
who would do that
what wcshould it say?
and would it be worth it at all to read it at last?

the final chapter of the book
and there you are left with all the clues of how to read the ending
through spelling mistakes and missing letters to find words
5th lines and 3rd stanza and what it all means

this literary genius sure had his work cut out for him
