already covering the yard
lonely Halloween night
firecrackers break the stillness
faint trails of fireworks linger
ready for the fourth
such loud angry fireworks
terrorizing dogs
pop pop bang bang bang
instilling ptsd
nightmare for soldiers
bright flower sparks
dazzle black tapestry...
wisps of smoke now

Citrus balloons fly
Toward those stars of glitter,
As painted fireworks
Splat upon sheets of paper
Soaked in the darkest of inks.
raining sparkler joy
white hot potassium glow.....
small hands know no fear

They are colossal, shiny...
But fleeting... and do not
come from heaven...
dogs and I sit on their porch
sniffing lilacs in the country air
relaxed, unhurried, unworried
