Truth On The Run

Forever wrong
but never in doubt
Truth on the run
the louder they shout

Facts never matter
they get in the way
With pontification
— the rule of the day

(The New Room: July, 2026)

Verses Eternal

Be in the moment
staying true to yourself
The stigma of others
but a tool in your belt
What trauma inspires
to forever beget
In verses eternal
— to never forget

(The New Room: July, 2026)

Muddy told me ...

“Try to sound like
your bacon
smells

“And keep the
kitchen
close where dwells

“Those words to fry
and sizzle
free

“Your nose
will know
— what eyes deceive”

JUSTICE RECLAIMED

Pontification
of injustice uprooted:
Justice echoing:-

Empty Barrels

Is most of your life spent
alone in the dark
Hiding from rainbows
in colorless spite
The sun waits a mistress
the evening a whore
That paid by the hour
exposes your blight

Professing in earnest
those things you don’t know
Whose pontification
a mask that conceals
What others see clearly
fate not to deceive
Delusion and bluster
—your folly revealed

(Dreamsleep: August, 2023)

Forked Tongues

Not lying outright
is far from the truth
Hesitance vacuous
barren of fruit

What never gets said
deceitfulness hides
Stalking and preying
while buried inside

The pulpit a soapbox
 lectern a mask
Pontification
deceptions bombast

Wittingly fervent
the devil subverts
False implication
—the ultimate hurt

(Dreamsleep: February, 2023)

A Threnody To the Tragedy In Owo

What a sad day it was on the fifth day of June
Death being so greedy visited Saint Francis in about noon
And a beautiful sunny day was thrown into shade
Man's wickedness to man makes my heart fade

For Nigeria, I'm tired of daily writing a dirge
But these recurrent events cause a verge of tears as we sit on the edge
Whether east or west we're covered with shame
But sadly our leaders run after fame

The tragedy in the land of Owo
Like others punctured our national honour
What's is left is a pontification
From a lack of good evaluation

Alas, I'm shattered as I mourn the dead
Maybe I should mourn Nigeria instead
The land of Owo was thrown into flood of tears
What score is ever worth a fellow's tears

I saw among those that have died
Some eminent people that had nowhere to hide
We're like lilacs or lilies that love to blossom
But this nation shades us with boredom

We live in the land of fury
Where we can't trust the jury
But I'm sure that the brains behind this continuous massacre
Will sooner face their negative karma

Camera Shy

8 or 9 dudes expecting at least 85 views/
Maybe a shot for the spot on the channel 5 news/
As he lay there imagining where his day went wrong/ with the only breath he has left cuz he won’t live long/
He’s wishing that he paid his child’s college fund in advance/
He understands that his chance won’t be great/
All these phones and no plans of an ambulance so it’s gone be late/
The wet amber veil distorts his vision of the patchwork quilt of baby mother cover/
Regrets of making amends and telling her how much he really loves her/
As he’s being shot from iphones from point blank range/
His brain strains to complain of pain and panic he desires to exchange/
There’s no words , adjective or verbs as he goes into shock , the numbness of the nerves/
Tragically he slides into silver slope of silent slumber, disappearing thoughts of his previous pontification/
He reaches his hand in his pocket, the natural response for the twitter notification/

The Fleeting Motherlode

High minded but low brow,
and living the contradiction
of a greater truth
I’m caught between transcendence
and pontification
my pockets ladened
with a traitor’s silver
—in search of gold

(Dreamsleep: December, 2021)

Poisoning the Well

We turn a deaf ear
as they live with the pain
of those who we cancel
with biting disdain

Unable to rise
above selfish intent
with opioid bias
our progeny bent

Pontification
colors the flow
young ears once thought distant
to reap what we sow

The world as we leave it
our tracks in the sand
forever to haunt us
—as children disband

The air is thick with words.
They flutter and beat
About my ears
Like a thousand moths.
A proliferation of pontification
And pedantic pomposities
Numbs my mind
And muddles my thoughts.
Details, details, details!
Minute subtleties and
Nuances confuse, confound.
I feel the urge to shout,
“Simple! Keep it simple!
Give up the cluttered verbiage!
Give us advantages,
Disadvantages,
The points we need
To make a decision!”
The words retreat into
A hum of beating wings.
I smile vacantly
And think of something else!

Sententiousness I seriously cannot bear
I cannot abide po-faced pontification
Faced with which I want to pull out my hair
Being more at home in a festive occasion.

Flee the pessimism of the puritan's pulpit
There is more merriment found in carpe diem
When Falstaffian rogues with us carousing sit.
Send cold gravity to its chilling requiem

If you were given the news your end were nigh
No Cromwell roundhead,more cavalier Dartagnan
What better way to go,do you think,,laugh or cry?
Give me every day a mirthful companion.

So haste ye away, you gloomy prophets of doom
And allow us imbibe in a jovial room

Vanity's Ghost

The narcissism
  of small differences…

The egos crown
  of thorns

The sharper each
  individual barb

The more frequently
  it’s worn

A grand
  pontification

Whose wind
  blows just one way

Into the face of
  vanity’s ghost

In jealous
  —disarray

Never To Rest

I’m a Poet….
don’t try to trap me with words
or with logic you don’t understand

With your barrister’s training
  you’re out of your league
  this arena beyond your command

In some ways
  I’ve already said it all
but never in the form you approve

Or with comforting platitudes
  lining your shell
  as pontification behooves

The slick easy answers
  unfit for a Sage
but the pundit and liars attest

My message as spoken
  comes at great cost
    —your conscience never to rest

(Villanova Pennsylvania: March, 2018)
