Majestic wetlands
Reflecting tenuous limps
Under a blue quilt

Ibis
Idolized by pharaohs, monarchs and kings;
Bird of the wetlands, marshes and swamps.
Interesting forager with long bill and stilted long legs;
Sacred icon of the dynasties of yore....

Alligators bellowing chorous dance.
Eerie freshwater gator holes.
Intense jaws, killer lizard-like.

Rippling River
A
river
gurgles and glints
with grandeur and gumption,
water winds its way through wetlands,
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES IN ITS PATH,
rapid, rolling, rippling, rubbing

smooth.

Another Rainy Night I Suffer
drowned in the drumming wetlands
we wade through pools of glass
and begging loam
as young fish we tumble
in running water
a child`s palm
just one with water, the rain;
we have the wash and ebb
in our eyes...

Sign On a Backwoods Road
Hairy spiders do not grill
steaks on consecutive Tuesdays
due to alternate-side-residency-
restrictions in bushes on parkways
Nevertheless, if seeking opportunities
to slake cracked-throat-thirst
Welcome to the Wetlands
where founts of poetry burst...

Beware the Bayou
black-water canals
where alligators patrol
and moccasins wait
where starved mosquitoes
invade in hoards at twilight
thirsty for fresh blood
at morning's first light
dawn illuminates cypress
birds announce sunrise
perilous beauty
on display in the Wetlands
and all is at peace...

Wetlands
Each year migrating pairs
Return to the wetlands to breed
To join the resident inhabitants
Who have never felt the need
Frantically honking Geese
Ducks and Swans of assorted breeds
Nesting Wildfowl of every kind
Using the seclusion of the reeds
And in the rich wetlands
The multitude can readily feed...

I do not know?
Micanopy Moonshine
Beneath the stars
palm trees murmur
soothing melodies.
Night creatures
softly harmonize
sweet serenades.
Above the prairie
full moon rises
dissolving wetlands shadows.
Warm air caresses
blissful naked lovers
unified motions.
Sparkling bodies
reflect silvery light
of Micanopy moonshine....

Another Rainy Night I Suffer
Drowned in the drumming wetlands
We wade through pools of glass,
wet smoke and sacrifice
A summer rain, warm as loam
As young fish we tumble
in pools of standing water
Solvent with rain, a child`s wet hand,
Diverted by the sea in our eyes,
we are more than water....

Wetlands
Wasted landscapes without proper tenureship
Evicting the true owners from their habitats
Tensions between the economic and survival
Leached sands, eroded banks of stewardship
Artificial substitutions and the phobia of bats
Nature besieged by ignorance and the political
Denude of forests, wetlands, and pollute the seas
So producers and consumers are soon decease....

Early Morning At the Beach
early morning sun
sparkles crystal blue water-
like aqua blue glass
a flock of seagulls
hover over crashing waves-
watching for sea fish
sandpipers on shore
searching for dead crab pieces-
while chirping their song
bright pink beach roses
waif in the salty sea air-
masking ripe wetlands
tide slowly building
as the ocean is waking-
waves crashing louder

Spring Senryu
Spring Senryu
as the sun slumbers
unseen hands tend night’s garden
fireflies applaud
pollinating roses
red faced – caught in the act
a thorny dilemma
the dandelion
spring’s forever WTF
roots of anarchy
nothing but net
the mosquito goalie quit
buzz – buzz- slap – ouch
the great blue heron
mocks the wetlands trees
standing on one leg

The Wetlands
as swallows land and swifts take flight
inside late noon’s last shards of light
the chill winds that descend on day
cause dense green swathes of reeds to sway
across the flooded vista’s ground
in harmony with nature’s sound
of shrills that echo through the air
from birds and insects everywhere
while stars with room to breathe and shine
light up a land divorced from time
to show the beauty and true worth
of life in balance here on earth....

Wild Birds
I am an Ibis, a wading bird.
Times have become quite absurd.
My family used to enjoy the wetlands.
The cool fresh water answered all our demands.
The global weather patterns have all changed.
The water situation is definitely rearranged.
Water in our habitat did just deteriorate.
Forcing us to fly east and migrate.
We all made homes in each city.
Which is really now such a pity.
Our search for water is sad.
Our future is pretty bad....

Wetlands Rule In Australia
Kakadu Wetlands is home to three million waterbirds
From May to October it houses the comb-crested jacana
Jabirk, egrets and brolga also take their respite here
Macquarie Marshes are used by the Wayilwan people.
They use the Macquarie for burial grounds and ceremonies.
Interconnecting lagoons and channels of Mareeba are bird-friendly.
They give sanctuary to the Australian pelican and crested tern.
Also the threatened home-southern bell frog. Wetlands rule!...

Pussy Willows
Pussy Willows
Among the wild cattails marsh,
Wetlands mire and morass harsh,
Pussy Willow buds appear
In warm grey fur chase off winter’s jeers.
Close to streams they sink deep roots
Laps up milk of streamlet’s fruits
Vernal purr of perfection
Sacred siren of Resurrection.
