Getting older day by day
Sunrise, coffee, chat, hurray
Smiles, news, regrets and wins
Things to do and former sins

TELEGRAM FOR MASTER B - EPHEMERA
January fourteenth nineteen forty six. Hooray, I’m eight today.
Dad still serves in India, four thousand miles away.
I’d barely recognize him if he walked in through the door.
For he had sailed away from us when I was only four.
A ring at the doorbell, I run to see.
“A telegram for Master B.” Who’d be sending one to me?
I read it, “Happy birthday son,
God bless you and everyone.”
Signed at the bottom, “With love from Dad.”
The best birthday greeting I ever had.
A piece of paper, worth nothing at all.
But it takes pride of place in a frame on the wall.

When The Silence Speaks a Little Too Loud
You gaze upon your blackened Moon
Wishing upon fading stars
~~~
He burnt down timeless bridges
For their times were done and through
Daily he'd reach out to obsolete frames of a body
One that used to be there, almost always
Could his echoes resonate into the lands beyond her
Echoes of cries of losers and wishers
Once, he could boast of all the Magic of Life
Now each Sunrise is a caption of a memory fading
He lit a fire, and played 'round it for its jolly
He ended up with a blackened heart and a charred dream
T'was as of Coldplay's loss of something you couldn't replace
Love gone to waste
"Come back to stand tall - to stand straight
Boast of the heroics of your letting go - and its redemption
But in the face of the mirror and in solitude
Pull off the mask and sink back into your sands of regrets"
"Stars came out again each night
And it was easy to pick out any
But it was only until He found a favorite
That one cloudy evening made a difference too many"
The Sun stayed on for too long
Now The Night is not coming anymore
The Night is gone
~~~

His mother was in the kitchen
There came a knock upon the door,
It was a policeman, with a telegram
She buckled to the floor.
Of course, she knew what it meant
But could scarce believe it true,
For every night, she'd prayed aloud
"Lord, see him safely through"
Her dearest boy, young and brave,
Sought glory overseas,
As he left for France she sobbed,
"Take care, come back to me"
But her dearest boy isn't coming home
For he had paid the price,
He fell out there on the front.
His future sacrificed.
Off he'd marched, with his pals,
heroes, every one.
Now they lay on Flanders fields,
Each a mothers son.
No victory parades for them,
No medals pinned to chests.
But never to be forgotten,
As with the Lord, they rest.
