Up the Downside

As I climb the ladder I am going up the down side

Out Of Our Hands

A relative who used to be a good fit
Has evolved into something we must admit
Has a unique downside
Like a Jekyll and Hyde
Now if you give him a hand, it might get bit

Seeing Both Sides

Listen to poem:
Standing up, on top
straddling the seesaw
one foot on each side, now.
Whichever way I lean
sends the upside down
and the downside up.
Slippery slide
to the flip-side
is unworkable.
It's lunge, parry
riposte.

Upside Down and Downside Up

Upside down
and downside up
trucks come and go
and never stop
they swish and sway
the alligator way
hoping to play
so they can stay
Oh how they want
to be wild and free
so they can play the alligator way.

Downside Up of Confused World

nose started to see
                                 with feeling sense of smelling
                                      eyes started to smell
                                  with feeling sense of picture
                                down side up of confused world

The Downside of Not Voting

If you don't vote,
Extremists will take note,
And politicians will seek a different coloured coat,
As extremists become more eager to vote,
With your absence at the polling booth giving them hope,
That democracy will work in their favour,
And their words will be the only ones of note.

Drums 'n' Guitar

Tho' right-handed instruments the two do play yet one is downside up left-handed musicians both are they or seem to sup from a similar southpaw cup and if you follow the trail of crumbs they lead to Jimi the Starr of guitar and stick to Ringo the Hendrix of drums

Upside Down World Is What Our Eyes See

Just like a pin-hole camera's image
The image formed on our eye's retina
Is upside down and cock-eyed
But our brain's used to that,
And tricks us with reversion version
So what we think we see is flipped downside up reality
Our view is an illusion flipped up and flopped over
Sunny side up to go.

Skirting The Downside

Everybody
wants to go
to Heaven
(but)
Nobody
wants
to die

Everybody
want to change
the truth
(but)
Nobody
wants
to lie

Everybody
wants to bend
 the law
(but)
Nobody
wants
to get caught

Everybody
wants to fall
in love
(but)
Nobody
wants
— pain and loss

Upside To the Downside

There's often an upside to the downside
of taking the wrong fork in the road.
Everything you thought or were taught,
might be be for naught,
if you insist on doing things your way.
But.. you could rise above the fray.
Then doubters might say,
they helped pave the way
for the genius,
they claim,
was their friend.

Brewing

Each year, some slips away;
I’m just not that upset,
but I’m not that old yet,
if truth be told.

At some point down the road,
it maybe catches up;
for now I’ll pour a cup,
but not too bold.

Ideas still pour in;
I write them while they’re hot.
The downside of this thought:
my coffee’s cold.

Day's Sealed

~ Day's sealed ~

The sun's made its turn
   Farmer's chores almost done
It's afternoon's downside
   Kick back, stretch and yawn

Afternoon heat shimmers
   over cornstalks and hay
Nearing the end
   of another workday

Gather up some stray eggs
   Feed the cows one last meal
The shadows now long
   Come sunset ~ day's sealed

I Dare You

I DARE YOU

Meet me at the downside of the low valleys
If you aren't scared of adventure
Catch up with me at the peak of the hills
If you aren't lazy as I think.
Dive with me, let's pick the corals from the sea bed
If you can beat the fishes.
Pace up with me if you think u can
Let's hold the tail of the racing horse.
I dare you

To Appreciate Light

Do we really need darkness to appreciate light
  And see things done wrong to sense what is right

Must we experience hunger to savor a full belly
  We need not a flower to know something's smelly

We say upside down, but not 'downside up'
  Inside-out, not 'outside-in;' that's just made-up

The down here below helps us view what's above
  There dwells no hatred -- just endless LOVE

Downside Up Snowman

Lodged on a high valley in this far town
People like to turn the world upside down
In winter sky overturns
The snow cover children churn
Snowmen they make do something new on own.

A fat snowman comes to park downside up
Sniffing the frozen ground with red nose sharp
To stay straight head needs to strain
Blood from the legs goes to brain
Twig hands won’t help if he wants to stand up.

Lonely Lighthouse

Lighthouse calls to all Passing ships on the night waves; They speak without human voice. In past centuries, It once needed humans for Completing its only task; Now lonely lighthouse Cries out for companionship, But ships keep passing on by. Automation comes, And keeps on coming; humans Without jobs is its downside. Lonely lighthouse has No company to visit; Power is not everything.

Human

Have you looked in the mirror,
Have you seen some of the faults you put on others?
Do you see that you are not perfect,
Do you know who you truly are.
You see the downside to every one but you,
No looking at you'r faults.
Afraid to see that you are not who you thought you were.
Don't be scared though,
Some of the people you down are there.
They don't profile you,
They don't look at you as imperfect,
They look at you as they do themselves,
Human.

Stuck

Flat tire in the rain without a spare
    on the downside of the hill, rush hour,
        no one gives a flip
            new shoes

Fatal car accident on the way to be baptised

A look inside comes up empty

Cell phone inside locked car
    middle of the desert
        stuck in the sand
           3:00 a.m.  99°
              without water
                 barefoot
                    cactus
                       snakes

~~~
Without you.
Drowning
The downside to drinking is sinking,
a depression of grey and black,
there are no leaves on the trees,
they lay dormant by the gutterside.
Kids laughter morphs into a migraine,
ive not heard a bird sing for years,
unmanaged debt haunts me,
a happy face eludes me at every turn
the pain is tearing at my soul,
water pertudes from everywhere,
except my eyes,
i fail to recognise the man looking at me,
as i walk past the mirror shop,
Deep guzzaling breaths.....then drink.
All Inclusive Resorts
There's an upside to an All Inclusive Resort But there's also a downside to an All Inclusive Resort Young'uns are able to drink until they go blind Absolutely bonkers, losing all sense of reality Running amok into the wee small hours Staggering up and down the halls yelling Knocking on doors with no regard For us old folks or families with children I guess my age is showing BUT... What ever happened to respect for others!!! © Jack Ellison 2014
