Premium MemberFuneral of Fireflies

flash
spark
lights dark
court and spark
fireflies on a lark
flirting with their little lanterns
adorn the skies, and tease the eyes, with starlike patterns
school-kids savor in Summer, before that bare bummer, the firefly funeral in Fall

Premium MemberHot August Nights

I remember when the sun would set,
And before long, workers took their rest.
I recall when the heat would decline
And hush, but not by much.

I recollect those southern summer nights,
Especially in the rural where there was so
Little light and where kids thrilled themselves
With the sight of lightning bugs.

There are things I wish that I could forget.
We never forgot to stay close to home to
Avoid the southern summer fright, because
Some sad souls were not very bright.

Premium MemberGoodbye July

Goodbye July, it’s been so fun
With your longer days and hot sun
Now we must part ways, it’s time
To welcome in August this summertime

August will be special and sublime
With its long dog days and just in time
And will bring us special summer gifts
As the days shorten and the climate shifts

The summer fairs will soon begin
with many rides, food and games to win
Kids will beg to go there to eat and play
A rite of summer that’s here to stay

Hummingbirds will be out to score
Before leaving again to fuel up more
Beautiful hydrangeas will bloom until fall
It will soon be the end of summer for us all

Premium Membersummer footles

hot sun
kids run

loud scream
ice cream

sky turns
clouds churn

sand play
bright day

first drop
screams stop

rain falls
joy calls

they dance
wet prance

rain play
best day

Premium MemberSummer Break

They drift into my mind quite frequently,
those memories of days when I was free
of classrooms, books, and teachers. I could be
an unencumbered child. Time was the key
that opened doors to creativity
for kids performing their own comedy
and posing for those snapshots all would see.
Backyards transformed to wonderlands as we
rode piggyback and played with buoyancy.
Green grass served as a cushy mat for me.
A little rest made summer tiredness flee;
then I pursued fun to the nth degree.

Premium MemberAt the Peak of Summer

at the peak
of Summer
a calm heat
all is green
and silent

lantanas
have flourished
all in bloom
most orange
one bright red

the bouquet
says hello
when I step
out to greet
day or night

gives solace
to my heart
most grands’ grown
and far off
bless my soul

and God bless
my soul’s test
it is hard
but I’m blessed
in Summer

leaves will turn
leaving limbs
twirling hues
what more can
I ask thee

I’ll feel chill
fairly thrilled
when kids call
in shiver
of Autumn

Premium MemberTHRILL OF LATE SUMMER

SEASONS NOW AND AFTER Poetry Contest
Nette Onclaud
8/8/25

As summer winds to an end, there's a pitch
Summer's last breath rocks with school-aged kids
Soon, the air will be filled with excitement
Like hens racing for corn at feeding time
College kids are racing off to their schools
With the new school year, friendships are renewed
Back-to-school shopping and clothes are noted
On-campus parties under the radar
Drawn lines in the sands, aphrodisiacs
And heaps of gossip, stories, rear their head
This yearly song finds all school kids singing
The thrill of late summer, school, brings sweet dreams

Premium MemberSummer of love

heart full of wishes
lips full of kisses,
roses red with bees,
twitter, twitter trees,
summer abloom with love.

shopping malls are full,
new fashions their pull,
laughter, giggles, cheer,
beauty walks new wear,
Summer abloom with love.

ice cream vendors day,
amidst kids at play,
shorts, hats and sun cream,
romance, hearts in dream,
Summer abloom with love.

brook slithers slowly,
lilting sweet lovely,
long while to sunset,
when world looks the best,
Summer abloom with love,

…. and in my arms my angel.

Premium MemberSummer In The Sun

On the shore sun tanner's bathing
Boating people, passing; waving
Seashell looking- children explore
Sun tanner's bathing on the shore

Summertime house rental booking
Children explore- seashell looking
Sipping sea breezes with my spouse
Rental booking summertime house

Kids licking flavored ice freezes
With my spouse sipping sea breezes
Having fun when the sun is ticking
flavored ice freezes- kids licking

Spending my summer in the sun
When the clock is ticking, having fun
No way can this be a bummer
In the sun spending my summer

Premium MemberTime's Up

Mom and Dad dodged the mid-July sun—
in the shaded pool, having such fun.
   Then their three little kids
    started blowing their lids:
”That’s OUR pool. Please go buy yourselves one!”

Premium MemberCranium Composure Compromised

Calendar commences, conviviality,
kids kvetch knishes cold,
cantaloupe crappy,
kids constantly crunching cookies,
cake, candy.
Could kayaking, canoeing, camping
in Canada cure cantankerous
children's contention?
Can caddying at the country club
conquer kid's complaining?
chaos could conduce calamity,
kindred claiming complete cuckoo-ness,
summer sanity-stealing s'mores scavengers!

                                         sweltering heat waves

smiles, and uproars of cute kids ~

                                          cool delightful pools

Premium MemberSummer Affair

Lizards are lazing here and there.
Kids enjoy the water sprayer.
	Crows're hopping 'round
	across burning ground.
Please soon end this summer affair!

Premium MemberSummer Memories

As kids, when my siblings and I worked outside,
our energy fell prey to the summer heat.

Though respite came when the blazing sun would hide,
clouds, with the sun, can’t consistently compete.

Twilight play, cool baths, and fans helped us abide
those hot days, plus homemade ice cream, Mama’s treat.

Premium MemberA Symphony of Summer

In the domain of summertime delight, Where wonder and harmony intertwine, A tapestry of comeliness bears flight. Bathing the world in hues is so divine. The flowers, oh, how they blossom and thrive, Their vibrant colors bear hearts come alive. The rivers and streams, serenade a song. A Melody soothes and carries along. Bees buzz gladly create a melody. Leaf in a rhythm, falling for remedy. As they run and play, kids appear sublime. Water hitting shore adds a quiet rhyme. This season's feelings, laughter in the trees, Where leaves ramble and waddle in the breeze.
