Premium Member A Smily Spring Face

In my neck of the woods,
Old Man Winter came with a bang
And stayed as long as she could,
Which fortunately was not very long.

She strutted across the delta, leaving
Enough ice to break trees and power
Lines. After some 8 days and nights,
It warmed up, and we were fine. Thanks
Be to God and a little help from friends
Who loaned us a generator. The silence
Disappeared but we were kept safe and warm.

I think that the bees, hornets, and wasps
Were confused about Nature's way, and we
Were not amused by their annoying ways.
Someone needs to tell them, "It's too early".

Anyway, Spring has just arrived officially;
And I am very impressed with all the budding
That I see, especially the thriving peach tree.
The pear and pecan trees appear to be waving
To me. I return a wave with a smily spring face.
The peach tree is no spring chicken, but she's
Alive and well, preparing us sweet summer fruit.

Misunderstandings

I had a lot of time to think. If you ask what about; the list consists of a few page…. Is there really anything that I can say, that’ll make you want to return my call or send a hay?
See that’s for horses and it’s been a ride. I’ve finally picked apart my own thoughts and put my pride aside. You were right, and I was wrong. I should’ve been nicer, you had good intentions all along. I guess it didn’t feel that way from where I stood. Truly an enigma, in my bed lies misunderstood.
I’m far from okay and about three blocks from good. I ponder over things that lead me to your neck of the woods. Labeled trespass. I trust past…events where all things are fine.
I wonder if the thought of me could ever cross your eyes. As I dot my tees and close my mind. I see no evil but I hear your cries.
Losing hope. Side effect of losing who? You were always what I meant to C. A lot of things led me back to where’d you B. Everything about this got me scrambled up. I fail to touch…Apart of your soul that’ll see this time isolated was fair enough. You’ve had it rough.

Olden Day Were the Best

O-lden days were the best
L-iving in a shack
D-ad would come home and split wood
E-very day
N-ever missing a whack

D-airy treats came on the weekends
A-long the way to grandmas
Y-early camping was always fun. When we went with grandpa

W-e as kids would play all day,
E-verything from hide in seek to tag
R-unning around saying tag your it
E-ven Listening to our mothers nag

T-icks didnt exist in our neck of the woods or at least not like today
H-ay wed play in for hours
E-ven on them soggy days, when mother nature gave us showers

B-eing a kid was fun back then But
E-verything went by
S-o fast If only i could go back one more
T-ime id try to make it last!!!!!!

Novice, Still Am I

Still a novice,
pushed into world of avarice.
Hearts gilded with greed,
beautifully masked faces, so sweet indeed!
Faces elated under twinkling night,
welcoming your journey,
in the corner, plotting,
cruel indeed!
Smiling lips, Scintillating eyes,
feeding on your sorrows to survive.

Still a tyro,
struggling to thrive.
Anima ingrained with misdeed,
charmingly masked malice, sugary indeed!
Faces basking under scorching sun,
congratulating on your success,
in the neck of the woods, conspiring,
callous indeed!
Dancing body, singing voice,
waiting for your sorrow to arrive!

Premium Member A Fox In Concrete Jungle

A red fox suddenly creeps
out of hiding in Rick's shed,
startling him...

"Whoa! Aren't you a fish out of water, sly one?," he asks

The fox freezes for a second,
confused by the question.

Rick fires off two more...

"So, what brings you to my neck of the woods?"

"Are you headed back to the wild?

And what did the fox say back, you wonder?
Nothing.

It snarled at Rick and slinked away
in a huff, furious...
it was called a "fish"

Premium Member Come Get Me I Am Ready

Give me that old time loving, that old time loving, that old time loving
What is the old bat singing?
Good grief!
Doesn’t she realize I am not dead yet?

Still here. Breathing in my shallow way. Wishing for a quicker death.
Alzheimer’s makes me so damned angry.
Old time loving in this neck of the woods means the one that got away.
I wish I’d got away.
I never got away.

And now I’m dying, dreaming of the one that actually did get away.
Ah, her hair. Her eyes. Her smile. She was something!
But she ran off with that Johnson boy,
So here I am stuck with Do Do Breath.

“Give me that old time loving, that old time loving, that old time….”
I shut my eyes real tight, remembering the one that got away
My true love.

This woman I’ve been stuck with for fifty-seven years.
She’s nothing to me.
Come get me Alzheimer’s. I’m ready!

Anatomy Down

By a HAIR, the bullet misses
There's more than meets the EYE today
But the river's MOUTH is too wide,
My NECK of the woods far away

The weariness hard to SHOULDER
This BODY of water my bane
No where to go, with heaving CHEST
Hard to STOMACH the fear and pain

The rifle BUTT again is raised
This last LEG of my life, ends here
My KNEE jerk reaction to cry out,
At the FOOT of one who kills us deer!

Premium Member Hidden Secret Me

I am a cold, flat, black and white rectangle, rounded corners, no frills or curls.
No one could revere me more that thirteen-year-old higher thinking boys and girls,
Illustrious readers of U.F.O.’s, the paranormals, and E.S.P.
Ones who question their clari-normal selves, always seek out proof of life from me.

The absolute best environment ambiance for my most effective use is set up gypsy-like, cushy, and cozy.
Soft pillows, wavering candle making spooky shadows, smelling of lilac or equally wonderful well-loved posey.
The room should be relatively unlit, but you have to see my alphabet and numbers.
The hidden entities can make themselves known through whispers, or smells, not loudness or lumbers.

My beige heart-window pointer messages are often disjointed or a hundred percent totally misread.
Uh-oh. Here comes your mom. Everybody, move! Blow out the candle, and hide me quickly under the bed.
I may be a big deal at your pre-teen’s life’s point, but in your neck of the woods, parents see me and go immediately red.
I’m contraband, against their religion; except for Lazareth, they never want to know about the eager to be heard undead.

Premium Member Necking

In this neck of the woods, necking is popular
Now that'a not unusual, sometimes use binoculars
To get some advice
On using a devise
To increase the screaming, exciting one's twaddler

A Neck of the Woods

A Neck of the Woods

A neck of the woods;
Where a person likes to live,
And also out neck.

Manchester Man

Never met this guy, he's a facebook friend,
He reads the posts I sometimes send,
From my old neck of the woods,
From stories he tells he has done the goods.
Older than me by a mere ten years,
But we have shared both laughter and tears.
Our childhood memories seem to collide,
The truth will out we have nowt to hide.
Growing up we have both done and seen,
Very alike me and John Nadene.
Like me he writes about days gone by,
Some for a laugh some for a cry.
I seem to fall into the same plot,
Telling about the family that was my lot.
We grew up streetwise 'cos that's where we played,
Sometimes looking back, I wish I had stayed.
I found going back a huge mistake to face,
The memory I had, long gone from the place.
So now I write about what it was like as a kid
The truth that we enjoyed and lived as we did.
Now with memory clear, I can look back down the years,
We did OK, we had nowt to do but cast off our fears.

Full Moon Over Werewolf

Full moon in the sky, curse of the werewolf on the rise
And the poison runs through his veins and then
The man becomes the beast once again...
FULL MOON OVER WEREWOLF going in for the kill
Tearing through the mountains and hills, on the heels
Of his next bloody meal, all the stories you've heard
Are true, so please don't go out tonight if you don't
Have to if you value your life 'cuz there is a FULL
MOON OVER A WEREWOLF tonight...
And across the country side you can hear the
Tormented howling, let that be a warning for the
Curse of the werewolf can happen to almost anyone
In any neck of the woods, I sure would hate to
See it happen to you...
Evil comes in many forms and this one is the Devil's
Pet, FULL MOON OVER WEREWOLF hungry and
Starving to death...
Full moon in the sky, curse of the werewolf on the
Rise!

Add More Fizz By Taking a Quiz

Add More Fizz By Taking a Quiz

Why not to your life try to add more fizz
By breaking a balloon that became a pop quiz
Then right after that taking a short hop
To what eventually became a Mom and Pop Shop.

Shop was full of poems we have just heard
From mostly mundane to the completely absurd
(Sounds like my neck of the woods)
They even have thrown in some Bible verses
Which said best choir is one that rehearses.

So instead of becoming much more belligerent
Or insurgent locked into rules that are stringent
We here believe in equality of all the races
Hope Texas will lend us some wide open spaces.

The Scorpion King-Part Two

(CONTINUED)

THEN ONE DAY THE KINGDOM REALIZED THE LIES OF THE SCORPION KING
IT WAS ALMOST TOO LATE AS THE LIVES OF MILLIONS WERE BEING
DESTROYED
HE STOMPED HIS GNARLY FEET AND SNORTED A LOUD SNORT
“SURELY I WILL WIN THIS BATTLE!” HE THOUGHT TO HIS LONELY SELF

THEN THE EARTHWORM CAME BACK TO SAVE THE DAY!
HE ARRIVED WITH A MILLION OTHER WORMS
HE DEVISED A SYSTEM OF TUNNELS AND CAVERNS BENEATH THE GROUND
AND THEN THE INSECT KINGDOM WAS ALLOWED TO ESCAPE
THEY BURROWED AND THEY BURROWED AND THEY BURROWED
UNTIL THEY ALL REACHED THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD
THIS WAS A LAND OF PROMISE AND FREEDOM
A LAND WHERE LOVE RULED THE DAY

IF YOU EVER HEAR OF A SCORPION KING IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS
SIMPLY HUNT HIM DOWN AND SMASH HIM WITH YOUR FEET!
HE IS THE EXACT REPLICA OF SATAN AND HIS MINIONS
HE IS THE LOWEST LOW LIFE AROUND…
HE IS BENEATH OUR FEET!

JUST USING A LITTLE METAPHOR TO EXPLAIN THE PREDICAMENT THE EARTH
IS IN AT THIS TIME. I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS LITTLE FABLE.

GOD BLESS THE EARTH! GOD BLESS THE EARTHWORMS TOO!

Walking In the Rain

be it london, nyc, paris or
your own neck of the woods
paved with the memories of
many before (whilst many will follow after you),
a private jaunt
just when it begins to come down
(not cats & dogs yet
but that spit rain that reminds you that the storm just might be
coming),
can allow the mind to wander &
as the pavement starts to take a pounding,
you can finally appreciate the surroundings---
the crowds scurrying, the puddles forming &
the umbrellas painting a nylon sheath o’er our heads---
the graying of the cityscape makes for
emotional evenings that illuminate feelings that might have been
hidden in the shadows of the sun,
as the exodus from the parks & the streets
sends people flocking to the restaurants, the cafés & the movie theatres,
so that together
they can bask in the glory of
what those festering in sunny california or heatstroke prone miami
may never encounter quite the same.
