Turn Around We
Don't walk away and leave me here.
Come back and wipe away my tear.
You had just what it took.
You could have wrote the book.
You always got me back in gear....

A Second Beer
I had a second beer, oh dear,
But now I’ve made it home.
Yet what is very clear, I fear,
Is I can’t write a poem.

My brain is not in gear, so here
Is all that I’ve composed.
Whatever does appear, I fear’s
Ineptitude exposed....

What a Trip
To take that step,
To make that gamble,
To put your faith in gear.
To put your life on the line,
To grab your future with no fear.
What a trip!
What a high!
Let's take off!
Let's hit the sky!

My Mother
My eyes begin to tear as I look at this in a sort of fear
Your last year was not one of much good cheer
You fought to stay here as long as you could keep in gear
Just enough to hear we all loved and held you dear
Even though you'll be gone year after year
your love and memory we'll keep real near...

Premium Member Learning To Drive, Learning To Live
My father, teaching me to drive: the stick-shift car stalls crossing the thoroughfare - bus approaching from the left, 18-wheeler storming in from the right, I freak out and squawk, believing we are going to die. My dad is unfazed: "Don't panic, just drive. Put the car in gear and drive." Advice I still use.

Anike
Anike! oh! ao she cares!
Howshe makes me always wanna stand and stare!
the thought of her, it drys away my tears
takes away the fears
and infuses the freshness of the air.
though she came from the rear,
her kinda love puts things in gear,
 worked her up the stairs
and puts her in others glare.
waoh! what a wonderful pair!...

Logic
Whenever you feel life has not gone the way you would like.

What should you do to rectify the path?

Do you work a little harder to forge the way?

Save your troubles to think about another day?

When your head is clear and the weariness subsided?

Heart on cuff - head in gear, logic and clear!

Sleep,

No tear,

No tear,

No tear....

Oh No
come back, composure!
why'd you run away?
don't surrender to pressure
don't leave me in disarray
        get your ass back here
I ain't finished with you yet
        get your ass in gear
don't leave me alone to fret
composure, where have you gone
don't make me look for you
it's hard enough to go on
insanity's stuck to me like glue!...

Premium Member A Fox Crossed My Path
A fox crossed my path in the woods today
Trotting briskly on a leafy pathway
Of a sudden he jammed on his hind brakes
Sniffed air redolent of felled trees and clear lakes

I imagine he determined I wasn't a threat
The fox darted off; I broke out in a sweat...
Put my trusty wheelchair in gear in reverse
Rolled my way home, composing this verse...

Explaining Complaining
It’s easy to complain about
The things we cannot change
And those who don’t complain at all
I think are mighty strange.

Yet trying to improve our lot
Is often way too hard
So many just get stuck in gear,
The path to progress barred.

Not wanting to be viewed
As doing nothing, we maintain
That nothing really can be done
And therefore, we complain....

She taught him young how to walk,
But later he chose where to go.
She taught him his vocabulary,
But later he chose what to say.

She sang him a mother’s song,
But later he chose his own lyrics.
She even picked him out a spot in the choir,
But when he was older, he picked out the songs!

Life gives us an atlas and a compass,
But it is we who put our plans and live-in gear....

Thanksgiving is Here
The Christmas tree salesmen
Are back on the street
And “Happy Thanksgiving!”
Shout all that you meet.

TV’s are tuned in
To the Macy’s parade
And tables are set
For the feast that’s been made.

Pies and baked goodies
Are packed in the car
As people prepare
For their trips, near or far.

The sun’s shining brightly,
The wheels are in gear
For both traffic and family –
Thanksgiving is here!

A Respite
The sun is out, the sky is blue;
I’ve done the things I’ve needed to,
So I can sit and watch the flow
And how the river sparkles so.

I can’t stay long, but while I’m here,
Before I have to get in gear,
I’ll soak some rays, my mind serene,
As I enjoy this urban scene.

I’m rarely calm, so times like these,
With sunshine and a gentle breeze,
Provide a respite for my mind,
Where I can leave my stress behind.

Today
Today is what matters, today is now
Tomorrow is just a promise
Forgotten somehow

Today is the present
Get in gear and explore
Live out all your fantasies
For tomorrow may be just a bore

Today is this instance
Tomorrow can change in a flash
Grab life and air, big air
Share your love till it lasts

Today is for gain
Right now make the call
Say I am sorry or I love you!!
For tomorrow is just a promise
Forgotten somehow...

Premium Member Danger Is the Colour
The colour red makes you stop
thinking what can be wrong
it makes you hit the brake
as the tailback is so long

Red fills the heart in alarm
makes you think to fear
the conscience sets you off
your moral code gets in gear

A picture filled in red
gets your eye being so bright
holds your full attention
an artists impressionable sight

This colour speaks only a part
involves traffic, emotions and art
for they all effect your heart...

Parking Fine Valentine
Caution:
Do not attempt to remove yourself.
You have incurred the penalty
Of my undying devotion.
My heart and soul are clamped to yours.
Removal could mean a huge fine.
You are so fine, I find.
Get your engine in gear
And accompany me.
Give me ideas above my station.
You have been found
Obstructing my peace of mind.
I may just tow you home,
Bumper to bumper,
And let you park your chassis
Really close to mine.
My fine
Valentine....

Out of Gas
I’m staring at my notebook;
The page is lined but blank.
I’m like the driver with no map
Or gas within the tank.

I’ve got the engine started
But I have no place to go,
So I’m sitting here in neutral
With my spirits sinking low.

It doesn’t happen often
That my mind will not engage,
Yet my musings somehow managed
To get words upon the page.

It’s almost time for typing,
For what finally seems clear
Is that sometimes simply idling
Is enough to get in gear....

First Giggle
The radio was playing blues;
I danced and in my arms
My 3 month grandson focused on
Exuding all his charms.

But suddenly to my surprise
A brand-new trick emerged -
A flat-out giggle, loud and clear
And oh, my heart just surged.

He giggled then a bunch more times
So his intent was clear -
The music and the movement
Set his giggle track in gear.

I will not witness all his firsts
But this one was a thrill,
For laughter is a trait of which
I'll never get my fill....

Come Here, My Dear
Your freedom of choice, to rejoice.
Come here, my dear, and have no fear.
You got in gear, with no veneer,
I'm drawn to your magnetic voice.
It's clear, you're music in my ear.

My best intentions are noble,
inclined t'wards the climate I find.
Some warming could turn them global,
bear in mind that I am not blind.
Meanwhile, hands remain immobile;
my kind heart awaits, intertwined.

Premium Member Cheer
Say it louder I can not hear
Harsh words like a spear can bring fear
Cherish all those you hold dear
Wipe away their tear
Things are never as bad as they appear
Be of good cheer
As you put the car in gear
Leave the beer
Watch that deer
Just so we are clear
Your love I revere
Hope it is not just a veneer
Nor insincere
And love will persevere
Or reappear
And not simply disapear
And never veer
That dress is sheer
Hold the wheel and steer
Have no peer
Why do you leer...

On New Year's Day
Schools and many stores are closed;
Banks and barbers, too.
If you need to buy some stamps,
There’s nothing you can do.

Docs and dentists do not work;
The Market has no trades
And you may find a door that’s locked
At pool halls or arcades.

It’s a day for chilling out,
Relaxing in your home –
The perfect time to make some calls
Or read or write a poem.

For New Year’s Day’s the last hurrah
Before we’re back in gear.
The holiday is over, as
Tomorrow will make clear.
