Paris

One glorious, sun-drenched, thirsty December day,
I sat, numbed with the agedness of a visitor, and
Fumed eloquently with joy for the benefit of the
Seine – the ointment of Paris.
Somewhere along the gritty line laid bare by sere weeds
Of winter,
A restless tranter eulogised:
“Ce est Paris!”
From the whistling, grating metro to the navel of
Elevated Eiffel, the tall, metallic maiden,
I saw frantic beauty.
I inhaled the peace of the atrium, sighting
Our Dame....
“Ce est Paris!”
The voice, girly, and with the earnestness
Of chivalrous youth, came again, cold and soft,
Just the way of a sprightly winter.
Turning, I saw Paris in full nakedness of her beauty, like
A priceless fresco hanging from the sky.
“Do you need company?” The tranter anglicised her French.
In one gulp I swallowed the pride of Paris.
“Hmmm!” I grunted, wincing loudly from brio,
Counting my woes should I plod away to the red light areas,
“Give me Shakespeare and Company”.

Briefer art thou, better O Life

Ever since we called thee as grief O Life,
Heavy hast thou turned, light as leaf O Life.

Not sprightly, but nigh painful do thou feel
As if ye climb up a stiff cliff O Life.

Hence, thought up I have this remedial pill:
To bestow thee boost of life brief O Life.

In this world, unfortunate seems just he
Who vies with thee with needles tiff O Life.

The long and short of life be this, O life,
As is with guest, so with life brief O life.

Premium MemberSummer Sonnet

Each Summer blossom, rustle of the trees,
Spring’s over, I know your work is all done.
Every bird in flight, every gentle breeze,
Summertimes here to have fun in the sun.

Still glowing brightly, is the colored moon,
Wonderful perfumes drifting so sprightly,
Excitement of surprises coming soon,
Summer sun shining, shimmering slightly.

By the seaside the ocean is churning.
Such sunsets, the skies drenched in purest gold,
Notes you send, to tell me you’re returning,
Stunning scenes, fields of flowers to behold.

These wonders I cherish deep in my soul.
So when Summer comes round, I'm feeling whole.

her ardent passion for their company had them cheering all day

New Sonnet for Brian's contest. 1/7/25
___________________________________

Still glowing brightly, is the colored moon,
Wonderful perfumes drifting so sprightly,
Excitement of surprises coming soon,
Day's sun shining, still shimmering slightly.

To know I am the answer. Feel what’s mine.
In the pages of the almighty script,
Threads of destiny weaved in every line,
To feel all my desires so tightly gripped.

Every bright sunset that turns the sky black.
The sunrise, sky wrapped in purest gold,
Every message that says you are coming back,
It's the feeling of your strong hand to hold.

Distant cluster in the vast Luna space,
Universal truth ready to embrace.

Sproing!
What's that?
Joyful sun,
shining brightly,
ready for some fun,
radiant and sprightly.
Will my mom make me pancakes,
or will I scarf down Frosted Flakes
before I romp 'neath your warmth all day
to find out just how much one boy can play,
and before I grow tired, at last, and rest,
but first reluctantly get undressed
to avoid mother's frightful wrath.
I deign to take a vile bath,
and then it will be soon,
when, from my window,
I'll ask the moon,
will I miss
my 'night
kiss?

Premium MemberThe Clown

The spotlight flashes with a funny flair
on the sagged dress of a meek man on stage.
A miniature crimson cold sun shines stuck
on his puckered porcelain face of forced smile.

An animated caricature captured
in the frame of a comical frail figure,
tramps in inertia round and round
the circus arena to amuse awhile.

The sprightly body swivels in reflex
with the flexed shuffle of acrobatics,
as the sleight of supple hands performs
the perfect act of jugglery.

The labored buffoonery performed
by the funny fragile clown of lost soul,
falls flat as flakes of stale joke
on the silent spectators.

Before the neon lights go out
in the last show and the curtain falls,
the slapsticks peel slowly
the paint off his sweaty face.

The unmasked face trenches the trail of tears,
he has long shed un-noticed.
He leaves the stage singing a song,
the lyric written by his broken heart.

The uproar of laughter at long last
explodes with claps in the gallery.
The applause hails the clown,
left to live the comedy of hollow life.

sprightly songbird

“The sound of birds stops the noise in my mind.”
— quote by Carly Simon
----------------------------------------------------
I see pair of red-whiskered bulbuls
with wrong-end rouge, spikes, eloquent note
gurgling - spinning love, singing the loop,
billing, bowing, chattering. I swoon

Premium MemberThe Mouse And The Cat Fable

A wise mouse lived alone in a narrow hole he had dug
in the soft soil in the backyard flank of a large house,
whose owner had a pet cat that seemed the master
of the house, for she moved around majestically
in the sprawling premises with an agile feline grace.

Once as the mouse was sniffing the ground for food
the sprightly cat chased him, but failed to catch,
for the alert mouse ran like lightning into the hole.
From that day the cat sat all the while by the hole,
waiting for the mouse to come out in search of food.

The hungry mouse faced a problem of life and death,
choice of death from hunger or being a prey to the cat
became a huge predicament, but he chose the latter,
for there was a chance that the cat wouldn’t be in sight,
and outside the hole he could find fast food to survive.

After his stomach was full his brain started to work,
flashing a novel idea across his confounded mind.
He crawled cautiously, dug a few more holes wide apart,
the confused cat didn’t know where the mouse was,
who was happy for inventing a bright piece of thought.

Moral : A little thought can solve almost all problems.

A Warm Lipped Westerly

I am madly alive today,
one has to get mad not to be dead.

I wander out,
wending through myself
allowing the warm west wind
kiss the thin ice of a low mood.

Smiles light up my gladding blood,
clouds scud.
I take the bright light
in the field rabbits' eyes,
to set fire to my own sight.

I must give praise to whatever,
I see it threading my reality
through this warm breath of infinity,
both I and it are madly in love
with every crazy-hearted lover.

This boisterous day
the Westerlies do blow,
and the Spring air leaps
as sprightly as a young girl
running over
a sweetly waving meadow -
    and by god -
I am mad to be that green grass
      beneath her!

Premium MemberLittle Beige Gecko

Romance in Nature is filled with dancing and singing, and a little color.
~ Poet

A sprightly creature shares my home.
Little beige gecko, oft times green,
regards my porch as if his own.
Many hours he may be seen
from railing to roof, and in between.

My porch, his favored retreat,
filled with ferns and jasmine yellow,
provides his shelter, idyllic and neat.
He loses his temperament mellow
when time to challenge another fellow.

At mating time, he struts proudly.
Neck swollen, throbbing ruby from red,
he swaggers and performs loudly.
Prancing around without dread,
he becomes the male he sees in his head.

Footprints

I look back at my footprints,
Which showed my progression.
A better one indeed,
Learning how a life proceeds.

Know that yesterday isn't tomorrow.
The past chapter is closed,
A new one might start soon.
Put on a smile and go.

True colours comes out
When a problem arises.
A sudden courage appeared to solve
Those one by one, it brought peace.

Heart untangled from the ties
Which were knotted very tightly.
Unraveled one after another,
Till the heart was set free.

Now, a happier era has just begun.
Where people I trust are around me,
Jovial and sprightly,
Which makes me persist freely.

Beautiful Obsession

It's in my heart and always on my mind.
I can't lie; I think of it all the time.
At early dawn and late in the midnight hour.
I can see it, I can feel it, and I often dream about its beautiful power.
Some say I'm crazy...
Hmmm? Maybe they're just lazy.
Others ask, "Is it worth it?"
Well, naysayers are going to 'nay,' so
I'll keep pushing and pulling it.
I'm tending the bars; that's right, I'm bartending.
I'm pushing and pulling, and I'm not pretending.
Yes!
Pushing and pulling for my health,
Fighting and grinding for invaluable wealth.
Living sprightly on the bars, pushing up off Mother Earth,
The pump in my chest, the shakiness in my legs, and the sweat on my brow show their worth.
Getting over the rope and making quick bursts across the land,
This beautiful obsession just continues to grow, and most will never understand.
It doesn't feel good, sound good, or look good when I'm going through it.
But there is a beautiful pain that hurts so good, just knowing I'm staying fit.
With each rising sun and every shining moon,
My obsession remains, and it's going nowhere soon.

Premium MemberAging fun

I used to walk with such a sprightly pace,
Now I shuffle slow, like I am in a race...
With a turtle. My steps, they take their time,
Each creak and crack a rhythmic rhyme.

My memory? Well, it is hit or miss,
Where are my glasses? What did I miss?
Oh, look, my fly’s undone again—oh dear!
That’s the third time I have done it this year.

My teeth, they have started playing hide and seek,
One's in my coffee cup, so to speak.
And as for sight, well, let us be clear—
If you are far away, you are not even here.

But aging is fine, I will make it through,
I just cannot recall how old I grew!
Yet in this life of aches and bends,
I laugh it off—it never ends!

The Healing Balm

Shadows of the day leaned against the wall
applauded the bug which made you fall
A search began for the healing balm
and called to arms ways to calm the storm
Heaven was warned and the Earth informed
Life must work for a prize if death is armed
with aches and pains sharp as an arrow
its bleary eyes piercing through every window
formed grey clouds to hang over the meadow
But see, how refreshing the sprightly rain falls
Upon holy grounds where snow-flakes thaw
The running quake subsides and withdraws
dissolved in a ray of hope and welcome joy
And savor every moment your heart employ
With every twist of threshing sinews and nerve
The flagging weight goes lighter in a rare view
When bright moons break through the gloom
Your exhilaration see how happy children play
Admire great faiths when frenzy people pray
Dark atmosphere fades into the ever-glades
Recite praises with the gracious healing balm
The healthier days are coming to you again
Each step is victory in the journey you create
On the realm where healing virtues await
