The contests started slowly
all in appreciation of Glenn Hughes
Only a few would enter
using inspired words so eloquently
But in due time the Glenn Hughes contests
caught on fire
and everyone was scrambling to enter
The contests filled up so quickly
I as judge had to breathe deeply
to concentrate
It came a time I didn’t have to remind people…
“Remember, we all love Glenn”
And then came the blogs
detailing the excitement of the chase
But people would cry
if they didn’t get first place
as the trophy was designated
for only the best Glenn Hughes inspired poem
Now if you have gotten this far in the poem
you may be asking yourself
What the heck did I just read?!?
You read Love for Glenn
The Voice of Rock
and about the poems and contests that support him
So without further ado
if you haven’t already
find a Glenn Hughes song that inspires you
and enter the latest contest
YouTube awaits you and maybe just maybe
Glenn will be watching
When peace reigned
In the year 1334 or so
the residents in Alhambra thought Catholic
chimed too early on Sundays
at the time, Granada was ruled by, The Muslims that went along fine with the Christians, who were good farmers and makers of wine
Not to forget, the Jewish population ( people of the book) kept the pecuniary in shape
it was agreed that the bells should not ring before seven, but the beautiful gardens behind tall walls
must be watered at five in the morning.
It was a peaceful time, but nothing in human history lasts forever; the Church of Rome had ambition, Muslims fled, and the Jews went into exile in Portugal and were shattered around the towns and villages and became a part of the
general population
So long ago, so far away
seems forever, we used to play
Imagination reigned supreme
You were Queen; I was King
We ruled our world with gentle hand
from highest mountain to desert sands
You headed East; I traveled West
Our greatest privilege, to grant requests
Where fled our Kingdom? Why were we deposed?
Imagination vibrant ~ now a withered rose

Anonymous whispers, blowing secrets,
softly blown air through lips, syllables
like sidelong glances down cafeteria tables,
avoid directness, avoid contact, see,
girls nearly women don’t speak of love in the same sentence as sex,
girls in tight jeans, hair slicked certain, lips rosebud red, tight,
mouths moving, practiced phrases of shared intimacies,
lowly blown secrets lying between each other, between the
legs of their lovers, fast fleeting moments of heated fluid,
banging winding paths toward popularity.
girls nearly women, see in me your truth, the ineffective no,
the bruised and unwhole, the wild youth
reigned in too early.
In my lair
I seized life by her hair
Cos I was fed up with the affair
In which folks went for broke
In harsh words and tones they spoke
Crushing my stark reality as they awoke
Feeling guilty
Cos stalking me became their utility
Frowning at the versatility
I took in my stride
As they plotted and slayed my pride
When without an iota of shame they took me for a ride
Assuming their insidious acts wouldn't boomerang
When calumny and salacious stories on their smart phones rang
With a boisterous bang and slang
To the past they couldn’t escape
Although through odious humble pie they scraped at the cape
Where teeming with sorrow in the lovescape
That consorted the folly
They flaunted when they taunted Polly
To delight rival Molly
Who by my side had stood
Resolute in a nasty neighbourhood
Where derided and misunderstood
I lay no claim
To the lair in which I played a fair game
With neither friends nor foes as I swallowed both blame and shame.
My dearest, if immortality reigned
Would you strive, strive and ask something more
No choice given, would you leave me pained
The things I think at night shake my very core
We shudder and shake as if our pasts wake
You're oh so sweet love, I do hope to keep
My love for you my dear will never be fake
I fear you may be of torn soul, you weep
Don't be afraid for I shall carry us both along
The immortal gift shall be our wild story
I tell you with true affection, we're strong
We together shall gain perfect glory
Among mortals, the immortal is born
We are the ones they say we're full of scorn
Like the tick and wine of the Clock
Like the Rising and Setting of the Sun
Rising from among the multitude
To disappear like the thickest of Clouds
But just for a while.
Yes! You Reigned
Surely the Oracle did Reign
But! That was yesterday
You Reign as if you will forever do
But just for a while
MJ You Reigned
Like the foreign goddess on stage
A god unknown to everyone
With unbelievable walks across the spotlight
But just for a while.
Our fathers Reigned
Our forefathers Reigned
But neither of them do today
Who will Reign forever?
Who can? Today and tomorrow.
Even the World they say
Don't last forever
Hence the wise note the saying
Make Hay while the Sun Shines
And take Rest while the Night lasts.

When you were here
I'd watch you sleep
While carving your
face on clay
Trying to capture
your perfection
As my heart
fluttered faster
with affection
Watching your breath
release
Never accepting
bitter defeat
That's when you were
here
You were here
Now your gone
I sleep in late
Time means nothing
Repetitive days can
wait
The sun can stay
sleeping
As the moon is my
friend
Silence the birds
Let the anguish
reign
My heart stopped
beating
Starved and just
living
Seeking happiness
from something
But life it means
nothing
Now that your gone
Your gone
When you were here
The world was our
playground
Laughter surrounded
Love reigned
When you were here
You were here
Now that your gone
I have to shake off
the cobwebs
Welcome the sun
Stand in its warmth
Block sweet memories
Keep them in tight
Now that your gone
Your gone
