Of course I do
You know it's true
I'm trying hard
To not tell you
Every time
In every rhyme
The effort's been
An uphill climb
I like to write
Most every night
Sometimes until
Dawns first light
My thoughts abloom
To edit, groom
Until they're ready
To consume
Small bouquets
Of poem sprays
Scented words
To start your days
I hope you find
A different kind
Of poem here
I love your mind
I would pack my dogs into the car
It might take ten minutes to get the puppy in
He is stronger than both of us
And he despises the car
If there is extra time I would take a few canvases,
A twenty-four pack of acrylic paints, ten paint brushes,
Three or four bowls – to feed the dogs and to wash out the brushes
I would also take cozy blankets and pillows
Our dogs like to be comfortable
A fifty-pound bag of dog food would go up front
My purse, my husband’s wallet, and a can of pork and beans.
The kind with a pop tab; I love beans.
Mitzy who retired the same day as me said
“One of my parents gave me two hundred dollars.”
“Great!” I replied
“Another gave me a hundred.”
This makes sense. She is a really terrific second grade teacher.
“And then, of course, we got the two hundred dollars from the PTA.”
I am sure she would not have mentioned this
if
she
had
known
that
we
was
only
she.

To The North Pole Of Course (Part Two)
The farmlands, bridges and countrysides woosh by in a rush
then vanish before my eyes at a hundred and twenty six miles per hour.
My mind is traveling at the speed of Donner and Blitzen. It goes through a magical hourglass only to nestle inside a cinnamon scented wagon that is infused with the clanking of fine china cups. A peppery scent of hot chocolate perfumes the air and lands on my palate, sweetly.
While I am being ushered forth into Christmas, I sift through time, backpedaling swifter than Santa's mistletoe kiss.
I hear his rippling laughter and melt like butter.
My extra sensory perception picks up the echoes through the halls of my memory
and I say to myself, " I think I'm going home, to the North Pole of course."
Of course your name is Joseph I told the sheep.
He had not read the Bible.
He did not understand the humor in this.
Because your robe is decorated in many colors.
He spoke broken English.
By the time I had finished, he was more confused than ever.
And I remembered why I try to never speak to sheep.
a filly
prances about, acts silly;
definitely not a mare
there.
in pasture,
a great joy to run faster;
it’s fun to watch a young colt
bolt.
a hallion
grows up, becomes a stallion.
rascal equine as a child:
wild.
a pony
pretending, never phony,
but in essence, of course:
horse.
----------
a strange form: 3a/7a/7b/1b, with 2-syllable a-rhymes
the name is actually Deibide Baise Fri Toin, and I have no
idea where that comes from
a 'hallion' is a rascal
Would I dance in the rain with you?
Of course!
And, we’d have fun.
Would I walk through any storm with you?
Of course!
Until we see the sun.
Would I hold you when you’re frightened?
Of course!
To help you face your fears,
Would I share in your adventures?
Of course!
Throughout all the coming years.
Would I support you in your endeavours?
Of course!
I would be your biggest fan.
Would I cheer you up when you’re down?
Of course!
In the only way I know I can.
Would I pick you up when you fall?
Of course!
I would be your strength.
Would I stand up for you?
Of course!
For you, I would go to any length.
Would I offer you words of comfort?
Of course!
Long into the night.
Would I lead you in the right direction?
Of course!
I would be your guiding light.
Would I take a walk in your shoes?
Of course!
For you, there I will always be.
Would I do all of this?
Of course!
Because, you mean the world to me.
the timing's always wrong
so i press the mute button
and keep the silence to myself
believing nobody's interested
convinced nobody cares
what's deep within the well
will stay there for eternity
unless of course... i write my poetry
and cast it to the winds

poisonous of course
rattlesnake rock and roll
snake slithers off
The hallways are filled with excitement
Our students are “off the chain” because it is Friday.
Wait! It is not Friday. It is Wednesday.
They are loud and proud, crazy loud.
We teachers cringe, wondering how they will behave on Friday
If this is only Wednesday.
Anyway, this teacher is cringing.
I cannot speak for the others of course.
But they do not have lunch duties with these
wild, loud, spinning tops in nine minutes.
A sudden glance
A happen stance
Hidden paths
To hearts romance
Collective spark
A cherish heart
I love you long and short
Darling, you’re my mine of course
A missing lot
Hearts to beat a pulse
Holding on the hope
Love is not lost, (no, no not lost)
But in due time
You’ll find me yet here, my dear
A cherish heart
I love you long and short
Darling, you’re my mine all mine of course
You’ve been mine since our separate births
A sudden glance
A happen stance
Hidden paths
To hearts romance
Collective spark
A cherish heart
I love you long and short
Darling, you’re my mine of course

Written words by James Edward Lee Sr. 2021©
We may slip back into our sinner role
And forget that He has our back
We get impatient and want our way now
Forgetting we are not in charge
He holds us in His hand during the day, and every evening
He has the sparrow, the bee, the flower, the tree, and us
He gives us free will, but His will takes precedence
He loves us, unconditionally, no matter what we do or say
We need to let go and let God.
Recognizing that He has the sparrow
And He has us. He uplifts, replenishes and inspires.
We need to let go and let God do what He needs to do.
Yes, I do have a black tie he said
He showed up with it stuck to his head
His wife was not classy
Her gown was quite trashy
They were escorted to the flower bed
The next couple was luckier than that
They brought along a dog and a cat
hidden in their coats
Were put onto tugboats
Tossed out to sea past the graveyard flat
Stupified I stare transfixed
The transmogrified beast stares at my mouth
He has my husband’s hazel eyes with gold flecks
He puts out his right claw. It is hoof like, gnarly.
I hesitate forty seconds too long
The beast flashes disappointment
With a howl he lopes off into the night.
I feel something hit me hard in the chest.
I gasp. My eyes flutter. I turn to look at my husband.
He is not there.
