                    Tortured by iniquity
          Captive of antiquity

RUNAWAY

[Verse 1]
He wore the tie like a hand-me-down,
Swore he'd make it big in some glass-wall town.
But his mind kept drifting to that red clay bend,
Where the river runs slow and the line don’t end.

The lights were bright, but they hurt his eyes,
And no skyline ever beat a Tuscaloosa sky.
He laughed on cue, played the part

the real runaway bride

The bride ran from the unconsummated ceremony weeping.
The best man had handed her a note; the groom was not coming.
He couldn’t have told her before the guests arrived?
Before she put on her gown and veil?
Before her daddy walked her down the aisle?

A track star, she was faster than anyone else.
She ran until she could run

runaway jeep

My jeep took over the driving today
Heard his radio sing,”hip hip hooray!”
How this happened I truly cannot say
But he snatched my keys and drove away

the end of day shuts down
the smell of rain
at 5 o'clock
with gusty winds
and withered leaves under my feet
newspapers whirling from empty parking lots
broken plastic bins rolling
a lonely dog in an alley
I wake up in my rented room
with dingy wallpaper
coffee is what I need
I toss my blanket
and lay there thinking
of a thousand awful images
then sitting on

runaway turbulence

suddenly my world got dark
and spun out of control
thrust in the eye of the storm
all i could see was you
and how i would find 
my way back to your arms

Runaway Dream

Out the window my dream go
Escaped from the clutches of self
Wandering the streets beggarly 
A holigan besmeared in slime and guts
Where is my dream? Where is the world I hoped to see myself?
Why is my world gray? Of what hope is me without my dream?
So I wake by dawn.
Armed with my knife and my gun.

She is all alone on the dirty streets downtown

In her bedroom, Shayla sits alone,

Her drawings scattered, her heart turned to stone.

She pulls off her glasses, a sigh escapes her lips,

"My whole life," she murmurs, "a maze I've slipped."

She waves her hand, a yearning, a pleading space.

A Cold Christmas Night

 

The snowflakes fall and it is cold,
and the bright Christmas lights flicker;
the beauty outside I behold,
as the snow falls colder, thicker.

Walking I gaze at a window,
the snowflakes fall and it is cold;
I stand at a closed store window,
and I curl up on the threshold.
