Premium Member Does the speed of Time vary ???

Sit and watch a kettle boil
time goes slowly by
Divert attention for a second
and the kettle has run dry

When young and there's expectation waiting for a birthday celebration
time passes slowly, days are long and very drawn
But when decades of maturity fills the urn, there's lesser time between those celebratory days
it doesn't seem so long since the days that one was born

When one is very young around the age of six or ten
all the eighteen year old youth, appear as very mature adult men
And now the coin has flipped, with eighty not too far away, girls of age, seen as early to mid twenties
they are often, somewhere around early forties, mature aged women

And now a self posed question? Would we have the same time perception
with all this artificial human time, milliseconds, seconds, minutes,
hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, millenniums
Does all this time segmentation somehow promote deception ??

Premium Member Learning

I’m learning a lot, dating Peter. For instance, I have a whole new awareness of how clueless older Americans, like people in their mid-twenties, are about things in the modern world.

I think Peter’s learning things too. Like the other night, I was 30 minutes late because I was gluing little, glittering rhinestones to my eyebrows. Was he mad? Yes, we had a little drama, but that’s just because he hasn’t learned to respect my lifestyle choices.

“Don’t be mawkish Peter,” I softly advised him, while fixing the caller of his shirt, “look, let's just pretend that we squabbled over this, and I won?” I suggested, helpfully. “It’ll save us time and WOW, we’re running late, OK? Seeing some small, lingering irritation, I promised, “We can still makeup later.”

The rhinestones looked spectacular, I got a LOT of compliments and in the end, I think he liked them. You know, sometimes I’ll catch him looking at me, like the moon or something, like I’m out of reach.

Guys are so.. (Searching for a word).

mawkish = exaggeratedly or childishly over-emotional.

Premium Member Only God Knows the Answer - Isaiah 57: 1-2

God knows the future from its beginning
His eyes see all things in His sight
nothing is hidden from our creator
who works always perfectly right

I was married in my mid-twenties
to a lovely Christian girl Jean
her witness to me really changed me
giving me a bible to make me clean

Through Jean's influence upon me
answering my questions on scripture
pointed me in the way to God
learning much along this road to endure

Jean and I wed in November '81
but Jean's health had not been good
for a number of years been a struggle
this causes thoughts so misunderstood

But things got worse needing an op
which was successful thinking all's great
but the illness came back again
leaving Jean in an unhealthy state

Jean died in October 1982
at 28 she had only a few years
God is sovereign in all He does
we must bow before Him in godly fear

("The righteous man perishes,
    and no one lays it to heart;
devout men are taken away,
    while no one understands.
For the righteous man is taken away from calamity;
     he enters into peace;
they rest in their beds
    who walk in their uprightness.")
(Isaiah 57: 1-2)

Premium Member Just Be What I Am

My life has been hard at times
struggling to speak since pre-school
stressful situations got you down
working life also felt excessively cruel

Took on therapy at various times
but stammer never improved very much
progress was short-lived never to stay
but always felt I needed a special touch

Even went to spiritual healing meetings
but they proved a waste of time
hypnosis helped in my mid-twenties
but took it only so far failing to rhyme

In conclusion, I learned one key thing
God made me to be what I've become
accept myself speaking as I do
learn to do that, beat my own drum

My healing is in letting me go
believing to just be what I am
remind myself to be kind to me
content yourself this I truly know
What does healing and letting go look like and feel like for you?

(I've written this as a poetic expression of solutions on healing and letting go of a struggle or struggles many of us may have.)

The Beginning

The Beginning
By Joji Varghese Kuncheria

Four decades ago my sojourn started,
In my mid - twenties, as to be precise,
A journey of a lifetime so joyous,
By a lad daring, bold and determined,
To perceive, explore and conquer the world,
From my land of coconuts and spices,
To the horn of Africa full of bliss,
Circumspectly moving spellbound and stunned.

So it all began in warm Nazareth,
In a province of Abyssinia,
Arriving on Christmas, the twenty fifth,
An hour by bus from Addis Ababa,
On a beautiful day of the Sabbath,
Journeying through the fields of Injera.

Embrace You

Early teens, mid-twenties
Who are you?
You thought you knew.
Finding yourself, and who you like
Noticing your different
And not alike.
You like girls
You like boys
The confusion, annoys.
With teared up emotions
Rippling your heart,
You can’t figure out
Where to start.

Confirming your gay
Is okay.
Embrace who you are
Everyday.
People will love you
People will care,
The ones that don’t
Will just stare.

Be proud of you
Hold your head up high,
As far as it will go,
Reach for the sky.
Love, who you love,
and be yourself
don’t be scared
to be oneself.

Believe, in who you are,
My thoughts are with you
From afar.

Premium Member Poor Man Beggar Man

She tinkers change someone left on the table
waiting for brunch at the Bluebonnet Bistro,
a hole in the wall with thick on the windows.

Lost deep to thought, this rock ‘n roll liberal
in her mid-twenties and sage satin stole,
pockets a penny that weighs down the satchel

strapped to her shoulder and swung under table,
asway just above cherry red laced stilettos.
From a corner booth table, a sitting man stares

an impertinent stare at her pendulum satchel
and long dangled legs that sway to a torso
wrapped tight in proof of a Wolf Parade show

back in twenty fourteen - unable to go
back down below where he yearns to obey
all known from each of each one of her toes.

A poem about the diminishing return of memories as they're reduced and bid bare by time using an abbreviated variation of the sestina form.

Premium Member The Frozen Tongue

My life started with adoption
then realising had stammer as well
struggle through school glad to leave
at fifteen still struggling to tell

First job was electrician so spark
but colour blindness put that off rail
then worked as storeman rest of career
in various places never going stale

Got married to Jean in mid twenties
but she passed away in less than year
that night I fell on God's merciful grace
received Christ who became so dear

Then nine years later met Christine
got wed after nine months courtship
now last year celebrated silver wed
a blessed marriage such sweet fellowship

But the frozen tongue has remained
has gone up and down many a hill
it's likened to a iceberg at sea
people only see the tip as you will

Like the iceberg real trouble down below
all the damaged emotions lies at foot
getting over them still all frozen
needs real heat to melt way at root

So persevere on to loosen tongue
some progress is at winter season
writing poetry brings real calm
summers pushing ice onto easing

Premium Member Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Who am I a question often I ask
not wanted but adopted when born
then have had stammer all my days
making it struggle to sound my horn

In mid twenties met with God
receiving His merciful love so divine
found great desire for His truth
so transforming effect be all mine

Learn that God has personal purpose
set out for my life alone
having put His son on Calvary's cross
dying for me my sins to atone

Now retired and able to write
enjoy God's peace not be afraid
God's creation perfected by His hand
fearfully and wonderfully made

Celebrating silver wedding anniversary
this month such a blessed time
life's memories encapture happiness
so fully entwined with advantageous rhyme

( written this year ago my silver anniveresary was a year ago at this time)

Smile Again

I want to be up and happy and feeling my best.
But I don't get it, I wake up and feel depressed.
I have nothing to be in a bad mood about.
But I just want to sit here and not go out.

I am missing so many good times, it isn't fair.
All my body and mind say is I don't care.
In my mid-twenties and already want to cash in?
I want this life, I want it to come out and begin.

Maybe there is a chemical imbalance in my brain.
Trapped inside and its sunny, but in here only rain.
Yeah I can go to the doctor and he can give me some pills,
but the effects are weight gain, moodiness, and some people it kills.

I just want to be able to smile again.
Or at least know I can and when.
Its so hard to tell people nothing, but everything is wrong.
And everyday gets harder and it takes so long,

I just want to smile once more,
maybe walk on the ocean shore.
Just make it through today and survive.
Just be happy that I am alive.

Dissy Devil

Dissociated, alone in the crowd
Always the wallflower
Often ignored, for crying out loud
Quite different from the others..

Dispirited, a constant failure
No luck in trying hard
A pathetic born loser
No reward but always scarred..

Dysfunctional, never in tune
A lot of potential but no improvement
Trying to be optimistic but always doomed
Wanting to do so much but couldn’t..

Dismember, anyone in sight
When in this attack mode!
Sometimes a jaded frame of mind
Just can’t help being paranoid..

Disaster, on my part
When everyone else calls it crisis
Does it really have to be this hard,
When in your mid-twenties?

This must be my plight
So I have come to notice
‘been this long, no end in sight
Is there no cure for this disease?
