They say puzzles are good for your brain,
So to bolster those cells that remain
I do crosswords each day 
And on weekends, I may
Do acrostics or more in that vein.

All my challenges center, you’ll note,
Not on numbers, which might get my goat,
But on clues filled with words
Which, like grandkids and birds,
Are among those on whom I

     A puzzle’s like a riddle 
       You hope to be surprised

     But to solve a real-good riddle
       I often close my eyes

Spinning The Word Wheel

For useful words, the word wheel I will spin.
I anxiously wait for which words I’ll win.
How many sentences will they complete? 
Rhyming the end words will be quite a feat.

A noun or a verb, I commonly win,
While over and over I’ll spin and spin.
Adjectives, articles, pronouns for sure,
And other types to add to the allure.

Our differences are like the pieces of a puzzle called life.

Are two beings of any species perfectly the same?
Could the resemblance of a thing be its exactness too?
Isn't each creature a mini-universe in itself?
Each, by way of life, seems as though caged in a common zoo.

Puzzles Are Not Fun Now

Putting puzzles together used to be relaxing.
But now it is not nearly as much fun.
For I live with a grandfather who always hides the last piece.

We used to tolerate this behavior because he always appeared with it.
He has dementia now and forgets where he put it.
Thus, my puzzle-making days are over.

    As answers are sought.

At times what's lacking is abundant,
    And plentiful to complete.

I love puzzles…puzzles of any kind…jigsaws, crosswords, writing poems…any puzzle that stimulates my mind.

In a puzzle I can see the big picture as I search for the right piece…the right word…the right rhyme…while realizing the only way to complete the puzzle is one piece at a time.
