Premium MemberForced to wear a Thumbless Mitten

I am more right-brained than anyone I have met.
Being left-handed goes along with this and my dyslexia.
An old-maid old-school old-faced teacher decided to fix me.
I was forced to wear a thumb-less mitten on my left hand.
Thanks Mom, thanks Miss Kneeland, first grade teacher.

After a year I tried to be right handed, but I never felt right-handed.
In these days children are allowed to be right and left handed.
I envy them. I wish I could have been one of them.
On a happier note, I can type faster than anyone I have ever known.

Premium MemberBabysitting Third Graders

The child is eight, and full of vigor
He was drumming on his desk
I knew in a few seconds I would have six drummers
Trying to outdrum each other, so I called him to me

He came right over
What’s up?
Where did you learn to drum?
My dad was a drummer
In a band?
head nod.
That is interesting!
He nods, excited, thrilled.

He sings too.
Does your mom sing?
He told me all about their wedding.
His sister got to go, she was about three.
He felt it was unfair he was not born yet.

Another child is stomping around the room.
I let this child return to his seat.
I call the stomper over.
Where did you learn to stomp like this?
The stomping stops.
He is thrilled that I have asked.

Premium MemberConversation With a Second Grader

How many people in your family?
She is in second grade; she said “one hundred.”
“One hundred people live in your house?”
I think she thought this was funny.

Two, she said.
You and….
Me and my mom and my sister.
That is three, I told her.
She did not argue long.

What does your Mom do? I asked.
She goes on the phone.
What does she do with it?
She texts her cousins and her boss and her mom.
But she doesn’t text her dad.
Why not?

He died in a car wreck.

Premium MemberScience Teachers Fault

Ed the science teacher encouraged us
To see what floats, the brilliant little cuss
We learned right away that Chet's Mom, she does not play
We ruined her dry-cleanable new velvet suit.
And both of her shoes, and her hat to boot.
But, Ma, it is a science assignment Chet said.
She was so angry, she whooped him and sent him to bed.
So I went home and experimented with stuff in the kitchen.
Pop Tarts, crackers, flour, sugar. Now my mama is ’n.
Lots of things don’t float Mr. Ed. Maybe you are daft in your head.

Premium MemberA Valentine For Our Teacher

Hey! Here is a valentine for Mrs. Kay, our music teacher, we said.
Mom rolled her eyes; her cheeks sprung red.
You mean your classroom teacher, Miss McGraff, she would reply.
We did not like her in the least, a fact that we could not hide.

But Mrs. Kay is fun, she makes Monday good, we said.
We would not miss McGraff if she were to drop over dead.
This was not a thing to say to our persnickety mother.
But when we said this, it delighted our eager-to-be-liked brother.

He laughed so hard, he fell over, and let out a stream of gas.
Mom hollered at him, because we were in Sunday mass.
The people in the pew behind us began to laugh.
But not the lady on the end – it was Miss Meanie McGraff.

Premium MemberIf You Think You Are So Smart

My child came home from kindergarten and said
“My teacher Mrs. Ballywack is so NICE!”
I was amazed; I had not heard anything good about the woman.
“She said, Tracy Krutsinger, if you think you are so smart,
You can come up here and teach the class!”

I love it that sarcasm did not hurt her.
She is too upbeat and positive to recognize it.
She has been a joy to us her entire life.
Now she brings us her children, who are also joys for us.

They have dogs, cats, and gerbils.
They are open minded, and love everyone.
And none of them would recognize sarcasm.
How marvelous is that? They have such a great mom!

The Cat

The little beast
Had the same routine, day in and day out
Until one day, two bigger beasts made to the cat, a plea
Teach us how to live, show us the route
The cat, determined to do good
Taught the Lion and the Tiger
How to hunt and how to sprint
How to sleep and how to eat
How to love and how to mate
It took a while, much was explained
They all sat down and took a deep breath
We did it fellas, I taught you everything you need
Oh but the tables turned
As soon as the Cat said these words
The Lion and the Tiger gave each other the signal
They pounced on the cat and chased him through the woods
The cat was well prepared
Never trust completely, his mom would say
He ran and ran
The bigger beasts chased along
The cat leaped and climbed atop a tree
The Lion and the Tiger were confused as could be
The cat never taught them how to climb
Who betrayed whom, who committed the crime?

Premium MemberWash Your Hands

When breakfast was almost ready, my mom would yell-wash your hands.

When lunch was almost ready, my mom would yell-wash your hands.

When dinner was almost ready, my mom would yell-wash your hands.

When I had lunch at my girlfriend's house, her mom would yell-wash your hands.

At school lunch time we would stop at the bathrooms, the teacher would yell-wash your hands.

Premium MemberTeacher Dear

Awed
I learned
great wisdom
from dear mentor
who was our caring, loving Mom in school.

Standing now as a privileged teacher*
I’ll share truth gems
by God's grace
to build
lives.

*2Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Release Me

Release me from the sadness we see everyday.

Show me how to help the homeless.

Teach me the way.

Release the tools, help me to cope.

Loosing love ones to COVID

Please teach me hope.

Release love, scatter it everywhere.

Give it to as many as you can.

Teach me the way, to show how much I care..

Release the fun, Christmas is coming soon.

Show me the magic.

Teach me the way, help me to sing a tune.

Release the spirit. That we once knew in our heart.

Show me how to bring a smile.

Teach me the way, for us never to grow apart.

Release the path, you hope I take.

Show it to all.

You taught me well dear mom, I will always appreciate

Story of My Life In Ten Lines

Born to the best mom on this beautiful mother earth
I was little luckier then the rest
Simply successful school life
Followed by flourishing fun at college
Getting married to my mate from childhood
Filled my life with love and merriment
Working as a teacher who is favorite of all
Mother to two daughters who are now not too small
My story might seem like a joyride
But trust me, it was full of jolts and jerks
