honking expletives
an irate driver
aggressively gestures
at my patient attitude
and the gaggle of geese
crossing in single file…

Great lumbering beasts

Single file, follow behind

Listen to poem:
Swans steam across the lake.
Streaming in, heads held high.
Strung out in single file.
Stippling surface with wakes.
Signaling flock to join.
Sensing storm clouds brewing,
Shuddering storm ahead.

Jobless In Atlanta

Unemployment line
Single file to soup kitchen...
Fear of homelessness

Unemployment line
Cries in emergency room...
Fear, no insurance

Unemployment line
Like a faith-healer's crusade...
Hope to help, heal, house

Limerick Syllables : 9,9,7,7,9.

Now there once was a Scotsman named Milt,
And he tripped on a stair with a tilt.
Bounced on each step single file.
He jumped up wearing a smile.
Now we all know what is under his kilt.

Premium Member Noisy In Boise

One thing that's puzzled this old geezer for a while Is it noisy in Boise or do they quietly walk single file? Only John John can enlighten us Don't mean to cause a big fuss But then I can go bye-byes to dreamland like a child

Flatline

"flatline"

the littlest souls cry silent tears in single file too quiet too soon
hand in hand they slowly climb towards a kinder man both lamb and lion

Rhymes With I'Ll

I'LL
SINGLE FILE
SOMEWHAT SERVILE
I WALKED THE MILE
STRAINED TO SMILE
ALL THE WHILE
I DISCARD THE GUILE
SWALLOW THE BILE
WITH HAPPY DENIAL
I REDUCE THE PILE
SORRY TO RILE
I'M NO ISLE
SURFED THE DILE
THIS 'CHILE
WALKED NO AISLE
LIFES A TRIAL
SOMETIMES INFANTILE
THROUGH THE TURNSTILE
WITH STYLE
I'LL
PLAY ANOTHER TILE.

Behold the Mighty Pyramids

Behold the mighty pyramids that stand beside the Nile.
The pyramids appear amid three hungry crocodiles
Who are swimming down the Nile in a hungry single file
As they eye an idle anglophile a mile down the Nile.
And in awhile these crocodiles, now three satisfied reptiles,
Reappear amid the pyramids with three horrid toothy smiles.

Strawberry Bandits

The furry band of thieves crawl in the night,
wielding Zorro masks and sly grins,
soundless in single file,
under fences and through prickly bushes,
the little ones straggling in back,
they come upon their spoils,
ripe and red for the taking,
juices flow down their chins,
a light has flooded the crime,
their last bites taken,
fleeing satisfied

Riverland

Restless river winds.
       winnowing valley farmland.

In Father's garden chickens squawk, squabble.
       Silver sunlight dances.

       Hens spurn gardens bounty,
       for girl in dusty pants,
       rattling evenings grain bowl.
       Prancing single file behind
       fowl feet indent narrow path.

       Wind rustles treetops.

Young At Heart

While skimming pebbles on sapphire sea,
You caught my eye with a cheeky smile,
Then later still we set our Pooh sticks free,
We watched them sail away in single file,
No grown up talk as I like you crazy, see,
So what if sometimes we play juvenile,
For soon enough you’ll kiss my waiting lips
And grasp love’s gentle breeze on fingertips.

Where can all these people be going?
Thousands in this one huge terminal
Scurrying along like ants in single file
Growing impatient with any distraction
A last minute gate change or delay
Brings no holiday traveler satisfaction
One must look closely for the rare smile
Long lines waiting for next vacant urinal
In a full Airbus or Seattle's 737 Boeing.

Repititious Lifestyle

Single file lines going forward into oblivion and lost upon the way
A lost sense of corruption, gaining another sense of nothingness
A feeling forlorn. A feeling repugnant. A feeling transposed, again.
Trying oh so very hard not forget the origins of the forgetful soul
Happiness turned rotten, turned to ash, turned tasteless. Face the fact
Quiet remembrance, a quiet longing for all things new, again.

Fin

mother earth crawls
with parasites
sucking her dry
'they don't know any better'
last straw too much get out-
but it's cold- don't forget
your sweater. about time,
we're getting old (our wings
withered, we wept our souls
out, into the sky) too
late to learn how to fly
how to die with style- just
a little while, we'll stand &
form a single file, sudden
flicked domino effect, one
two three go-

Premium Member Lilies Of Lucent Light

Lilies of lucent light,
single file walking along
the cloudless pathway of
the songbirds' garden kingdom.

How fair the child lilies,
a gathering of the guiltless,
in snow-white
First Holy Communion dresses
with lacy veils.
Seven year old springtime
girls with pearly rosaries,
betrothed to the benevolent
Lord in spirit.

They receive the purity of
the Communion wafer
representing His covenant,
they are His lilies of lucent light. ~

The Feast

oligarchy reigns supreme
enslaves the masses poor
the corpses queue in single file
by score and score and score
Gehennas gates of tyranny
scream and bark again
And once inside the truth revealed
 the iron will not bend
the Monarchs and the Kings, rotund
gather for the feast
and glut themselves upon the flesh
of the burden bearing beasts
Satiated, smiling
they lick their digits clean
and pizzle whip thier concubines
their slaves and diamond queans

White Lie

It began microscopic
An Insignificant detail
Once rolling, I couldn't stop it
A snowball tale from Hell

My conscious, very guilty
Ethic ducks are single file
But something white and filthy
Put my morality on trial

I try to pick the best of two evils
Stretch the scenario, pop them with truth
A pound of sugar or 2 wild bulls
Beat and bruised or an aching tooth

A rock and a hard place
A fib or a foe
Tried saving some face
Now watch my nose grow

Premium Member A Trail of Gray Mice

A trail of gray mice scoot around the perimeter of the living room
Staying close to their scout, hugging the walls as they turn corners
I feel their fear, but admire their single file line and their stealth
They stare at me. One turns and sticks her tongue out.
I assume she is a she; they are usually the most aggressive of most species.
I laugh and ask what they want for breakfast this morning.
Feisty one points to the peanut butter jar.
No surprise.
Same as yesterday.

Strong Feelings

Take the
feelings I have
for you and
look at them
a while

Stack them
up or leave
them there or
throw them in
a pile

You could
think of them
as soldier troops
and line them
single file

Or send
them off into
the field and
march them
several miles

You could
even put them
in a plane
and soar them
way up high

Then push
them out without
a chute, falling
from the
sky

But you
will see that
there is nothing
anyone can
do

To change
the fact that
I am filled
with endless
love for you

Defeated Released

I think today I am defeated.
I tried so hard.
Again.
The most this time..
Defeat brings with it nausea.
Release,
I'm not sure of.
I glimpsed it for a moment.
Its gone now.
Gave way to a threat of
Rejection from my stomach.
All I have left to reject my defeat with.
Like throwing the gun at the bad guy
When you're out of bullets.
Uninvited tears must wait
In line. Single file,
From here to the moon,
Until I have a soft place
To Fall.
Must get one of those...

Come Sit By Me

COME, SIT BY ME ( to Emily Dickinson)

 Emily--
    Come,
        Sit by me --

We’ll watch the singing chicks

Starlings searching --always searching on
Searching--hopping
                            through the plucky dawn

as the blue jumps from the sky--
We'll watch determined style

never stopping
always hopping

chirp in single file

There must be a lesson
in the birdlife that we see

Never finding what they seek
but happy as can be.

The Addict

Jesse Burns is warm and fed
Lies upon his mission bed

Hears the suffering, feels the pain
Men who can't turn back again

Slumbers deep amid the snores
Begger men and callous whores

Jesse dreads the morning light
Longs to crawl back into night

Forgot the fact he thrives on dope
Prays to God the will to cope

In single file the souls retreat
To Brave the cold out in the street

Another day on old Skidrow
Begging for a fix

Life goes on in Gastown
Where Jesse gets his fix
