The Mailman and the Dog
When the dog poses a great threat
The mailman got very upset
He starts to growl loud
His breathe was real foul
Suddenly, he becomes the new pet...

lonely were his days
a ridiculous sameness
unfulfilled always

never volunteered

The Mailman
The whispers of The Mailman come staking you at night.
The whispers of The Mailman will steal from your delight.
The whispers of The Mailman will scare you half to death,
But read the letters of The Mailman? You'll hear your final breath....

Farewell To My Dog
silence when i open the door
silence when i close it again
no one to make a noisy fuss
no one to welcome me in
no one barks at the mailman
no one brings the little ball
no one chomps the squeaky toy
but love still comes to memories call...

Digger From Oyster Bay
Digger from Oyster Bay

There once was a digger from old Oyster Bay
Who did the right thing on a very wrong day
While taking a hike down a long winding trail
Saw his daughter and mailman delivering mail
Surprisingly on take your daughter to work day...

The Mailman Came Today
The Postman did deliver,
More than mail,
He delivered happiness,
And love, without fail,

I smile in racy, lacy thought,
Perhaps more,
Than I properly ought,

But what the hell,
They say,
You live but once
And, while I'm not sure
that's true,
This life I dedicate,
Just to you....

Speaking
He spoke to the mailman;
He spoke to the driver;
the delivery guy;
neighbor;
stranger......
He spoke to anyone he met,
asking them how they were doing,
or how they were feeling.
One person, though, he forgot to speak to;
he forgot to speak to himself,
and know how he was doing or feeling.......

Returned Valentine
haibun

her heart's overwhelmed
as her Valentine returns
from Afghanistan

In cahoots with the local mailman, Airman Louis Patrillos hides out-of-sight as the postman returns the special valentine his wife had sent him. Then quickly Lou appears, announcing, "Honey, I'm Home!" just as she bursts into tears....

All Night Epic
What I used to do all night,
Takes me now all night to do;
For what I knew was right,
Is now too late to do.

But doing what I used to,
May look as tho I might;
But I find that what I now do,
Is only sleep at night.

The mailman came and told me his
tale of woe in the first two lines so
I finished it....

Premium Member November Snapshots
Cold huddled sparrows
Wear that WTF look
A squirrel drags his tail
Through icy puddles
A rat hunkers down
Behind the barrels
Worms wiggle dance
In November’s no-fly zone
A wet Owl whispers “Phew”
School bus children
Defy the rain drops
A grouchy dog waits
For the mailman
An old woman’s scowl
Frightens the wind

                                   There's a new mailman
                          Who drives through our neighborhood
                                    This was his first day
                                  He hollered hello and waved
Today he brought more than the mail...

Premium Member Winter Rains
The rain sprays the doors and windows
The grounds soften, the leaves flap in the winds
The beginning I hope, the start of the winter
Books and movies the mailman walks through the
Breeze. My mind has been fired awake
But the avenue in the village is quiet and calm
The doors closed, the lamps on, the pets inside
Winter rains bring us a gentle time...

Magic Dog
Silly dog, happy dog,
Running through the lawn,
You’ll be barking at the mailman,
From nightfall until dawn.
Come back and drink some water,
You’re panting quite a bit,
I’m sure this water’s normal,
Wait, I’m not sure, is it?
Uh oh, something is happening,
You’re turning itty-bitty,
Your tail is long, your whiskers straight,
Now you’ve become a kitty!...

Premium Member A Good Samaritan
The mailman frowned at the black snarling cat
He picked up his sack and smacked the air with a bat
But my baby is in there! The mama cat said.
The next time he swatted, he almost hit her head.

A good Samaritan dog had seen what was what.
He ran out and helped the mother, his name was McFutt.
You are such a good guy! She said. I am Mrs. McNally.,
Then she told all the other cats to leave him alone in the alley....

If
If today was yesterday
would I rush to the mailbox 3 times
after the mailman went straight past?
If today was yesterday
would I trip as I ran to answer the phone
when it wasnt for me?
If today was yesterday
would I have sat alone in the dark
waiting for the doorbell to ring?
If today was yesterday
Would I have moped around all day
waiting and waiting?
Yes I would have, today is today
and I am still acting the same way...

Some Say
We who can
must write ourselves down,
send our words to no one
and everyone,
be the mailman and the mail box.

Some say little yet know much
but we who chatter, blab
and reveal
we must write upon this shifting sand
for all things will be undone
but not the scribing thoughts
of fools and poets.

Please tell me which are you?
A hard question
for we are most often both,

yet upon a sometime, we are touched
by the lips of God....

Premium Member Glory Won Mailbox Competition
When consulted, the mailman said,
"Sure, put a little daisy on the mailbox if you want."
So we all put on daisies.
Martha put one daisy.
I put up two, the girl down the street put on a marigold.

The mailboxes were now in a little competition.
One day we discovered Glory had bested us all.
Her mailbox was saturated in a bed of purple clematis.
The joke was on her.

She received this note “mail cannot be delivered due to bees
until removal of bush”....
