Barely Escaped

Barely escaped
as a bear
chased me down the hall
my eyes wide open
   for the rest
of the night

Bearing my soul
to the roar
of laughter…
seemed
uproariously serious
in the depths
of R.E.M.

From the Ledge

A rose bloomed.
A poem written in buds.
It offered its arms, illiterate to whats been written.
It fell asleep. A garden in thought.
Slipping from the ledge it grew.
In REM it whispered.
Wake me when we land.
For I will have acheived my dream

This That I Am

accept me for this that I am
show me all that we can be
forget that which belongs to yesterday
infuse all new memories

don't compare me to what you used to have
let me dream of you in my deepest rem
show me all I need to know
love me for this that I am

MYSTIC METAPHOR

The came to me
Again – last night
Those poems that I
Shall never write
They torment me
In light of day
Dance through my head
But never stay
Capture me
In deepest REM
Know I won’t
Be chasing them
Such purely
Mystic metaphor
Lost amid
A drooling snore

Rem Dreams

REM dreams rerun
	the Saturday morning
	Flash Gordons
	of my sub-conscience
	on the backs
	of my eyelids.

	The battle between
	good and evil,
	Flash versus Ming the Magnificent,
	continues unabated
	in the waking world,
	so I might as well
	go back to sleep.

When When Was

closing my eyes i
drunkenly wonder

why

for what may i dream
a dream beyond what i

am living

and yet she is so
colorful in clothes

hair and lips

but now i REM and
remember her as she

was

but every time i dream
her she is in black

and white

You are the path
you follow
it came from life
It came from Grace
Handed down
through
the human race
Spoken to
given to know
the difference is their own
minds sometimes
alone
With thoughts and dreams
Laid out
in a wrinkled line of REM
Left and right
 the two of them

Dawning On Me Slightly

Dawning on me slightly
is a twilight whose pinks are breathless
Leaning on me in a nurturing way

Dancing toward me now
is a forest faerie who seems rather restless
Preening with a satisfied grin

Dreaming in my rem state
I am in awe, amused and besotted
Loving the heaven of my imagination

Rem

We met so suddenly once in a dream,
I never know what they mean,
I knew you were real when you told me your name,
But like most dreams, I cannot remember.

A voice so familiar, yet never heard,
We'd hardly spoken a word,
But enough to spark, in our hearts, passion's flame,
As I woke by the cruel dying embers.

Rem

Rapid eye movement helps
               restore the dreaming mind,
         regenerating and
recharging its matter.
         Relax and prepare to
              recall subconscious realms,
                                          revisiting wonders.

Accounting

trying to
sleep counting
the proverbial fence
leaping endless rainbow

of sheep
passing time
tiredly trying to
induce slumber but

notice
as each
ovine leaps
the next has less

wool then
the one before
so forgetting about
REM now i need see

for sure
how nakedly
shorn if there is
a last one will be

Sleep

Sleep

Sleep, sleeping, to sleep. Deep sleep,
Need sleep, Rem sleep, Can’t sleep.
This precious function so essential
To the young seems elemental.
Longing for this simple need
This aging mind can only plead.
Just one sweet night in Neverland
This old girl would think it grand.
And zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

True Dreamer

Good thoughts fall away like hot melting ice,
When to REM succumbs the keeper of vice.
Awake resistance is easy to do,
But sleeping minds do not repeat the lie.
Open eyes show false what closed eyes show true,
And by day they smile and by night they cry.
When to REM succumbs the keeper of vice,
Good thoughts fall away like hot melting ice.

Dreams Within Dreams

I walked on stage.
Singing one of Cyndi Lauper's songs.
I sang a sweet melody, and everyone sang along.
My voice sounded sweet and strong.
I woke up from my slumber.
Realizing that it was just a dream.
I didn't hear my mother call me.
Telling me that it was time to go to school.
I decided to sleep a bit more.
Falling into that REM stage.

Dream Child Mode

Shh! Grandma cautioned her parents. She is in dream child mode.
The paisleys and oranges and polka dots are gearing up her dendrites.
Driving her REM to the world of magic, you need to let her be.
She’s an astral traveler, her Daddy said to Grandma. Nothing will wake her up.
Her dendrites were a rocket ship, blasting toward mystical imagination.

Sleepless Nights

Sleep, sleeping, to sleep. Deep sleep, Need sleep, Rem sleep, Can’t sleep. Longing for this simple need My tired mind can only plead. Just one long night in Neverland That sweet dream would be so grand The sheep counted are without number Still no sign of precious slumber At last exhaustion rules the day On a cloud of bliss I slip away...

Here We Go Again

One more day of disappointment
Troubled mind along with a heavy heart
Dreary pupils refusing to see clearly
The concept of sadness and sorrow are realized
Elevation is but a dream
The guided light seems miles away,
While trouble resides next door
REM sleep is the only form of satisfaction
Sleep is the patch work for an ongoing problem
Tomorrow, the cycle begins again

When Whales Dream

when whales dream

perpendicular in the singing sea
cradled in a swath of blue silk ebb and flow
oblivious to courting dolphins
cavorting and calling
as drunken sailors do
 on Saturday night leave

rem-membering across time
large thought plunging wild and free
or small delicate moments
of ghost like creatures
frilling through unimaginable deeps
perhaps lost long ago.

Insomniac

counting sheep, to get to sleep racing the sunrise Mr. Sandman, if you can sprinkle sand into my eyes jeepers creepers, open peepers wide as deep blue skies toss and turn, comfort concern no dreams or no lies R.E.M., I wonder when even in darks disguise insomniac, heart attack sleeping would be wise a wink, a nod, a sigh, a yawn still can't close my eyes

Left To Write

I read from left to right and
my prom date left to write.
That's what it said as I read
in the Knight.

Did we dye in the Hemi.Honey?
It's okay if we did and you know
it's not so bad as some show
'bout proms and dates unknown.

Were we speedy gone.wall.ace?
Break the air breaks scare us?
Punch the sucker on pucker?

Broke the shield with your fist
Said your mother.Love.not rem
but grew...

Slipping Sleeping Gently

Too elevated for sleeping
I crave agape' pleasure
Totally slipped up
Down I go
Tripping on dream steps
Each one with its own
Pleasure and pain
But good pain
Falling as in the season
Into you deeper
Ever closer to the bottom
REM, the flicker of it
Toggles between here and gone
With hands beyond, outside
Morbidity I grasp a melancholy melody
A still small voice of reality
You whisper " I love you, sleep good."

A Quick Cup

I see it in my dream
I see a steady blue light.
My REM force increases,
Then suddenly it ceases.

Blue light begins to blink.
Though twitching, I'm awake.
My mouth is dry, I cannot think.
Wobbly on my feet, I shake.

The kitchen comes to view.
Once there, I see it shining.
My coffee maker is new.
The steaming process is refining.

So uncomplicated! I don't need trig.
I am loving my new Keurig.

Rem State

Are we really here?
Or do we lie in R.E.M. state
and this is a dream.
One from which we will not wake
until we die within it.

Worse case, we are here
and this is our self made hell.
Just waiting to die.
When we do die, will we dream?
And if we dream, will we wake?

And when by chance we
do wake. Will we find out
what we fear was true?
We are but a figment of
someone's imagination

Nap-Dream

Nap-Dream
Out of Nap-Dream colours explode Purple! Pink! Blue-white-black! I stumble in and about my abode (in some other dimension of reality) and struggle in vain to pour coffee into mugs for inter-dimensional visitors. My brain seizes up in a sudden spasm of REM sleep... Waves shoot through mind-realm as I plunge blindly across the timeless book shelves of Nap-Dream.
