Self Explanatory Poems | Examples

Premium Member To Create My Story

My story need not involve a person’s glory
though I hope it will be interestingly oratory
and preferably self-explanatory
rather than overly expository.
To titillate my readers, I could even make it just a wee bit gory.

What are these Roman Africaaaaaaaaan?

May be guns are self-explanatory
    for already something is something
   or cute cutlass and one local farmer
    hoe or digger?
 or somehow a carpenter hammer
    or nail?.
  The reason may be still self-
  explanatory- can we only
    rely on contemporary or sometimes
   harking?, the west woke up
  in the morning and born
    the west said nothing except
   a passion for memory and joy
   how should we then smother and smother?.

Diamond Head Classic Christmas Day Championship

It took thirteen years to feel that glory,
like a cat on display under a hat.
Living a Dr. Seuss allegory,
feeling thrilled to be on the welcome mat.

In the hoop those fleeting seconds, that's all
it took thirteen years to feel that glory.
Cheers, JoVon McClanahan, for the end-all,
of shocked rival faces told the story.

SMU's defeat was self-explanatory,
their 57 to our 58.
It took thirteen years to feel that glory,
as jubilation made none hesitate.

Diamond Head Classic Hawaiian Airlines,
Rainbow Warriors clinch category.
Since its inception, a group of men shines,
it took thirteen years to feel that glory.

Future Me

Dear me,
   Surely this like any other letter I've written be forgotten and lost. But to you, you should know I truely put my heart into this letter. Because ya know I'm 18 so my writting is more developed compared to before.
   I hope nothing but the best for us. Finding joy in the Air Force. The future is bright. There's gonna be ups and downs but we obviously can face them. They ain't nothing to compared to what we been through. We got through wrestling like bro we placed 5th at state while only learned to wrestle for like 3 months.
   Currently I'm writhing this at college sitting with our friends Perez and Murillo.  Sharkcat and Raman. Should be pretty self explanatory haha. But to think this is gonna be over. Spending time with them.But life goes on we go on our own paths. But our friendship is better than our other ones.
   Well that's the end of this letter much love, hope, and excitement for us.

Sincerely yourself,

A New Poetry Form Created By Jane Dougherty Three Squared Free Spirits

FREE SPIRIT’S

walk down the road, wherever it leads
as free spirits, we sing to the trees
as free spirits, we do as we please

ease ourselves through many gaps
always alert, there are no perhaps
could cost us dearly, manmade traps

laps at the dew drops, many a deer
polluted earth, all living in fear
climate warming the heat doth us sear
~~~~~~~~~~~
Another new form created by Jane Dougherty ‘Three Squared’, self-explanatory this one, three stanzas, tercet, eah line 9 syllables long and mono rhymed as in AAA, BBB, CCC.
Well Within Sight
unrhymed quintets
Short-sighted sorts are better left unsaid;
but I’ll let you in on what I mean;
near-sighted neighbors are just plain nosy.
At close range they can read the bottom line.
Blind-sighted beings must guess at what's there.
Far-sighted folks focus on distance
and can see the buds on the trees
in the front yard from the back forty.
Short-sighted sorts, well I don't want to say;
Fore-sighted fellows can see ahead what is not.
Know-sighted kindred?  rudely arrogant
looking down their long noses at others.
You-sighted yahooes? they’re somewhat selfish.
Insighted icons claim they see through you;
short-sighted sorts?  self-explanatory.
Premium Member Gift of Life 2
maternal instincts
miraculously unique
precious gift of life
NOTE: According to fellow PoetrySoup member, Charles Henderson, "Haiku is a serious poem in that it is a true mental picture projected by one or more of the five natural senses.  It is considered Objective when written as though the writer were outside of the poem looking in. All the words are self explanatory, in the sense they are words which elicit a reaction in one or more of the reader's five senses, see, hear, touch, taste, smell. The reader has no other obligation in the poem. Only to read it and have one or more of those responses."
My original was revised with his help to make Lines 1 and 2 connect easier and to make poem objective. Haiku has 3 lines and 2 statements. I kept the 5-7-5 syllable count because I prefer that. I cannot thank Charles enough for his lessons and help.
Let Reason Take a Backseat
He looks for verification to put the pieces together,
He makes an account under all types of weather,
He adds up reactions, he studies the heart,
He is continuously constructed by using his smarts,
Until one day something came along that made no sense,
For the life of him he couldn't figure it out in his head,
He ripped it apart for days and days,
But who said it had to do with his brain,
He was deceiving himself the whole entire time,
Because it had nothing to do with What went on in his mind,
He thought so much, his heart forgot how to feel,
He was way to busy always analyzing what felt real,
Compassion and forgiveness always had a reason,
Justified through self explanatory seasons,
Missing the target, fear was capturing his mind,
Keeping him away from loving his life,
The only way to free himself from the chains that bind,
Was to let reason take a backseat and let love guide his life.
Snowball Affect
Lets tackle this now before it gets any bigger,
lets not disregard this as small before this garbage becomes litter,
some feelings may be the worst indicators of truth,
but lets be realistic, they affect what you do,
instead of turning your head to it, lets face it head on,
because if not, we give the misconception the right to go on,
it will lull and dull itself into reality,
and by the time you want to explain, it will be way past self-explanatory,
it will be one excuse on top of another,
and it won't take minutes to fix, but hours upon hours,
and then we sit back and wonder why,
with no honesty, there's no trust, and then the loyalty dies...
Petals
Use your tongue and spin enthrallation
to my eager heart that at once
does Not,
but – does hear.
Whisper grandiose gestures of love
grand sweeping actions of admiration
that do,
but – do Not happen.
Stare into my eyes and summon
all emotion you wish me to see
our souls – you say
are  (are Not)
connected forever.
Tell me how you burn in my presence
(kissing my neck)
and yearn in my absence.
Confide your inner most fears
with actors precision
and solitary conviction
that may,
or –may Not be true.
Express the wonder of a deep complex love,
Emotion that you cannot contain or restrain,
Experience you will live to remember,
which is true
but does not matter
You love yourself far more than I
which is true
and all that matters.
**(please note that I know enthrallation is not a word but I’ve decided I like and I’m keeping it, I feel its definition to be quite natural and self-explanatory)
Schizo
I've got a voice
Actually I've got two
They serenade the crevices of my brain
And tell me what to do
In one ear
We've got Mr. Nice
A misleading Name
With this guy, mercy won't suffice
Blood... guts
He lives for the gore
I just wish...no, I pray
That he wouldn't talk to me anymore
In the other ear
I hear Dr. Kill
Pretty Self Explanatory
This guy's mentally ill
His whisper's like that of an angel
His commands are inhumane
I can't live another day
With a mind so insane
For these voices
I've killed
Slurped the blood
That spilled
Danced with the corpses
While they decayed
Punctured my own skin
With a razor sharp blade
Stop talking to me!
I don't want to hear what you have to say
Never mind, I think I like it
Goddamn it! why am I this way
I beg for that third voice
But it hides
Cowers behind the shadows
Of the other guys
Please conscience
Come back to me
Why can't we be friends
Like we used to be
But that's my head
A soulless slaughter mill
A psychotic structure under the reign of
Two voices named Mr. Nice and Dr. Kill
Time
Time is a mystery
Phases of time, self-explanatory
The past is the time that "passed" us by
Mistakes we've made
Blessings we've received
All gone to remain in our memories
The present as explained by a kung-fu master
As a gift, so called the present
The future is a little foggy
That I must admit
But if I were to break it down
It would mean that there is still
Very much to learn
More fun to be had
And much more discoveries to be made
