What killed Socrates.

What caused an end so dire?
The law or just satire?
The cries of ignorant crowds.

Journeys
You can travel to the pyramids.
Or Tutankhamen’s tomb.
Gaze upon the Parthenon.
In Athens, I presume.
Eat your lunch on Jungfraujoch.
Or Paris, for a start.
But nothing stirs the senses
Like journeys of the heart....

The Thief
THE THIEF
When you stole my bag in Athens
The VIO bag , smart and new,
How I wish I could see your face
When you pulled that zipper--
Expectant of a laptop
Instead you find
Paper--
Scribbled stories
Poetry
And my
Torah...

Oh, Boy!
The world is reeling:
Athens is up in flames,
Somali pirates in the high seas,
No leads to the Mumbai bombing,
Bailout plan did not pass Congress.
But the biggest news of them all -

A Greek soldier's fabled run

My Dreams
My dreams-shy buds-my darling
Praying incessantly
For
The shower of your kissess to come
For them to bloom Into
Astound realities!*

New Fashion House
A young lady from Athens,
Had strong designer passions,
She developed a boutique
Just for the chic,
Full of exquisite fashions.
The opening without any hitches,
She had created marketing riches,
But it literally all fell apart
Within the year's start,
As she continually dropped her stitches....

Shipwrecked
How dumb I was
when I danced into that
countryside floral
patched square of greenery
and
an expectation that was no more than a rogue wave,
tilted and uncanny as the solar eclipse,
washed me up like a dead seal
to your shore of lure and promise,
hot and heavy as a snowdrift,
then changed into
the finality of a shipwreck.
I was the aftermath of young parents,
who toured the ruins of Athens
before they hit thirty....

Stern Warning Vii
Our only protection against nature's wrath is the observance of God's law!
© Demetrios Trifiatis

* Yesterday, a devastating fire broke out around, Athens, Greece which devoured homes, cars, animals, forests but, fortunately, thanks to good planning by the state, no human life was lost. The temperatures of 45-46 degrees Celcius, contributed to the catastrophe. The fire has not been put
out yet!...

Soothsayer Reveals Athena
Goddess Athena is the guardian of Athens, the soothsayer said.
She is high-born in mythology, and exceedingly well-bred.
She has been protecting the citizens in a variety of ways.
And will be forever, until the end of all of our days.
Athena heard the soothsayer and rewarded her with money.
She also sent her barley, gemstones, wheat, rice, and honey.
The soothsayer sang Athena’s praises for the rest of her life.
With Athena around, Athens did not undergo very much strife....

Greece
Right now I’d be visiting Greece
If all travel did not simply cease
Seeing Athens and Crete
And, to me, such a treat –
Santorini, where stress would release.
I’ve seen pictures and all I can say
Is such beauty just blows me away.
Going there was a dream
But today it must seem
Like a scene from a movie or play.
Though I’ve heard of a virtual tour
As a way to long-distance explore
That has little appeal
Like a virtual meal
Which just teases and makes you want more....

Unique Greek
Born in Athens he was obviously Greek
However certain things made him unique
When it comes to cheese he hated feta
Said to me he prefers cheddar better
Unusual that he has never smashed a plate
I should know this because I'm his mate
Olive oil and lemons he does most detest
A unique Greek if you haven't already guessed
He's not into art, sculptures and such
Doesn't wave his arms about all that much
So in this poem I'm sure you can see
A most unique Greek this man is he...

Easy To Forget
MY GRANDFATHER AND I WERE GREAT FRIENDS, I LOVED
HIM VERY MUCH AND AS HE WAS A POET, AND I
FOLLOWED IN HIS FOOTSTEPS, I THOUGHT I WOULD POST
THIS POEM, AFTER ONE OF MY HOLIDAYS TO HIM IN GREECE.
I SENT HIM A LONG LOVING POEM THE NEXT DAY!
To my dearest grand-daughter Jennifer.
Since your cable of the eighteenth,
Your promise of writing to me has
Not as yet been met,
Should I take it, that it’s not a myth
That eyes not seeing easily forget?
Athens September 1970 Panos Stais...
