Lone Snow Swan
swims ice-water,
graceful 
along river 
tinged by frost-banks.
Geese gather 
in a gaggle
on the sidelines
as the single swimmer
holds
the cold centre,
tension mounting
between snowscape
and water 
as the two
reconcile
into a
winter-water
peace-freeze....

The brook claps over the tumbled rock bed
applauding the Spring thaw 
like a gaggle of Irish revelers;
setting the man high marsh grass 
to dance a slip jig in the bonnie breeze.

Returning Canadian geese chorus overhead
saluting the rippling waves
in the slate gray pond.
The white undersides of their wings mimicking
the flashing and snapping of the white caps on the lake.

Time - the alchemist – turning my heart to stone.
Seldom do you pick up the phone.
Sitting here, without you, all alone.
Throughout the hours, my spirit  prone,
seeing not, what is reality ?,
that state, which is left to me,
residing in, left to be
nothing more, then what I see.

Life, colours have departed.
Left the gaggle of roses I started

With an empty bowl an owl may howl;
At drinking beer a deer may sneer;
Porcupine sometimes on pork may dine,
Or rabbit if they can’t break the habit.


I’ve  often seen a snake ache for cake
Or a crane in pain for  grain.
For pancakes a  crocodile will smile for a pile, 
For chaff a giraffe may laugh.


But if I was wanting  to eat  goose,
Standing here with my gun on the loose,
I’d be busy picking a gaggle  -
If  I wasn’t  already gagging for a pickle....
