My husband and I live in a birdhouse the woman said.
I was amused when I met her scrawny necked husband.
He was built like an ostrich with a rear that stuck out.
And long skinny legs, that reminded me of most birds.

rusty carcasses stand tall~
tales lost to the waves

the leafless tree stretch
birdhouse waddle in the breeze~
sanctuary high

beauteous full moon
shines brightly for us to see~

chilled birds find solace
kind heart, a thoughtful gesture~
incessant snow falls...

Winter has ended
It is the Spring season
Bird chirper sounds cheery
Empty bird houses filled
A mother sparrow 
Chooses a pink birdhouse
To nest her babies
The other birds busy

Gathering the twigs
Then they gather straw
For building their nests
Upon the highest branch
Being safe from danger
Oh-I am not certain
If i saw a red squirrel 
Entering the red birdhouse
Making a nest for her young...

sunk into cement -
an expensive birdhouse,
designed for Purple Martins.

Mister Bluebird sits
atop the house,
guarding, watching,
while his lady works,
building her nest.

His presence causes
the Purple Martins
to pass on by, seeking
another place to build.

Twelve compartments,
eleven of them empty
except for wisps of straw 
placed in each, warning -

this house is taken!...

The squirrel is searching
For a place to nest
One squirrel chased a bird
From the fenced birdhouse

The squirrel ate the eggs
A mother bird laid
Then when shew was done
The squirr4el got busy

She enlarged the hole
She made it bigger
Then the squirrel decided
To make another

Entrance to the house
She chewed a hole
Now for the side door
Making it larger

whose bony fingers
stretched above gloved branches,
you danced in the sunlight,
elegantly bowing
for scampering squirrels
and gifts of birdhouse rings.

Tree,
whose springtime blossoms
scattered petals
for make-believe weddings,
you caught up children
and hugged them tightly
in games of hide and seek.

Tree,
I run my fingers
along your weeping scars
where Earth’s fury tore
your hand from mine.
Splintered memories,
I have less air to breath....
