We were the USA all tried and true
red, white and blue in 1952
our archenemy, our nemesis was the USSR
we despised them
We were capitalism, they were communism
we kids knew that we needed to win the space race
there was much cheering for our astronauts
We thought we were ahead
Lots of propaganda said we were anyway
The Berlin Blockade and Cuban Missile Crisis were on the news
There were McCarthy trials for writers and actors in Hollywood
USA children were taught to despise the USSR
The USSR was our enemy; it was okay to hate them
We knew they were bad, even if we did not know how
The cold war did not include actual fighting
But it sure did include propaganda and espionage

The 3 People Powers
The shadows of the past haunted the Filipino people
Tyranny, corruption & unjust leadership they tried to topple…
First through People Power 1 against the dictator
Who suppressed democracy & became the nation's terror
Second through People Power 2 against the anomalous
Who displayed immorality & became outrageously scandalous
Third through People Power 3 against the opportunist
Who reigned unjustly & became a hideous terrorist
…Through this, the Filipinos can oust their highest leader
A peaceful revolution called “People Power”!

All powers belong to God
Those powers being abused
Belong to deceptive entity
Choice is greater than fate
For fate favors right choice
You choose good reap goodness
Rather go to pitfalls, behave
Why choose good karma instead
All good flowers wait for right time
Bloom properly and shine the most
Unexpected come surprises
Yet manage to show some reserves
Life grows where love abounds
In perfect time beauty surrounds.
A flame mounts high and bright,
A frightful dance it carves,
The dry woods starts to blaze,
A warmth against the cold,
My worn-out spirit glows.
Rain pours in a quick rush
Over stones, worn and grey,
It reflects the heavens
Washing off dust and pain
At close of a long day.
The flame cools down gently,
A dark and fading sweep,
The sizzle turns to steam,
The embers yearn to nap,
The heat within me wanes.
Fire spans the forest ground
Leaving ash, a grey dust,
Water seeks lowest spots,
Fulfilling divine trust
In every single flow.
Fire that consumes the trees,
Rain that fosters the hill,
Two opposing powers,
But meant with time to meet
To accomplish their tasks.
The spirit wants the fire
To burn away distress,
The soul yearns for water
To make the vision clear,
Each performing its role.
In truth, they don`t die out,
Each in part re-joins earth,
The embers mix with soil
That gives birth to new life,
An eternal cycle.
Rivers kiss the ocean
At end of their journey
To vaporise in air
And pour as rain again,
Nature`s endless circle.
