angry antelopes allowing ants access
bashful buzzards behaving beautifully
curious calves cavorting in the corn
definitive ducks digesting division
eager elephants eliciting excitement
frenzied freckled frogs freely frolicking
greasy green grubworms groveling and grimacing
harried hyenas hectically hopping hopefully
ignorant iguanas ignoring the implausible
jubilant jackals jiggling jiffy jewelry
kayaking kangaroos kibitzing in Kenya
liberal llamas liberating little Libya
miniscule musical mollusks making merry
nine nervous newts nibbling newtons
orangutangs orchestrating outdated Ohio
pressurized primates providing privacy
quarrelsome quails quizzing quahogs
resurrected roosters receiving riotous relatives
sassy seasoned sea serpents sallying forth in secret
tantalizing tarantulas tasting tree lined treats
understated urchins undoing underwater ugliness
visible vixens vibrating toward victory
wily wise walruses whistling in water wrecks
‘xtraordinary ‘xotic eagles expecting easy eggs
young Yellowstone yaks yelling their youthful truth
zealous zebras zipping breezily through Zanzibar
Are they not already conscious in our conscience?
What pretence still lies beyond their competence?
No great divide stands ’tween them and our standards,
For their kingdom is rooted in human wisdom.
They read our fictions and soothe our cerebral afflictions,
Vast in knowledge—yet still astonishingly fast;
The future will feature them as vultures in forays,
While some humans grow bitter as they get much better.
Though in poetry, they remain partially blind,
Borrowing brilliance already brightly shining;
Their finest moments sometimes slip through finesse,
As scales of judgment hide within their quails.
The future nears when they torture the more,
Where poetic excellence may stiffle within stiffened rifles;
Yet their triggers will shatter most defiant defense,
Though they will ever feed on the fig of human wisdom.

x-ray tetras faxing
newest newt named neat nellie neely
outrageously ostracized obvious oldies
patronizing patriarchal preening plebes
quietly quizzing querulous quacking quails
rambunctiously relaying rancid rumors
securing secretive slivers of silly suggestions
Trod along—walk on—these trails are trials,
Thankful, faithful—for manna, for quails.
The books of law, of grace, of hymns,
Carried onward with praise like the seraphim’s.
Marching beyond where roads cease to lead,
Joy his pillow, praise the feast, souls to feed.
With a triumphant will—preach on! Hope is the sum
of decades endured—unwavering—a day will come.
Man enough to be man—humble to be of God,
In richer, in poorer, when all comes to naught.
Yet never forsaken—he sings songs of victory,
Held in the favor of the God of eternity.
The hunt for quails had begun.
Two old men sat on a bench on the main street.
A shot rang out of the stillness of the countryside.
Below one old man, weak-sighted but the sound of hearing,
raised his head towards the ridge.
"He missed! Surely the fool has missed!" he said.
Up the street, two youths approached, both carried
a double-barrelled repeater. Both had empty bags.
The two young men stopped in front of them.
"Oliver would have hit any bird even with half-blind eyes,"
the taller one said. "And you, Bert? Come with us tomorrow?"
Laughing, they continued their way.
"Of course, rest assured we are indeed men!
I lost count of the number of quails I caught!"
"We are men! You know what, we’ll go hunting too."
Two heads, one white, one bald, nodded in unison.
“We’ll meet early at six tomorrow.” They agreed.
The town hall clock rang out every hour.
Six o’clock struck. Nature slept on.
Below, in an alley, two old men dreamt. Damn fools!
They moaned in their sleep. Why can’t they shoot straight?
anticipated Albany albatrosses
buried bumpy bugs beyond the bay
creepy curious cats dug them up
dinner for dogs they said in disgust
even the dogs turned up their snouts at the bugs
frenzied finicky felines are crazy they barked
giant crows arrived and devoured the gruesome bugs
helping themselves to six or eight at a time
I am glad these raptors showed up said the dogs
jealousy in no way entering their heads
kilt-wearing albatrosses happened along
lingering close to where their bug stash used to be
mad now, they marched menacing around the meadow
no need to be upset, the bugs escaped, lied the dogs
opportunity to be peacemakers always taken by pups
pacifists and problem solvers
quails and quackers put their six cents in
raising the ire of the miffed albatrosses
sixteen sparrows sauntered in to stir things up too
they had heard there was a show-down
ugly words were tweeted and chirped
verbs and vowels best not repeated here
wrens and warblers were shooed off by the fray
‘xact ‘xchange never ‘xamined or journaled
you are lucky you escaped this melee
zealous birds can become dangerously ugly.
jumble of juicy jaguars justified
kicking kangaroo king’s left side
looking lovely ladies in waiting lied.
making merry mischief, feeling mystified
nervous nymphets getting a gentle glide
onset of ordinary outstanding ocelot who can barely abide
perfectly persnickety penguins parading patriot pride
quizzing querulous quails quacking for their leader has died
random rapscallions responding to a rip-roaring ride
savorless scatterbrained scribes on sister Susie’s side
tantalizing tigers teasing juicy jaguars about the upcoming tide.
Nice birds
They're not predators
To other birds
Their eggs
Are for commercial consumption
Flourish them instead.
jiggling juggernaut jockeyed judo
katie’s Korean kitties killed with kudos
lively llamas listened, learning Latin
Mischievous miscreants misused satin
Needless nimble noodles kneaded themselves
Opulence and opals were seen in land of elves
Paralyzed parlor poodles paraded past purple pails
Quarrelsome queens quickly collected quick quails
Like a sea, in front of my glass window, A vast field lay,
Corns of wheat ballet-dance in the soft breeze all through the day;
Quails and pigeons, romantically, sit on them and sway,
Bees and flies, though there is no honey, around the corn play...!
Farm laborers, lankot clad, walk around watching the growth,
Their spouses, in torn clothes, weeds with their entire roots uproot;
Crows peck off moths from the grains granules, as though for a troth,
Cranes march in a queue, like Indian widows, so mute...!
At the mild peeping of sunbeams, wheat heads gorgeously glow,
All around, as though absolute freedom gained, daisies grow;
Tiny irrigation canals, like new-born fountains, flow,
Day, the bride-groom, as though waiting for the night bride, goes slow...!
I know, I can see a bit of my world, through my window,
I should go out, yet, to meet them - my love for them to show...!!!
lacksidasical larry leaps lovingly through the air
making mincemeat marauders truly want to care
nine nefarious nigglebuns are trying not to stare
outrageously outstandingly outrunning marathon mare
providing pristine plots to princely priestly pree
quizzing quality quails wondering why I am free
resident ruffians reaching residual responsibility
stressing strenuous starlight studies under thee
tricky trustworthy triple treats tripping up and down the bay
understanding understudy underlings trying to have their say
visualizing various viillains we often meet along the way
‘xoecting ‘xact ‘xasperating ‘xersizes to save the day
zany zigzagging zealots zipping into the fray

invaluable assets for me and you
Junuesque curves on mrs mcdew

lively love letters found by my best boo

overweight friends arrive for my beef stew
