A Cannonball On Fire
the
red tail hawk
shall
barrel through
the Breckenridge blue sky
like a cannonball on fire
thus
captures her prey
with desire
at the break of dawn...

Life
Life is like a public pool,
You can't tell if it's hot or cool.
It's best to just cannonball in, and to trust,
If you don't like the water at first, you'll adjust....

Grapeshot
I believe in commune ism
I am for giving in light of others failings
And I think
Words can be a whiff of grapeshot
Or a blind cannonball that won't spare one pillar for another...

I am Chet, the dancing frog, and my legs are keen!
I can jiggle a jig, and my cool moves are mean!
Probably the most agile guy you have ever seen!
Want to see my cannonball or my jumping bean?...

Premium Member Four Seasons In Haiku
Green sprouts from the earth
Life renews itself again-
The birds herald spring.

Lazy days of sun
Cannonball in the river-
Summer is most fun.

Leaves swirl in the wind
Mushrooms pop up everywhere-
Fall is on display.

Breath hangs in the air
White grass crunches underfoot-
Winter grips the land.

Premium Member The Goodness of a Pomegranate
Memories of years gone by
the fruit shop was our first call
that lovely redsome fruit
shaped like a cannonball

A pomegranate is its name
cut in half with a knife
showing those juicy red seeds
made your tongue come to life

This fruit bearing shrub
originates from Iran
has many health benefits
and is good for all of man

Premium Member (most of Life Is About Restraint)
You are a partner in time
(You are not the victim. You are the director.)
Moving along the corrugated line.
We must live in the heavens
(Love is everything.)
As the inner compass becomes your entire world.
But then there goes the cannonball.
(Oh, how you watch you move as cannonball!)
The mighty dense thought,
The fatal blow
Rushing along
The corrugated line....

Hope Is
Hope is the possibility
That you might overcome challenge
Hope is praying you might
Get first chair in band
Hope is getting up
On the stage and
Singing your heart out
Hope is that maybe
You aced the test
Hope is a cannonball
Into the pool
The day before competition
Begins
Hope is a smile
That someone might return
Hope is looking up
Over at him and maybe
He’ll look back
Hope is over when
He does
Then it’s triumph....

The Burt Reynolds
Time’s never obliged ~
Heedless, impetuous fame
Exacerbates traits…
But factitious facades fade
UV-rays on gelcoats, craze…

Retouch, unfinished ~
Tide oblivious, streams on
Rising and ebbing…
Eyes old smile recognition
Young ones urge explanation…

Names so soon obscure ~
Ocean sinking impetus
Leaves afloat, excerpts…
Darn! That cannonball race zipped!
Speedy generations flash…

Premium Member What If Heaven
What if Heaven….
is HELL….
The ultimate
gated
retirement community.
No “crazy” old neighbors
talking to their cats,
feeding their plastic flamingoes
styrofoam packing peanuts.
No music
unless downloaded
from a select play list,
no flags, no bumper stickers,
(unreadable wrinkled tattoos – OK).
No churches
if you’re here
you should know why.
Just forever smiling
angelic faces
aching
to drop a cannonball
into the pool.

Rivers Edge
The swimming hole is deserted
Except for an occasional
Brief stop for indigenous birds
on their way to the other shore.
The Tarzan rope hangs from the tree
Swaying slightly in the mild breeze
Above the dark shallow river
Where not long ago children played
And their laughter resonated
Loudest after each took their turn
Swinging out over the water
Ending with a cannonball splash;
But now these sweet, wet river brats-
God love them, all gone back to school....

Love of Art
Love of Art

You pick up your pencil
Start off with a dot.
Who knows where you'll go
From that small little spot.

Maybe a tall mountain?
Or a tiny fish in the sea?
A scenery of beauty ?
Or a funny looking tree?

Perhaps a little doodle
That makes no sense at all?
What about a great big ship
Shooting a cannonball?

There are no rights and wrongs
When it comes to the love of art.
Let it come through your emotions
Let it come straight from your heart....

Premium Member The Shadow of a Cannonball
I am the shadow of a cannonball.
I watch bees float from flower to flower,
While beyond the back of the shed
The good work of anyone awaits my attention.

Though--I know now one thing!
Twinkling into my orbit now,
The lost dog on the great plains,
The quivering flame beside the feverish man,

The surfaceless bottom,
Like squirt gun chases
I proclaim through a breeze:

If my brother's fiancee's son
Needs wispy and wild advice
This I will provide
As the shadow shifts past....
