Scissors

We are like a pair
of scissors: alone - useless
blades of solitude,
but together - Atropos'
shears cutting the thread of fate.

Earth Shall Nourish These Hands

The earth
Shall nourish
These hands
With grace
Upon this page
Then, turn these
Words into
Shears and plows
No more hunger
and
No more pain

Autum Beauty

Explosions of color,
bursting like flames,
icy blue seashores,
with curled foamy waves,
cool but not cold,
wind shears your face,
appreciative,
of this beautiful place.

All Not As It Appears

dust finally clears
         lies crestfallen amongst peers
               sunflowers worse fears
            nasty accident with shears
fraid not ~ fell into arrears

Vain Old Man Blues

A foot-long-strand-of-hair is one of my fears
So I sharpen and oil up my trimming shears
Ev'ry organ that senses
Gets pruned to the fences
Ain't no bird gonna' nest in THIS old man's ears....

What was THAT, Gramps

  Ancient arts so intriguing
    hieroglyphs, cave drawings

Stone flints at end of spears
two combined, a pair of shears

  Primitive though, their communication
the imperiled art of ~ conversation

Atropos

Shears, indifferent where the fibers led,
She wielded innocent of dread,
Cutting what her sisters fed.
Slicing each fragile thread,
Thickened puddles spread,
steaming and red,
As he bled,
In bed.
Dead.

Any Moment Now, It Will Come

The angel works the tollbooth
Exclaiming commands for change
They are a barber on the side
with faded tattoo arms
Holding shears made of fire
coated in silent pious rage
Hiding blood in their thermos
Waiting for a Judgement day

Rain

Each droplet is magical
Can you hear it?
Each droplet holds the truth
Can you see it?
Each droplet shows your fears
Can you smell it?
Each droplet shears your muse
Can you feel it?
Each droplet fills with love
Can you taste it?

Do Not Tell Me

I cut my hair and dyed it this morning.
On the way out of the bathroom I snipped another piece off.
My eagle-eyed-first-and-last-husband said “Don’t tell me you cut your hair with my kitchen shears.”
So I didn’t.
I just put them into the knife block.

Driven Fate

Wind, the Barber,
   shears the trees
   decisively
with naught but
   his own Fall design
   in mind,
Refusing imaged glass
   for his reluctant clientele,
insisting they trust
   his ancient artistry,
Born of a driven
   fate again
   and again.

Trump Bringing In the Shears

Trump Bringing In the Shears

Sure seems like and what it all appears,
Trump had been bringing in the sheers;
Kept cutting;
Head butting;
Our fears were everything disappears.

Jim Horn

While we will worry and everyone wreaths,
Caught Trump again stealing all the sheaves.

Butterflies

As this day slowly passes
Just like the years
As the wings of a butterfly
Sharper than shears
Cut through this jagged humid air
I realize its beauty is dangerous
But yet I still stare
As I count each beat
Slower than each before
It grows always and forever
More beautiful than before

A Little Off the Top

My baby girl
Has cut her hair
She found the shears
Just lying there

She is so proud
A great big grin
She’d cut it all
No doubt, again

I gotta say
I love this girl
But truth be told
I miss the curl

But when you’re two
All things are grand
Scissors for sure
When in your hand

One Hair On a Balding Man's Head

*spot poetry written in 15 minutes or less about any random subject

I am the hair on a balding man's head
not lying down but standing instead
Choosing to fight the battle alone
escaping the scissors, evading the comb
Keeping the faith down through the years
dodging the blade of the old barber's shears

Making Lights Minichu

A cage of sweet burning fire gold
Hung on night's swinging shears—
A golden flame still a twin so

In Orion's wordless mouth,
Its romance by dark christened
By rain; she's been cut out

Glisten
Chills in
Glimpses

A cage of sweet burning fire gold,
Its romance by dark christened,
Glimpses

Tutor

The cutting edge of Fall
Shears the leaves from trees,
Exposing them as ramrod tall
Soldiers soon to freeze.

These warriors of wood
Battle with the gale
Defiantly they’re braced, and should
Be, when Fall-winds wail.

Are we as brave as well?
How will we bear the burn
Of winter’s sleeted, bone-chilled hell?
Trees, help us learn.

Yard Work, Eternal Style

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the grass grows fast in heaven

and the weeds are never ending

the folks in wings and shears

are the ones who won't stop sinning

virtue has its merits the

rewards can be quite great

but there's something said for sin

conducted with a rake

toenail clippers wont do my nails

toe nail clipper? she asks. I laugh and scoff.
It’ll take a jackhammer to get these nails off.
They are thick, gristly, harder than a screw.
What about sheep shears? Asks my cousin Lou.

She does not have nails like these wretched claws.
I change the batteries in both of my chainsaws
It has to be done, all my socks have gigantic holes.
I reach for the first chainsaw whose battery glows.
