Notes About The Poem

8/6/2026 for Stars or Fireflies Fibonacci Poetry Contest sponsored by Hiya Sharma

Funeral of Fireflies

flash
spark
lights dark
court and spark
fireflies on a lark
flirting with their little lanterns
adorn the skies, and tease the eyes, with starlike patterns
school-kids savor in Summer, before that bare bummer, the firefly funeral in Fall

Oh my, this is so nostalgic and hued with memories of the childhood, the glimmer of goodness that shimmered across the horizon ~ in the form of fireflies.. their souls filling us with so much magic of innocence and warmth .. I really love how you've also rhymes your opening lines here, dear David! "adorn the skies, and tease the eyes, with starlike patterns" beautiful! Yet that ending .. sigh, this is sweet and then bang! The firefly funeral! This is so unique and orginal of you! Congratulations on your placement in my contest, sending you soothing starsz and magical moonbeams 💫💫🌙🍂🧚

Thanks, Hiya! It was fun! I was actually thinking, I think this Fibonacci sequence may really be good for poetry in that a given line has the same length (in syllables) as the prior to. I think there's something to that. Thanks for your kind, sweet review!
