Tomb Poems

The tomb of a boy unknown

Unmarked grave
Epigraph reads slave
Not even dignified with a name
Just a ghost of a boy surrounded
By tombs of those known
Tombs of those never alone
In a cemetery full of strangers
Even in death he is separated from his family

Who was he?
The world may never know
His body buried just like his story unknown
He was born into shackles

Where the wildflowers grow

When i die,
Lay me by
Where the wildflowers grow

Then as I lay,
You can pray
For my presence to ‘round you flow

And as winter calls,
And the ice falls
And makes my grassy mound rise with snow

Let spring bloom,
Flowers on my tomb
Grow in the sun’s heat and the wind’s gentle blow

As summer rises,
Bringing heat to new sizes
And away my spirit

THE TOMB OF MIRRORS

There’s this voice that echoes inside of me,in the pit of my soul
He has long sharp nails, with which he tears down the walls of my heart, peice by piece
Every time my foot steps on the grass, greener than the day before
He pulls me down into the Earth
And I am submerged into the sea
Filled with

Nowhere To Be Found

Blessed and blasted what a beautiful day
Picnic basket lunch for You and me
Cone join us Lord, You're always welcome
What great company You will be
Tell us a story now dear Father
Thrill us all just one more time
Placed His body in the tomb at noon
He was nowhere to be found by nine
He is risen, yes the Lord

Silence

Silence is the absence of energy
No vibration, movement, or synergy
Nature muted, physics frozen
Molecular loss of motion

Stillness, cessation, yet more
Peaceful quiet we adore
Or the calm before the storm
A meditation to perform

Tranquility without a note
No rhythm or tempo to denote
Without melody or harmony
A sad musical larceny

No instrument, no voice to sing
No string to pluck or bell to

I Saw A Man Today

I saw a Man today as he walked the hill
Tears and drops of blood did equal spill
From brutally torn flesh and eyes of pain
I saw a Man today my inadequate refrain

I saw a Man today unjustly convicted
His trial was short and clearly scripted
The verdict assured without any proof
I saw a Man today who spoke only

In the depths of silence, when quiet becomes a deep and unwavering tomb,
where the echo of old certainties dissolves under the shadow of a bygone memory,
there, among the fragments of stillness, the subtle whispers of a new direction appear,
like a thread of light piercing through the cracks of an old wall, promising a secret spring.
In

1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

As I wait for the Son to rise,
for hope to soar through the skies
for the light of the world to shine
so that grace and love are mine…

I hear the

Tomb Of Unrest

the tomb of stone i built on my grave

A Sunday Morning

A small group of women
slowly approach a
tomb hewed from a
local hill.

A bright rising sun
begins to peek over
the horizon as the first
day of the new week dawns.

The Roman soldiers lay
all about the entrance
in different poses
as if asleep.

The mighty stone that
blocked the small
entrance to the hole of
death is rolled away.

The women approach and
look inside. The

Tomb of the Unknown

Twenty-one steps south down the black mat
Turns and faces east toward the tomb for twenty-one seconds
Turns and faces north, changes gun to outside shoulder and waits twenty-one seconds
Marches twenty-one steps up the mat
Turns and faces east for twenty-one seconds
Turns and faces south, changes gun to outside shoulder and waits twenty-one seconds
Twenty-one steps

The Curse of the Tomb

beneath the sands where time and shadows meet
there lies the tomb of one who cursed his breath
a pharaoh bound by pride his own defeat
entombed in gold and wrapped in linen death
his sightless gaze guards treasures in his depth
his name is lost but still his power stays
a ghostly force to haunt the desert’s haze

to those who

'On a Betrothed Girl' by Erinna translation

These are modern English translations of epigrams and poems by the ancient Greek poet Erinna...

On a Betrothed Girl
by Erinna
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I sing of Baucis the bride.
Observing her tear-stained crypt
tell Death who dwells underground:
"Thou art envious, O Death!"

Her monument reminds passersby
of the bitter misfortune of Baucis —
how her father-in-law burned the poor girl

For a moment when I open my door,
a sweet meow will greet me,
but, it is just a wish . . .

Oh, I want to live in that one moment,
I want to lift up kitty,
