The Young Man of Nebraska
The Young Man of Nebraska

There was a young Man of Nebraska
Who rode an old Ass to Alaska
His quest was too bold
For he found it too cold

His Frozen Ass came back to Nebraska

Santa will come and we will joke.
Wearing our masks, as we are cautious folk.
Husband I will sit around the tree,
Imagining grandchildren, sitting on our knee.
A phone call may come in from Nebraska and Ohio.
Safely sheltered in place, in this land of ice and snow....

Premium Member An Iowan Takes On a Nebraskan Beef Eater
I will have my steak gruesomely rare.
Eating mine with Heinz 57 flare.
I am from I-O-WAY
I do not play.
I can eat a cow, a horse and a mare.

I am from Nebraska don’t you know?
You Iowans can brag, and you can blow
But here’s my rule
You little fool
I’ll eat whatever does not start to go....

Premium Member Two Sentinels In Winter
two sentinels in winter
watch the frozen wheat field
spy the evil murderer
dragging his innocent victim
Nebraska ground is frozen
two curious crows watch
studying the two-legged miscreant
he shouts his aggravation to the wind
innocent victim is nonmoving
left at the foot of the fence post
two sentinels feel relief
when evil scoundrel leaves...

Premium Member Nebraska Winter Is Anticipated
Nebraska has turned herself gray early this year
A desolate cornfield stands torn and disheveled
A cold front comes in from the north
She whips a few strands from the stalks
An anticipatory shiver goes through the field
An empty feeling of winter saturates the ground
Deer have decimated the last few corn kernels
Nebraska winters rival those in Michigan...

Premium Member White Mittens
Fog came early to Nebraska,
and slender churches became hidden.
Pastors came out of them with scarves,
their children tight-dressed
                       and with white mittens.

Cars moved slowly,
dipped beams constant; the radio turned on.
The fog came early - unawares.
